Well I think the benefits Unocal is going to reap are bigger than the cost of the war actually. I'm not completely sure of the figures but the war in Afghanistan has cost like $500 million to the US govt, while Unocal is going to make several billions. Plus, the cost of the war is paid by the American people, not by Unocal... Also, the American government certainly thought that the war would be quick and cheap and didn't predict that the Taliban would oppose so much resistance.
But anyway, the cost is not the important thing, the point is to control the flow of oil. It is *control* of the world ressource that gives geopolitical power. The US wants to strengthen its global hegemony, and the only two countries that can still oppose a meaningful resistance are Russia and China. So if the US controls the oil supplies to India, China and the other boomong markets of the Far East, then it's a really powerful tool for blackmail if China ever nasty.

If the US leaves Afg., then it's China or Russia who will take control of that oil and the booming Far Eastern market and then it's the end of US global hegemony, which is not an option for the US.

Well I think the benefits Unocal is going to reap are bigger than the cost of the war actually. I'm not completely sure of the figures but the war in Afghanistan has cost like $500 million to the US govt, while Unocal is going to make several billions. Plus, the cost of the war is paid by the American people, not by Unocal... Also, the American government certainly thought that the war would be quick and cheap and didn't predict that the Taliban would oppose so much resistance.

The US wants to strengthen its global hegemony, and the only two countries that can still oppose a meaningful resistance are Russia and China. So if the US controls the oil supplies to India, China and the other boomong markets of the Far East, then it's a really powerful tool for blackmail if China ever nasty.

He's not shy about his one world government, N.W.O. plans.
Research what he was doing in Afganhistan in 79, Arming and training "the Base" (Al CIAda) of the mujihadeen and provoking the Soviet invasion. He's proud of it!

Maybe it did, maybe not. It's really tough to say. Hard decisions like that need to be made, but criticizing is easy. However, I will say that the decision to allow the Soviet Union to collapse was a huge mistake. The collapse of that power block has been an absolute disaster - unless you think Putin has been better for US interests than Gorbachev, that is.
So thanks, Ronald Ray-Gun - you bankrupted the "Evil Empire," and now we have another wannabe Stalin to deal with. Bang-up job, really.

z8it, I don't think arming the organizing the Jihadists was a bad idea. In the 'Chessboard' Zbig points out that as the average American isn't very enthusiastic at the idea of imperial conquest of the world, the US govt will need some 'global threat' to frighten the Americans into accepting the US imperial designs.

On 9/11 these guys that America used to arm provided the perfect pretext for an endless 'war on terror' against every Middle Eastern or Central Asian country that disagrees with the US, so it's really good in fact.
Sorry if I sound like a consiracy theorist but actually there's credible evidence that the US govt failed to prevent 9/11 not because of incompetence but on purpose, and that the old CIA-ISI-Saudi Arabia-Al Qaeda-Bin Laden family-Bush family network is still alive and well.

If you like reading abt this, I recommend this book: 'The War on Freedom' by Nafeez Ahmed. It's a very sober, scholarly and well researched work connecting US policy and interests in Afghanistan from 1979 to the 2001 invasion, US ties to Al Qaeda & co and the possible indirect complicity in 9/11. It's quite convincing and frankly disturbing.

It is amazing that despite these videos, there are people out there that refuse to believe that USA and Al-Queda were allies in the 1980s. Case in point: Skye820. This "woman" on youtube actually thinks that Reagan and AL-Queda had nothing to do with each other and were actually enemies. Do a search on youtube and find her name and see of her foolish rantings. One last thing: Osama bin Laden probably wouldn't have been caught dead in a Pakistani military uniform.
And even if he would (the Taliban didn't wear uniforms), he'd be much taller than in the picture. The FBI puts his height between 6'4 and 6'6.
For comparison, Jimmy Carter is 5'9 and Zbigiew is not much taller. Look at Dr. Brzezinski's Wikipedia article for that, too.
Therefore, this is either malicious libel against him, or it is a mistake made by a person who doesn't check his sources.

First thing: The Taliban were not responsible for 9/11, Al Qaeda was. And as far as foreign policy measures against the "evil Communist empire" went, this was relatively minor compared with the disaster that was Southeast Asia.
And second: until somebody corroborates that the Pakistani officer (from his Wikipedia page) is indeed the Saudi Arabian Osama bin Laden, then I'll just assume that the maker of this video snatched this picture off of Wikipedia and lied about it to defame Dr. Brzezinski.

Not one decent soul with £$£$£$£ has funded him to pen his extraordianry life. I think he would feel relieved, his intentions are not for himself but to save others
