  • woow sound turbine good :)

  • what is the sound (after the jake brake sound) like a whistle??

  • @infernobass Its the Turbo winding down. Thanx for watching.

  • I drove a Freightliner with a C-12....not a bad little engine for power but they had a nasty habit of breaking tips off injectors and smashing pistons.

  • How much hp have?

  • It has two alternators doesn't it? And a huge A.C. compressor.

  • i love that engine. and it sounds f**king lovely.

  • like they say if you aint a cat then u must be a DOG

  • Love that diesel sound, your is georgeous

    two thumbs up matey

  • that engine has the coolest sound i have ever heard!

  • straight pipe that bitch!

  • Hmmm... that's a strange place for the cooling fan. How does it pull any air over the radiator? It's kinda funny how the engine is only 1/3 as wide as the bus too.

  • is it an inline six or four? and whats the literage if you know

  • @zaku14 It's an inline 6

  • Why does it make that noise???

  • @VIRAJ818 Not really a short answer. Have a look on Wiki for "Exhaust brake", "jake brake" etc for a better idea.

  • @VIRAJ818 It's running.

  • Actually cat bought out western star and are making their engine just got their trucks and are renaming westren star, cat. They are starting out with day cab and commercial trucks like dump and garbage trucks and eventually getting in to highway trucks. This is all from a person who works for cat and just recentally went to a company meeting discussing the future products.

  • It is actually a Perkins diesel engine with a CAT stamp.

  • @FUCKINROCKIT because they dont, the only thing cat has cummins in is the o&k shovels when they first bought them out, and the smaller equipment like 303 excavators, but they are perkins, trust me i work for caterpillar

  • Turbo doesnt sound good... it needs blow off valve.

  • I believe this is a C13 ACERT, right????

  • C13 is the biggest pile of shit cat ever made...well there was the 3208.. but still I had a c13 and It was an embarassement

  • @1outofservice the 3176 was a turd as well

  • Love Caterpillar engines!! the ultimate diesel engines.

  • i just rode in a bus like this the other day, does cummins and detroit make motors for this kind of operation

  • @xxbal1inxx ...yup as of this year cat quit making over the road engines for busses and trucks

  • my computer is filled with videos of these huge diesel engines at idle. there is something i cant explain, it is something that feels really awesome when i listen to them. i´m a car enthusiast, but there is something about these engines that calms me and makes me forget all my problems...i just close my eyes and enjoy there sound...imagining all the parts moving in a delicate sync, creating a marvelous vallet that ends up in PURE RAW POWER!!!

    cheers to all piston heads!!

  • This maybe a dumb question, but are some buses as powerful as semi trucks???

  • @kbnastyman, Not a dumb question. And yes some buses are as powerful. Deoends what engine they got. -BOGAR!

  • @j45007 ??? bogar

  • @kbnastyman To give you an idea... I'm from the UK but I suppose it's the same over there too. I drive a 15 meter tri axle coach with a 12 speed volvo ishift gearbox and 460hp straight 6 volvo 12lt engine. The truck I used to drive was an 11lt straight 6 450hp engine with the same 12 speed volvo box. There you go, a coach that will never weigh more than 57000LB with a more powerful engine than the truck that can legally haul 97000LB. Go figure lol

  • @Steebod wow thats cool stuff

  • @kbnastyman yes some bus uses the same engine of the semi truck depend to the brands!

  • @kbnastyman all depends what engine is in it

  • Love that cat

  • I used to work for a company that exclusively ran VanHools, but our 2145s were all Cummins M11 powered. We had a couple of older 945s, and an 840, all of which were L10 powered. I would have given anything to have Cat powered buses! The best diesel engines on the road!

  • gayy

  • what is the noise after the engine revs are at idle atfer being cut quickly br the jake brake?? about 34-36 seconds??

  • special staff lift the exhaust valve and that is engine brake.usually this walve is close.

  • only a 2008 and already a new engine? how many miles did you get out of the old one? don't they easily go to a million miles

  • WHICH MOTOR IS THAT

  • @jerseymade42, Its a "Caterpillar Diesel". Thanks alot for watching and commenting, -BOGAR!

  • is tht the 425 or smaller

  • @j45007 C13 right? I rebuilt a C15 at school. nice engines.

  • @fenix144 nice man, were rebuilding this very C13 Acert at school right now so much fun and so much to learn

  • My comment is for the racist (randomhero1172)

  • correct me if im wrong but it opens up the exhaust valve?

  • yes, with the exhaust valve open there is no compression to push the cylinder back down. Therefore the engine slows very quickly creating negative torque on the transmission and driveline.

  • You seem to be mistaken on the exhaust brakes.

The exhaust valve actually remains closed longer than normal to increase back pressure, thus slowing the motor. That is why you hear the exhaust snapping. It is the sudden release of highly compressed exhaust..

  • you are the one mistaken sir. please consult wiki or your local service station if my comment wasn't enough information to inform you of the workings of a Jacob's (compression RELIEF) brake.

  • Exhaust brakes and compression brakes are different. Exhaust brakes are behind the turbo and limit the flow of exhaust. Compression brakes are under the valve covers and they open the exhaust valves after tdc so the compressed air doesnt force the piston back down.

  • Indeed you are correct. I was describing the compression brake. My reply was to knappydanny who I felt had not explained it completely.

  • its a engine brakes

  • can someone tell me exactly what exactly a jake brake is?

  • a jake brake is an engine brake that is typically used on diesel engines (im not sure if it is ever used on gasoline engines which i sincerely doubt) stoppin alot of weight takes a hell of a toll on your brakes so this system uses engine braking whenever the accelerator is released.

  • ok i know i sound like a dumbass but what is a jake brake?

  • @Wattzfresh

Typical Nigger .... it's to bad YOU PEOPLE cant learn to communicate properly. What your wrote is barely legible. Sorry to turn it into a racial thing. Great bus! Love those cat c13's. do they still make em?

  • Yeah they still make them (cat engines), ur momz still got her job taking out the garbage and polishing the CEO's KNOB right??? if yes then CAT is still in business!!!

  • Are you sure they make those engines still you fucking idiot? I was almost positive that Cat got out of the on highway business which would mean ceased production of the c13 engine. Your comment was totally irrelevant and you sound like a fucking idiot. I didnt ask if CAT was still in business. "polishing the CEO's knob" > ?? wtf are you even talking about. You are one stupid fuck

  • they still produce the c13 engine, but it is used for plant machinery not trucks. also caterpillar has not pulled out of the on highway businesss, they have just ceased selling engines to on highway truck manufacturers, but caterpillar are bringing out there own FULL cat on highway truck that is cat made and badged. so it should be read for retail in a few months

  • that guy is an idiot caterpillar is still in the c13 c15 on road engine business for sure, i work for them

  • What proof do you have? Yes you work on them they are still in use but not manufactured after 2010 for onhighway engines, only OFF highway.

  • the 2010 epa rule are so tight these day that CAT can't make engine for on highway use, the only guys left are CUMMINS and DETROIT, they are using urea to turn exaust fumes into h2o and nitrogen and navistar that used in cylinder technology.

  • @emile93 because CAT is lazy, can't open up some books and start doing some really good engines, good MPG and nature friendly, rednecks, what can you say more

  • @bykashka75 do you know how difficult it is to make an ecofriendly diesel that lasts a long time and has good power? thats why cat quit making truck engines, because they didnt want to keep making unreliable engines, they would rather quit first rather than keep up with these stupid emission laws, i dont see emission controls cracking down on jets and space shuttles, with are way worse for the invironment

  • @stingraystud kidding me, detroit diesel was doing this for , what, almost half a century. they did a good power for the job and good MPG. i agree, emissions are suck big time

  • @Wattzfresh

    Ummm.. what?

  • Please stay in school and try to learn a little english ya dumb fucking spook.

  • Okay.A jake brake is a device on a engine(diesel)

that uses the exhaust stroke of a cylinder to actuate the exhaust valve on another cylinder before the compression stroke, therefore releasing the intake air before it combusted.

    NOW IN ENGLISH

A jakebrake is that loud noise you here when the bus is slowing down(or use the brakes while reving up)

It's purpose is to slow the bus down at high speeds without beating the crap out of your brake shoes or caliper pads.

    PS, your not a dumbass

  • its kinda like an exhaust break, it breaks the engine and does not use the actual brakes

  • Hi there I like the Dual alternators of this Caterpillar C-13 engine. Looks great do you know what the kit number is thanks.

  • The Jake and the Turbo are awesome!!! imagine this thing on the road...a nice hill downshifting...

  • imagine what it sounds like with straight pipes!

  • oh HELL YEAH!!

  • could you get some more videos of the bus using the jake brakes? like going downhill?

  • you should psot a video of the bus driving and jake braking at the same time. the jakes must sound better when the bus is actually moving!

  • it's a shame that this is the last year for CAT on highway engines.

    R.I.P. CAT

  • One CAT engine will be going on for a while. The new MAXXFORCE15 from International will be basically a CAT C15. CAT will manufacture everything from the oil pan to the head. Fuel/air delivery and all electronics will be International. Essentially CAT will make the 'longblock', International will supply everything else.

  • it's purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring

  • v=KlwEuF9jKQs

  • Awsome! I love the Jake Brake sound on this bus!

  • nice bus clean and new

  • i think that sounds suspiciously like a turbo surging.... not good at all.. nice vid though :)

  • not as good as a CUMMINS

  • cummins = boat anchor

  • Congrats on 43,800 views!!!

    Its a great video Buddy.

  • Gotta love the kitty cat engine they clatter a bit much but are some powerful engines, you gotta give us one on the move, would love to hear that going down a hill jaking it all the way down

  • nice, didnt know you had vanhools in the us

  • Yeah we do, and they cost alot less money then the MCIs and prevost. Thyanks for viewing. Now i got to go pick up some passengers, and im in aN MCi as we speak, im not home right now. Talk to you soon, -BOGAR!

  • used to get a volvo b10 with a vanhool body to school, was a very nice coach

  • We had Van Hools here in the US for sometime now. I remeber when I first start noticing Van Hool buses back in 1993. I saw a T-840/T-940, and when It pulled off, that it Cummings engine sound great. I would who Van Hool, because MCI ruled the roads back then. If I could chareter three buses at one time, and I could pick what model of buses I could use, I have J4500, T-2145 and a H3-45. I love the tall 50000+lb coaches!

  • jakes sound like a devil in the ICU trying to breathe...

13/10 . gotta get us a vid of that thing on road.

  • then the sound of the turbo phasing down is the devil dying

  • I drive a C13/Allison combo at 430 HP, good power, but no personality. You can't hear the turbo, you can't hear the jakes they are so quiet, its music to my ears after getting a bus with a Series 60 just hearing that turbo you take it for granted. Cummin's are the same way.

  • Gotta love the Kitty Cat motors. Who i work for has mostly Cats in the trucks.

  • exelent!

  • sounds crap!

  • sick. nice

    vid

  • Once, again, my subwoffer went crazy when I turned up the bass.

  • It sounds fucking awesome

  • I KNOW!!

  • and down as land to be working engine cat, that cat is

  • nahhh!

  • love the yellow engine

  • What's the squeaking/groaning noise right after the jake brakes cut off?

  • the sound of the turbo phasing down.

  • sounds like a bus-fart to me

  • By the looks of this bus, it looks like a VanHool T2145 with a Cat C-13 with either an Allison 6 Speed Auto or the ZF ASTronic 12 speed auto (I think).

  • What is the horsepower rating in this application? I know it's a 12-liter, same as the MB4000.

  • Saludos J45007,,Suena perron el freno de motor! ,que trasmision trae este autobus es automatica?

  • Saludos a ti tambien, gracias.

  • why do u always get new busses!

    listen to that turbo baby!

what company do u work for?

  • I love this video!

  • ****COME check-out MY main CHANNEL page!!!!

  • cool what happend to the old engine?

  • There never was an "old Engine". The title says "new", because the bus is a new bus....2008. Thanks for viewing,-BOGAR!

  • oh i thought it was a new engine in the but lol so you put that engine in or the bus company put it in?

  • That engine came in the bus from factory. Come view or comment anytime! -BOGAR!

  • Well the loud jakes are used to wake up the old folks-passengers when the bus arrives at the casino

  • Thats a really funny comment "BuckToothPhooey", i spilled my Beer when i read it, cuz i was laughing so much! And thanks for subscribing, -BOGAR!

  • I love this video!! Thanks for making it!!

  • I really didn't know that coach buses had jake brakes, and I learned something today!

  • what is that sound when the jake stops, kinda sounds like a wastegate

  • What is this strange sound when it revs down ?

  • thats the jake break i think

  • On the 2006 C2045's with the ZF, I can NOT hear the jake from the inside at all like a Detroit, I want to hear it damnit!

  • Does it have the cat or the M-11. I used to drive the c2045's when i drove for sonoma county airport express, i would do 1500 miles a week on those buses. And we also had MCI D-4500's and those i really like those are work horses.

  • The C-13. I've driven the Cummin's ISM and in tractor trailer with the N-14/Celect a bigger engine than the ISM. The Cummin's ISM you can hear the jake, at least on the older ones, not sure about the newer ones but every one is going to the silent jakes, boring.

  • Oh yeah i just realized you said it was a 2006,by then they were dropping cats in them. And yeah i hate the silent jakes, we have silent and the awesome big sounding ones.

  • I believe that Van Hools with ZF come with out Jakes unlike the MCI and Prevost with ZF. Van Hools ZF has better gears due to it haveing a 12 speeds vs MCI and Prevost 10 speed ZF, but they just do not have a jake brake on them.

Too bad, I would love to hear jakes on a TD-925 double decker!

  • ******Check out the videos above!!

  • I got relatives back home in IL who work in PEORIA. they are union-mandated to wear earplugs. wonder why? :-)

  • Yup that sounds like a true Cat!!! :)

  • beautiful vehicle!!!

  • nice vid.

  • omg that jake brake sounds goood

  • Hey, thanks for viewing! Fell free to Comment-rate and subscribe! That would be AWESOME!!!!!!!!

  • More car videos soon to come!

  • I mean Detroit Diesel 15 Engine?

  • that thing has a big ass turbo!!

  • If New Jersey Transit Cancelled 400 Buses, then they should have Switched with Detroit MBE 900 DDEC or the Detroit Series 60 or the Cummins ISM on the NABI Bus.

  • Series 60 is much better, the new Detroit Diesel DD15 is far more superior than the series 60, from testimonails of being driven much more power.

  • What does Detroit Diesl 15 do?

  • Another good video "j4' this is one of my favorites!

  • how many miles?

  • It has about 45,000 miles on it.

  • R.I.P. CAT Highway engines.

  • Caterpillar is no longer making engines for highway use. They will stop production in 2009.

NJ Transit just canceled an order for 400 bus engines.

  • EGR VS ACCERT.

    EGR WINS.

  • Cat will put their logo on the Navistar truck and engine. The trucks will continue to use the

Navistar MaxxForce engine which is build MAN.

  • 2010 actualy and teaming with international

  • what iam not to sure about that now i heard there comeing out with a better motor in 2009 for highway use more power and better fuel miles

  • that would be great! i relly like the cat engines but i like the detroits alot too. hey, thanks for viewing. -BOGAR!

  • That bus is sick. As if it has a cat engine it it :p

    whata beast.

  • Gosh. Even the new Caterpillar engines have the "Clatterpillar" rattle!

  • A double alternator?

  • I didn't know tour buses had jake brakes, I thought they were only on semi trucks.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Well not all have jake brakes, but most of the bigger ones do. Thay actullay can have different types of Retarders aswell.

  • well this thing is big and they use them to reduce wear and tear on brakes

  • Yes you are 100% correct, "2008F350powerstroke" they do reduce wear and they really help slow the bus easier and prevent burning the brakes while going down hill, if used correctly. Thanks for commenting and viewing, comment, rate, subscribe or view anytime. -BOGAR!

  • yeah you use them too much they start to scorch the bores

  • vanhool makes some beautiful buses
