"Wholemeal toast and a cup of lapsang souchong" talk about a lyrical opening. When you grab someone in the beginning of a song with words you really never expect to hear in a song, but that work like that... great hook. Also, "nor the ghost of the one she had waiting in her bed" - you're something else. And I have a special affinity for artists who can hold my attention AND make me feel happy. I don't really listen to a lot of "happy" music. Your lyrics are sometimes haunting, but I always smile
Ruby, if I had to pick a song to introduce you... I don't know what the big Bookstores are there, but here "Borders" pretty much saved my life in high school / college. It was the only place I could really go to learn about new music that wasn't just Top 40 on the radio. Anyway, they'd highlight new albums and in those small blurbs about the artist, they'd say "check out track number..." - this would be the track I would tell people to check out...
Damn...so good. Keep replaying. Nice work tapping the body and playing at the same time. You're a lyric generating machine...so many great lines...don't know how you do it. Love the way you sing the lines "nor the ghost of the one she had" and "One that might let another in".
oh, ruby how i love your music. and if he's not yours when the poles reverse in 2012 or the world doesn't end then maybe there's some comfort in knowing that he's yours in another universe, that is if we are indeed living in a multiverse. everything that is possible happens in one way or another. i'm such a nerd i know.
Really great song Ruby! I love songs that have a story to them, and that's such a great link up. It doesn't sound like it needs much finishing either - it's perfect just as it is!
I like the way you got an universial disaster hooked up with a social inconvenience... no disrespect towards broken love though....kinda universial too, I guess. Sounds good!
Hi Ruby, I am very pleased now. A great new song from you is always a day maker for me :o) I need to learn how to beat time on my guitar top and still play the chords like you do here. It is a great effect. Ok I need to dance and tap code with my feet now :o) See ya later. -Ron
This is amazing! I can't tell you how happy I was to see you post something - I've missed you. Perfect lyrics, perfect melody, perfect voice. Thanks :) xx
Hi Ruby, it was a very good idea to upload your song. No matter if you think it is not finished. It is a very good song and I am glad that I could listen to it now. Your are a talented songwriter and I appreciate your work very much.
I immediatly liked the sound, nextly I liked your singing. I had to listen 2 times to catch all the lyrics. I was swaying by the end, one lighter flame way up for this one.
"She doesn't want a life unshared nor the ghost of the one she had waiting in her bed" That is the line that got to me. I also like what you say about working on "thinner skin" Love the melody and the guitar tapping and your intimate vocal. And your "rough songs" are so much better than most people's "finished" songs! :) I loved this, Ruby!! faved playlisted Robby PS..I see below that Michael has become a sort of agent for you, keeping track of your video honors!
I think 2012 will be an interesting time. Ancient mayan calender ends. Some say that the earths resinate frequency will reach a point that enables us to experience higher spiritual understanding. If this is true i think it will be good overall but we will also have to face what we have become. Best wishes to you
this was a pleasure to listen to and i really like the guitar style on this one, nice touch. very good lyrics and performance. five stars of course, chuck.
Gran canción. Apuesto a que un cello en el estribillo con notas graves quedaría sensacional. O incluso una flauta travesera. Aquí en España te dirían que es una canción de trovador al 100%. Enhorabuena.
I read on the web... If you listen to Hopi Indian Legends at one time the poles flipped and all hell broke lose, (not the Polish nation I hasten to add the Hopi did not know Poland existed) Ocean waves as tall as mountains came crashing over the land, mountains plunged into the sea and the entire earth spun around aimlessly, froze over and even flipped over twice.
If the poles flip the earth will go into a speed wobble... horrible when it happens to you on a bike... catastrophic in a Tsunami
"Wholemeal toast and a cup of lapsang souchong" - what a wonderful line to start the song on. It's a sad song, but, to me, if you look at this line on it's own I feel a sense of bliss. Gee, I must love wholemeal bread, haha.
But seriously, Ruby. Great song, and an awesome theme, too.
What a !!!!!!! beautiful !!!!!!! voice.

Love that falcetto.
I read the intro before starting the vid and was taken aback at the general peppiness of the guitar. Was expecting something darker, moodier.
The singing melody on the 3rd and 4th lines of the first stanza was pure Ruby. Your signature style
