dude you don't suck and im not trollin here but one question a gibson sg don't really seem like a goon guitar for a guitar battle but thats just my thoughts but anyways rock on dude
@MrSpeckid how come you think so? I'd say they're one of the electric body styles that set the basis for all other models. The SG has ranged in use from country to even rap music. It surprises me that you'd see it as a guitar not suitable for a guitar battle.
This was pretty fun to watch, I think you both won because you boys obviously have different styles of guitar playing, you can't really compare those styles. I'm a guitarist too and I play lots of styles. But I take my hat off to the both of you, you both did great! :)
I think you were much better than your pal. All of his solos just sounded like a bunch of random notes barfed out into one "sequence". I definitely think you're the better player. And awesome SG.
i cant really do that i would be the one chugga chugga riffing on a dropped tuned guitar most likely i would playing drop A on it lol but ya thats is good
Really , fast doesnt mean good. Obviously thats why the audience was thinking otherwise. You hit the notes better than the other guy. The world today doesnt really appreciate the guitar players as much and the diff genres they play. Thats why you just have to open your eyes and look at the world and no matter what you play , inspire yourself.
Like i got to say "for the love of god" by steve vai really opened my eyes.
@DualWieldingBlades As I've said before in many other replies, I'd have enjoyed that. But this was an auditorium full of high school students (during the last period of the day) who really couldn't care less about the performers, unless they're dancing or rapping. Really isn't the ideal crowd to play "funky riffs" or the like to. Sadly, I personally felt I had to compensate and play what would at least entertain the majority. Though I can't speak for my friend Aaron (other guy).
@Matthijs3476 I agree. But you can't really expect a bunch of high school kids to know anything about what makes music good. Especially in these times where rap is considered music. The only thing they respond to is fast, so that's really what we had to resort to playing if anyone was going to pay attention. Trust me, I'd much rather play slow bluesy licks. This just wasn't the audience that would understand or appreciate that.
@hvrock13 check my vids out sometime search gage blevins.... one of my ex lead players could do this stuff ten times better, but when it came to blues some reason he just couldn't... it takes the feeling, you have it. loud distorted and fast dont mean good. you were awesome though.
@slashu I enjoy the occasional shredder like your ex-lead guitar guy.. But I'd get tired of that fast. I can only stand to listen to perfected technique for so long. It starts to feel like I'm listening to a Guitar Pro MIDI track. Its so robotic, and doesn't have human error or feeling/emotion to it. That seems to be the trade-off so many guitarists make. It's why I prefer to be the lead guy with feeling (and mistakes) rather than give it up for perfect accuracy. By the way, thanks!
@Matthijs3476 You're right saying fast doesn't mean it's good music. However, a guitar battle is about more about showmanship and crowd pleasing than about the music and expression of it. There's a time and a place for both amazing music and kick-ass speedy riffs like that. And that time and place happened to be there and they played like bawses!
i hate how everyone thinks that tapping is so hard. its not. now go up their and play the solo to stairway to heaven, now thats something to be proud of
@Inc0rupt3ble I didn't want to rip solos off of popular songs in this. But if you want to see me playing the Stairway solo, I have a full-length video of me covering the guitar to the whole song, with solo.
well ya i understand that and i wasnt really pointing that at you, its just that i wish it required more to get the crowd freaking out then just tapping...
i thought you would have won the battle if you hadnt have given up
@MrLA7X haha yeah, my Marshall was a '93 single preamp stage, solid state power section hybrid. They never sound good. Got myself a pure tube late '60s Marshall clone now, that I wired up myself. Sounds much better.. and louder!
@hvrock13 good dude! :D dont say you got owned, you would of been much sicker in something like a line 6 and emg pick ups but thats my opinion but you powned man :D
@MrLA7X I'm more of a tone purist actually. Some people like the sound of those emulation amps and active pickups, but to me they're much too.. heavy metalish. My style and preference is pretty traditional, drawing from blues, 60's and 70's rock genres, and even some folk (acoustic of course) so I like the sounds of those old, simple and proven technologies. I don't need an effects loop, high gain, or the worry of the battery dying in my pickups. I do best with simple things =]
You two are awesome but I think the one on the right is mire legit cause the one on the left started to get desperate and started using awesome songs instead of making your own stuff on the spot
well you guys are both good players; most videos showing a guitar battle with two kids kind of suck but yours...entertaining. I'm gonna have to give it to the other guy, but only barely
@TheLastProject11 Usually, Dragonforce is a last resort.. lol its the easiest and most overrated thing to play man. There were much better things he played earlier on. When it came to Dragonforce though, I was done. I wasn't gonna copy people's music.
Dude imo you win! That dingleberry on the left is a ripoff riff-bandit, no soul, just quick fingers (my little cousin can play playstation with a similar degree of expertise). You actually seemed to improvise and not just blast through diatonic scales at warp speed. Better bends, better control, and you didn't try to play anything outside of your skill level. Plus who cares about tapping anyway, he just played on the fact that the crowd don't understand guitar playing. Good job!
Pretty cool. I give you the victory, just because you don't have a faggy ass guitar, clean tone, and didn't try to show off with gay ass DragonForce. I wouldn't of even bothered to play anything after he played that Through the Fire and the Flames shit. I would've done exactly what you did, shrug, smirk and turn my shit off.
Dude you were good give yourself some props but that was funny that he played the neoclassical part from Crossroads lol I just don't know how he can play a syn custom seriously I would feel like such a tool even I was amazing and honestly that dude didnt even play that much better
@goldenguy12345 Oh yeah, a huge difference. Gibson has better pickups, hardware, wood, build quality, tuners, electronics, and a better hardshell case. And if you get the Standard like mine, you get the nice binding and finish. Usually binding and heritage cherry are higher-end qualities of Gibson guitars. Not only do they make it look nice, but the binding on the neck makes it easier to play since no fret ends can hurt your hand.
@goldenguy12345 i agree with hvrock13, but the epiphone is really fun to play, if ur on a budget and really want an sg, go for the epiphone g-400, i have it and it works for me it just sounds great and and is fun to play, but i feel it is more of a beginners guitar, i've tried an sg standard aand it was miles better by comparison, only splash out on the gibson if u have the cash
@goldenguy12345, the answer is 'no.' There is no difference, it is all in the mind and how much money one wishes to burn. - 'Fact: They are the same, made by the same people in the same company, all the same way...'
@senormadeland You sure you listened to it? because I (on the right) didn't play really any really speedy stuff. I kept it pretty simple and bluesy with a rock feel, which I'd consider a style..
@senormadeland I disagree, as I was the one playing and I can tell you that there was feeling in my playing. Always has been. Its hard not to imitate; everyone does. Nobody is unique anymore, since all styles are just mixtures of different influences. In that sense, you imitate other guitarists just as I do.
@hvrock13 maybe there was feelings...but I can't hear that. Sure you always imitate (unless you're a genius) but in this case, it sounds aggressive and dull. I've been playing the guitar for 17years and to me, those solos are just good to impress newbies or would be hard rockers.
No hard feelings, just my opinion.
Listen to J. Frusciante...he's a good guitar player
Man you guys are like exactly even skill level, but I think you played with a little more emotion when you threw out your riffs so Id say..... by a hair you won!

@senormadeland You sure you listened to it? because I (on the right) didn't play really any really speedy stuff. I kept it pretty simple and bluesy with a rock feel, which I'd consider a style..

@hvrock13 i am sure...there is no style. Just imitation, without feeling.
Sorry but I don't like it (and i've been playing the guitar for 17years)
