@SMGKINGZmw I would recomend something like a ball python or california king snake as a first, the cal king only needs a large bowl of water, and can have it's cage around 80-85 degrees. But i'm sure if your son thinks he's ready, he can have any of the smaller kinds of snakes. Don't go giving him a burmese python though, large snakes like that are recomended to have 15+ yr old owners, as they can get quite big.

@NHULIGUN Not very big, they should grow about a foot a year for the first few years, and it will gradually stop growing lengthwise, and being to grow in girth. If your snake gets too big in size, it may fast for a few months.

Its a good idea not to let your corn snake out on your floor. They dont seem to like being in a wide open areas. On a flat surface they are quite fast. A good place is on your stairs because mine will climb up the stairs or down them, its good exercise for them.

They like all snakes like to hold on to something or push against something so expect the snake to hold onto you quite alot.

It has teeth but not fangs, and it is very, very rare for them to bite. They are super pets, and if you're thinking about getting a snake I would highly recommend a corn snake.

@CoreyDaNutBrain correction the one above isnt a baby lol wasnt paying attention lol always get a baby thats captive bred because they are all pretty easy to tame just do alot of research plus baby snakes arent expensive or as expensive as adults and corns dont cost much so yea but the enclosures will cost alot more than the snake itsself again just do alot of research and i believe if u love it it will love you :)

@CoreyDaNutBrain mine seems to love me then again you really dont know but after handling any snake for awhile they seem to get comfortable or actually seem like they want you to hold them but all in all they make great pets and you will be proud of yours when you get it and if you do get one i suggest getting a baby corn snake like the one above or ball python. milk and kingsnakes are good too but the corn and ball are the most popular because they are so docile and friendly so good luck

Yes it's normal, my snake even manages to get up on the very top of the tank just under the screen cover. The first time he did it I thought I'd lost him somewhere! If you have any questions about corn snakes I suggest you look up Kathy Love. She's written many books on corn snakes and she's been breeding them for many years. You can even call or e-mail her with questions and she'll get back to you, guarenteed. She's awesome.

Beautiful snake, very healthy looking. At that size I'm sure he appreciates the time out of the enclosure and being handled. Whenever my corn wants out she rattles the reptile screen on the tank to get my attention. I never have to reach in for her as she always comes out when the screen comes off. The more they are handled, the more they seem to like it. While not a water snake mine really enjoys a bath and a swim regularly.
