I visited Manassas battlefield just 2 weeks ago. There stands the Stonewall monument, with the general on his horse, overlooking the field where he and his men won eternal fame. I wish that every American came here at least once in his life time to pay them tribute and to remember that these soldiers fought a just case, for a nation's freedom, no less, no more.
2nd Carolina String Band are the best. We saw them at Gettyburg last year. If you ever get a chance go see them live. You won't regret it. Thanks for posting this.
Some people don´t like South, but at least Dixie has something of their very own, Country music, women and hospitality, been to Mississippi and seen that all!
Stonewall is a legend, pure and simple. He encapsulates the tenacity, passion and fighting spirit of Americans. Stonewall was truly a badass!!!!!! 3 Cheers for the South!!!
The big question, "how would the war have gone if he would have lived?" We'll never know, but he is a true hero. Kentucky had brave boys who fought on both sides, but Kentucky never seceded.
Every Confederate state sent at least one regiment into the Union Army, except for South Carolina. Does that mean every Confederate state was really still Union?
I personally do believe that if Stonewall had commanded the 2nd Corps at Gettysburg instead of General Ewell who was incredibly inept at Corps commander. Ewell could not only command at the corps level but he was also horrible when given independent command.Stonewall was the exact opposite. He relished independent command and didn't fight as well when he was a subordinate.
Ewell refrained from taking Culp's because he wasn't directly ordered to. That wouldn't have been a problem for Stonewall.
He refrained from taking Culp's Hill because he was told to take it "if practicable," and in his judgment it was not. He would likely not have been able to hold it with the few men he had left, so it would have been a big loss of life for nothing. Jackson may have tried to take it, but he probably wouldn't have been able to hold it either. II Corps was about fought out by that point.
@eringobragh915 I do believe that Ewell's Corps was tired and short of men. But the Federals were in high- long retreat all across the line when it broke the first day. Even Gen. Trimble said that a mere brigade could have pushed any Federal unit off that hill with the rest of ll and Xl Corps retreating in confusion.
The Yankees were literally whipped and running for the hills.
@StonewallJackson26 Pushed them off is one thing. Holding the ground is quite another. It likely could not have been held with the men available. General Trimble notwithstanding. (When did he become the final word on anything?)
eringobragh915- I believe it was his favorite hat given to him while he was a teacher at VMI.
It is also that such men of conviction and honor, from both the north and the south, do not exist anymore in this country. At least they do not exist in Washington DC
Kentucky and Missouri had dual governments. In Kentucky, the governor seceded without the legislature and created a Bowling Green rump government. In Missouri there was a standing constitutional convention that declared secession unconstitutional, but the state government seceded anyways. That's where the myth keeps coming from.
I am reading his biography. His enemies really feared him - really feared him. My great great grandfather served with him (AJ Workman) lost a leg at Manassas but lived to be a preacher and family man to almost almost 100.
Yeah...Jackson was a really aggrisive general. He used sometimes 16th century tactics and he won perfect. If Jackson had survived his wound, than the CSA clearly won Gettysburg!
@minilnloesteam, thats what i tell everyone too,@eringobragh915, Jackson wore his old kepi he wore at VMI for the majority of the time he fought in the war, and the slouch hats weren't usually worn by junior officers, and some senior officers such as colonels, mostly generals and fighting men wore slouch hats. the war was so bloody and long mostly because of the secession of virginia that gave csa a stategic position, good soldier and generals (lee, stonwall jackson, stuart, armestead, etc.) i don't understand what virfigian delegates were thinking over 40% of war was fought in virginia, its farms were destroied, its cities where burned, an entire generation of men has been decimated, poverty and so on only a fool agrees to turn his land into a buffer war zone
I have obviously never met the man personally, but stonewall has always been kind of a childhood hero to me,he fought and died for what he believed in.
lil known fact by some... moms in the north would tell there children too go too bed at night or O'l Stonewall will come and get them... Im sure with all my heart Jackson wouldn't go for that. but, you have too admit.. the fear he put in the yanks heart was inpressive!!
oh yeah, he was a kind and gentle man when need be, but when it came too defending his home and ppl. you had a fierce and mighty warrior on your hands.
However, I think it's interesting to note that but for the "War of Northern Agression". Jackson would have most likely lived and died an obscure, eccentric professor at VMI.
BTW, CW vet, A.E. Floyd was addressing my snall hometown high school on Confederate Veteran's Day 1927. He broke down in tears.
CVD (in NC) is held on the anniversary of Jackson's death. A. E. Floyd was in the 18th NC. They (he) fired on Jackson -- that's why he cried!
Jackson distinguished himself with Lee in the Mexican War and at West Point, moving from the bottom of his class to 16th or 17th by graduation time. Virginians were the leaders of the the Confederate cause. Look at all the West Pointers we provided (Stuart, Jackson, Lee, Early) so to say that Virginia "supplied the battlefields" sounds a bit uninformed. Maybe you don't live in the south.
I cannot post a link here, but Google for "stonewall jackson aspergers" and it is the first hit that comes up, on the website for the Society of Clinical Psychiatrists.

His daughter Julia married a man named William Edmund Christian in 1884 and had two kids, a girl named Julia Jackson Christian and a boy named Thomas Jonathan Jackson Christian. She died when she was only 26. I don't know if her kids had descendants.
Julia Jackson married one of my decendents William E. Christian in Richmond, Virginia. The Christian family came to Virginia from the "Isle of Man". I do think that their two children had children. I have the information in my genealogy files. Jackson, lost a child in his first marriage and one in his second marriage. Your right Julia didn't live to be very old either , dying at the age of 26. The book titled "Stonewall" is a great biography on Jackson written by Byron Farwell great book!

Cripple Creek, is a very old folk type song connected to Country Music, not sure just how old it is but has been around for a very long time. There is a lot of the Appalachian type music in this area and it originated mostly from ballads and folk music.
Here's one called Cripple Creek, traditional mountain folk music song played on banjo and guitars. Listen to the sound of old time Bluegrass music of the Southern Appalachian Highlands.
Um, how can you be a first cousin of Jackson's unless you were born within the same generation? Are you that old?
Perhaps one of your ancestors was his first cousin. This would make you his first cousin X-number-of-times-removed (however many generations you are descended from that person).
okey, more correctly im his 1st cousin many times removed, still a first cousin right? anyways i will tell you how many times removed if you realy want to know, but im hesitant to give it out online for safety reasons
The Confederate Flag will always rise in the southern states and none of you can stop that cause we will always be confederate and always be a good old reble! You can kill us, you can kick our ass, but you will never take our southern rights and what we died for!! Hail The C.S.A!!!!
It is by the 2nd South Carolina String Band and they sell CDs through their website. You will have to Google them, because YouTube will not allow me to post a URL. Buy their music; they are awesome!!
Stonewall Jackson, The GREATEST general in the Csa, maybe even more better than Robert E. Lee. I dont believe he lost a battle if I recall. He decieded to take the valley cause he loved it. His dedication to the Csa will not be forgotten.
At all times General "Stonewall" Jackson faced a ruthless murderous invading army that out numbered his force of Heroic Patriots by three to one, but often more.
Yet Jackson was never defeated by those murdering invaders.
Jackson did die during the war, but not by a Yankee hand.
God bless General Jackson, we sure could use your like today!
Grant followed whether he knew it or not some of Napoleon's lessons of war like having as many troops as possible and massing them at one point to make a decisive blow. Vicksburg was wonderfully coordinated and executed with battle on tough terrain and living of the land to feed his army(another practice of Napoleon). But to me I think he the best because of his determination to face an enemy and adversity and to not give up and stay personally confident about his decisions and his army.
He held his arm in the air to let the blood drain into his body because he felt that arm was heavier than the other. He had a reason for everything he did, it just didn't always make sense to others.
)O( True! Jackson DID have unusual habits. but it doent matter, he was a true commander of men. born to lead. i admire that quality in any soldier from any army.
Yep. He sure sounds like an Aspie to me. He had every symptom. Of course back then they didn't say you had a disability, they just called you "eccentric." Just another of many things he overcame, a truly admirable man.
great !!!!

Kentucky is never considered much during the war, yet it was more strageically key than any other State.
Kentucky supplied many officers to the Confederate armies, and eventually seceded.
So from a Native Kentuckian - it doesn't matter who contributes the most, it's that we all contributed all that we could.

im a cousin of Jackson on my mom's side, 1st cousin in fact
jasonwill2 3 years ago 2
Um, how can you be a first cousin of Jackson's unless you were born within the same generation? Are you that old?
Perhaps one of your ancestors was his first cousin. This would make you his first cousin X-number-of-times-removed (however many generations you are descended from that person).
eringobragh915 3 years ago
okey, more correctly im his 1st cousin many times removed, still a first cousin right? anyways i will tell you how many times removed if you realy want to know, but im hesitant to give it out online for safety reasons

The Confederate Flag will always rise in the southern states and none of you can stop that cause we will always be confederate and always be a good old reble! You can kill us, you can kick our ass, but you will never take our southern rights and what we died for!! Hail The C.S.A!!!!

"...you will never take our southern rights and what we died for!!"
We? You didn't fight in the war. Trying to take credit for dying in a war you never even witnessed is pretty retarded.

Where can I find this song anyways?

It is by the 2nd South Carolina String Band and they sell CDs through their website. You will have to Google them, because YouTube will not allow me to post a URL. Buy their music; they are awesome!!

Stonewall Jackson, The GREATEST general in the Csa, maybe even more better than Robert E. Lee. I dont believe he lost a battle if I recall. He decieded to take the valley cause he loved it. His dedication to the Csa will not be forgotten.
SanchezAccount 3 years ago 3
He did lose some battles. Not many though.
eringobragh915 3 years ago
At all times General "Stonewall" Jackson faced a ruthless murderous invading army that out numbered his force of Heroic Patriots by three to one, but often more.
Yet Jackson was never defeated by those murdering invaders.
Jackson did die during the war, but not by a Yankee hand.
God bless General Jackson, we sure could use your like today!

jackson was amazing

Most yankees mistake the south. They should really do research on confederate generals. "stonewall jackson" for example.

U.S. Grant is America's Greatest General
Rock5482000 4 years ago
How?
flattopFX 4 years ago 3
Grant followed whether he knew it or not some of Napoleon's lessons of war like having as many troops as possible and massing them at one point to make a decisive blow. Vicksburg was wonderfully coordinated and executed with battle on tough terrain and living of the land to feed his army(another practice of Napoleon). But to me I think he the best because of his determination to face an enemy and adversity and to not give up and stay personally confident about his decisions and his army.

I suppose that makes sense..............anyway......great Irish tune, and he was a good General
Juliusthebastard 4 years ago 2
Stonewall was a good general. But he was a bit crazy. He used to point his finger at the sky for no reason. And he was shot by his own men
Juliusthebastard 4 years ago
He held his arm in the air to let the blood drain into his body because he felt that arm was heavier than the other. He had a reason for everything he did, it just didn't always make sense to others.
The shooting, of course, was accidental.
eringobragh915 4 years ago
)O( True! Jackson DID have unusual habits. but it doent matter, he was a true commander of men. born to lead. i admire that quality in any soldier from any army.
acerb45666555 4 years ago
It has been suggested that Jackson had a mild form of Autism known as Aspergers Syndrome.
rinehartt 4 years ago
Yep. He sure sounds like an Aspie to me. He had every symptom. Of course back then they didn't say you had a disability, they just called you "eccentric." Just another of many things he overcame, a truly admirable man.

I love your videos of each man individually.
