  • can you give me info on how to construct one ,

  • What kind of efficiency/energy use do you see from your furnace? That is, how many Kilowatt-hours do you churn through to melt say, a pound of iron?

My back-of-the-envelope math (which, admittedly may be entirely wrong) says this should be an extremely efficient setup. On the order of .5-1kW/kg.

  • @JeffreyRodriguez Cast iron takes 4 kwhr to melt 3 kgs.

  • I have a gas cruicible furnace but it wastes gallons of fuel to pre heat for a steel pour. I've been looking at induction furnaces but the $6,000 for one about the size you have is out of the question. Could you make a walkthrough vid of your SMPS and modifcations to handle a coil the size you are employing? Anything at all would be very very helpfull. Thank you.

  • @BrimstoneMerc The furnace is not mine so I cannot help you.

  • Hi,

Very nice! Would you be willing to share details on the construction of this furnace? I assume there is an induction coil somewhere. Is it embedded within the furnace's square block of insulation?

    Thanks!

  • @tzampini Are you an expert on power electronics? an induction furnace is a very difficult project to build. Have a look at my video on youtube " induction heater from scrap electronic parts". This was made from a switch mode power supply I found at the local dump so cost nothing to build.
