@1mom2james I'm not sure by what you mean if it would sound as good...What kind of mixer do you need? What are you looking to do? What kind of amp? Do you mean a PA amp? What are you looking to do?
The Vocalist 2 needs some sort of instrument plugged into it to determine what chord to play. It can't be a recording, usually because the drums or many instruments can throw off it's MusicIQ detection. The Vocalist 4 and newest VL3D allows you to set a key, but that setting doesn't change with the type of chords you play. Come in to our store to learn more and see all the models. Thanks!
I am not much in guitar. Is it also following music background (like karaoke music) chords? as replacement for guitar? I saw it has Line In so I think I can plug my player there.
Hey guys! i was wondering something.. is there a way to use the Vocalist without a guitar??.. Is it able to just modulate and create the harmonies without any instrument?
it needs something to recognize what keys your playing in and switching into during your song, the point of the machine is that the instrument does the work for you, without you having to create any presets and have a vast knowledge of theory
Hey Jonathan... no it will not alter the sound of the guitar. Its simply a thru jack. The Vocalizer just uses the guitar signal to make the harmonies.
yes you always want to run your guitar through the digitech pedal FIRST... then from the "thru" cable coming out of your digitech you can run anything you like :) - Allen
The guitar might have been already tuned, but it is crucial for the guitar to be tuned exactly to concert pitch 440. The harmonies work of that... guitar slightly off = harmonies slightly off. Aloha!
In the video we plug a guitar into the Vocalist, then a cable out to the PA system. For distortion, just take the cable coming out of the Vocalist and plug it into your pedal, or amp or whatever you normally use. This is known as a "Thru" signal.
the main feature of these new "vocalist" units is that it gets its harmony data from the guitar (or other instrument) that is plugged in to it. therefore, the vocalist 2 will not work unless there is an instrument plugged in to tell it what chord to harmonize with.
i believe on the vocalist 4, you can put it in "key mode" where it lets you select a key, and it will try to harmonize the notes in the major scale, but again, these units are meant to have an instrument plugged in.
can I plug 1/4 mic cable in it?

hey
with the vocalist 4 do you need to have a mixing desk or can u go straight into an amp
FuelfortheFireMusic 2 years ago
Can you plug in an effects pedal for effects like distortion etc or does that throw it off?
bkpenta 2 years ago
you would put effects AFTER the vocalist then into your amp:
guitar -> vocalist -> distortion/pedals/effects -> amp

Will this work without using a guitar? Will it work with only a vocalist singing into the unit?

Two questions: 1) I switch often between acoustic guitar and electric. How many guitar line ins?
2) I keep one of my guitars tuned down a half note. If I played a whole song in Eb but the guitar is in tune, no probs right?
Thank you.

sherwoodamp 2 years ago
Yes! It works with Keyboards as well. Look for Allen, (guy in the Demo) he can show you the hook up and has ran the unit through keyboards before.

Yes you can use guitar effects... simply connect the effects after the guitar thru. Aloha!

Nice vid but as with EVERY demo I see of this the vocals and HARMONIES are NOT LOUD ENOUGH!!!!
cast390 3 years ago
We've noticed that when too loud, they can sound 'fake.'
Perhaps for this demo though we should have turned them louder.
