  • That day a legend was born.

  • I just read how nervous he was just before this, you could never tell, he did brilliantly x

  • Hi everyone lol I too have just read this part in his fabulous book, I think Michael is just adorable and admire him even more after reading his book with all his struggles.

  • The best bit is the loud posh laugh when he is talking about forgetting your PIN and asking for half of your food!

  • i like how hardly anyone laughs through this

  • @EllaGxx me too hahha... He's an example

  • Watched this cuz of his autobiography... very goodconsidering how nervous he was! (:

  • you can tell this is one of his first performances because there's not much laughter

  • Haha he raved so much about this performance in his book, I just had to see it for myself!

  • u are sooooo funny mcintyre I can't waite to b old enough to watch u live

  • I took had to view this after finishing chapter 24 of his book before savouring the final chapter!

  • His comedy always makes me laugh. over the years i've watched him you rarely hear the same joke twice. his christmas special put me to tears.

  • Im reading his book and HAD to stop to watch this vid where he got his break, so amazing

  • Michael. you're so real, you relate to life, Don't ever change!!!

  • Now I understand the story...

  • 4:43 the woman laughing:-D

  • the audience is dead i taught he was hilarious.

  • had to watch his big break after finishing his book, he's amazing!

  • his hair is soooooo........less bouncy...

  • Ahhhh i remember the joke he talked about in his book about the pregnancy test!

  • Barry disliked this 66 times

  • @MissBowler1998 Could have been ' it's complicated ' guy...

  • @MissBowler1998 I think it was Barry and 65 people called Aaron...

  • there is one woman like laughing so loud all the time!

  • Michael McIntyre is my oist favourite comedian of all time. XD xXx

  • i thought this was funny but he's done some MUCH better stuff.

  • @strawberrymiss818 True, but Royal Variety was his first major gig. He's bound to improve over time. XD xXx

  • lots of laughs in 8mins, shows a very good comedian when they first start out (trying to break big)

  • haha i just finished reading his book today..it was awesome...its so weird to see this vid after he talked about it :)

  • @missyxxxsorted Lol thats why I watched it too :)

  • He reminds me of Seinfeld.

  • kinda funny in 240p he looks like a chubby seth mcfarlane, or maybe its just me, and maybe its just me who didn't read the book.

  • I'm reading the book in time with the video ;D x

  • +1, read book. Strange thing is, though, I didn't find this too funny. And I like McIntyre's comedy. I respect him immensely for what he went through before success.

But this being the one that sent him over the top seems strange. Cause IMO this wasn't that good and he's been so much better after this.

  • @jeejo255

Agreed! I've just got to the end of that chapter when I thought I couldn't resist a peek a this, after having read the positives about this sketch. . . and I also adore his talent and comedy, but yeah interesting to see that this was the deal-breaker. Great comedian!

  • Just listened to his audiobook, and came here.

  • Book makes this much more meaningful :) can see why Jason orange told him he was funny :)

  • Just finished reading his book and you would not believe he was under such stress before this set. A wonderful comic!

  • @mbaker230271

I know! And the bit about £13.99 pregnancy tests really rings true, when you understand how much debt he was in!

  • Living Legend. Like many of you, the book brought me here too... I think the audience didnt serve him justice at this performance cos he was still unknown but I'm glad he made it after all he's been through. I can't wait to see him at the02 next year :-)

  • Yepp same here, book brought me here.just read the book and I laughed so much i got to add,and yes i just had to watch this after reading it,even though i did see it at the time in 2006 but did not realise that it was his make/break it debut :)

  • @mymysuzie me too! thats why i decided to watch this xxx

  • laugh mooore jeeze

  • Like if your watching in 2011. :3

  • Was his wife pregnant here?

  • @NeverFearLucysHere im pretty sure she was cuz in his book i think she was at this point xx

  • @M1E1G Nice To know;) xx

  • @NeverFearLucysHere No, it was the influence of his first son being born that lead him to get a new manager who got him on this show and his second son was born in 2008.

  • OMG b4 he was even famous

  • I've just finished his book too :) he's been through so much to get to where he is now, and is so super funny, too :') woo Michael McIntyre! :')

  • his account in his book of this is hilarious. i love him.

  • what a awful audience!

  • @sheepdog2c7 Exactly the same, mate! He's an inspiration! Comedians who take the mick out of him and rubbish him don't know how hard he's worked to get into comedy and his dedication and psssion for it! I love you Michael, rightly the funniest comedian in the world atm <3

  • I finished reading his book last night, and it has made me feel a lot different about his comedy, knowing everything he went through, first with his wife, then his baby, and then actually seeing his big break for myself, and knowing exactly how he reacted when he went backstage, it's made me appreciate his great comedy even more! :)

  • @sheepdog2c7 When I finshed reading his book, I felt justtt the same as you. I honestly thought I was alone on this. The Book makes me understand him even more and well.. what you just said.

  • After reading his book, watching this make me love him even more.

  • It is so weird watching this when he's only getting a few laughs when now everyone in the audience laughs their heads off.

  • i love him so much, if i wasn't half his age, id marry him, kthnxbye.

  • Just finished reading his book and had to watch it -3 :)

  • @MsJonas2020 ditto

  • @MsJonas2020 same here! i'll always see him in a different light after reading that

  • shit audience

  • Just finished listening to his audiobook and when he was talking about this i couldn't believe people weren't laughing at him to start with! What's wrong with these people?! Laugh!

  • He's so funny! That audience is so bad. Why aren't they laughing more? He's hilarious! :) xx

  • This means so much more if you read his book.

  • @musicisinsideofme This is why I youtubed it. Just finished the book lastnight

  • @musicisinsideofme It really does. And how nervous he was... he did so well!! I'm watching along willing him to do well. Brilliant book!

  • @thomsocaca

damn it!! i was going to write that!

  • Read his biography, then come straight on here to see what he was on about. He's still hilarious!

  • JUST finished reading his book 5minutes ago and HAD to watch this ... FANTASTIC !!!!!!!

  • lol at that strange laugh at 4:49 :L

  • Comment removed

  • Had to watch this after reading his book; so cute to know what he went through before!

  • I used to HATE it when comedians repeat the same jokes at different gigs but reading his autobiography made me realise the importance of it.. the first book i have read in 7 or 8 years (just finished it) hope he becomes a worldwide phenomenon and makes Britain proud!

  • I'm gonna read his autobiography before watching this x

  • JUST read his autobiography and I had to come watch this clip! It is actually amazing and he deserves all his success <3

  • @93Meercat me too

  • Just finished his autobiography. It was amazing how his life worked out. Seven years for these seven minutes...

  • @MaggieMooable Care to share in short what's so important about this? :)

  • What was with the laugh around 4:50... it freaked me out :S sounded like a Hyena.

  • I also just finished the autobiography, I loved him before, but since reading it, I love him even more and have nothing but respect and admiration for him. I watched this before reading the book, but reading it afterwards and knowing what it took to actually get to this point, you see it in a different light.

  • i just finished his autobiography and i just had to see this

  • i love his fluffy hair!! <3

  • @freefallin313 I read it recently whilst on holiday. It took me approx 24 hrs to read. Absolutely amazing story.

  • The audience is terrible. Especially for the Royal Variety... That's appalling. This man is the only comedian who genuinely makes me laugh.

  • Wow, no sense of humour.

  • Comment removed

  • Was there an audience at all? I was crying with laughter :')

  • Heeeeeelllo Daaarlings!

I also read the book as you may have guessed, and i really feel like he's an old friend who i've known all my life. It's so inspiring to see how determined he was and dedicated to comedy, i'm so glad he's made it and i can't wait until his tour in 2012!!!!

  • After reading his autobiography i had to come and watch this!

  • was the audience under water?

  • Everytime he asks a question, about 6 people answer in a very stern and serious 'yes' or 'no', tits.

  • OMG they r so stuck up

  • He did it for Jason Orange from Take That for sure.

  • I had never really been into comedians until Michael Mcintyre - he just never fails to make me laugh.

  • he looks so young:)

  • After reading his autobiography it is amazing watching this. All the stuff that happened before this event is totally unapparent- he is a charming, charismatic comedy genius. He even made the jokes hilarious without the swearing. I was in stitches- Michael McIntyre is an inspiration and totally deserves to be where he is now. :)

  • LOVE YOU MICHAEL!!!

  • I've finished your autobiography. It was a big big big moment for you, that's why i want to watch this video. Michael, big big big star.

  • lmao at that persons laugh at 4:48 xD

  • middle class b@stard audience... I can't stand to watch them on my 52" HD plasma tv anymore... I... I need some lobster to recover...

  • What a bunch of nasty stiffs in the audience.

  • Tough crowd. This had me screaming with laughter. Not meaning this in an offensive manner but it might have been because they are mostly 'upper class' and wouldn't have related to the jokes as easily. Just a thought.

  • I had to watch this after reading his book!

  • british comedians. can't beat em. pity :D

  • ...and a star is born

  • It's amazing how everyone has done what I've done finished the chapter and went to the iPhone, 35,000 pounds of debt with his first child gives me hope excellent book thought it would of been shit!!!!

  • aww i just finished his "audio book", absolutely brilliant! wish it was longer though, and a lot more detail of after he started becoming successful....such a nice guy and so much determination to keep trying and trying, a lesson for us all to learn in life!

  • such a great book, went straight here to see this clip

  • showbizzness walk hahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

  • O_O why audience whyyyyyyyyyyyyy he was hilarious

  • Wow. Awkward. Bloody rugger-buggers.

  • fucking audience.

  • The audience at the royal variety is always awful. They're all a bunch of stuck up, posh twats with no sense of humour at all.

  • @ShazG09 and you my friend are as common as they come?

  • @TopTap09 I'm from Dagenham sooo...

  • @ShazG09 I do recall in an interview with him he said the richer the audience the more they don't like his jokes and don't laugh. I felt really bad but hey he's successful and many people adore him (like me) :)

  • @TheMentalist28 You don't have a sense of humour if you don't find Michael McIntyre funny :) Best comedian out there :)

  • Seeing this makes me laugh, not only because of his unique comedy, but because you can see his distinctive style developing even within this short sketch. Even that walk which is now his trademark is part of his joke in this :))

  • He is brilliant but the audience could not suck more.

  • it si obviously 1 shoe so u dont steal it and you walk around to see if its comfortable

  • lols one time i saw a man driving in a 12 passenger van on the sidewalk and on his back window it said "how am i driving? call me at ***-***-****" and i just laughed when he mentioned it

  • Does anyone have a Video of his Edinburgh Festival(Before 2006) Peformances? Or Any from Jongleurs? I'd love to see those.

  • This his first time? I think it is his book was good :P

  • I think the audience was being a bit shy because Michael was basically just starting out as a comedian and wasn't as successful than as he is now. You can compare this Royal Variety Performance to a recent one and you can clearly see, the audience is more into him now -- still, though, I found the traffic-warning joke quite a good'un! :)

  • i feel sorry for him :'( the audience are jus bein gay hi! He is a legend =)

  • i love this, after reading the book you can imagine how nervous he was feeling haha, and this was like his 'big break' ahhhh my god i love himmmmm

  • I feel so bad for him the audience sucks Dx

  • I guess I have to read the book....

  • What book ?!

  • @The14xd he wrote an autobiography its amazing 'michael mcintyre life and laughing'

  • Great book, such a funny performance.

  • Great book.

  • I cant believe how shit this audience is, how are they not pissing themselves

  • i really recommend his book 'Life and Laughing' it's brilliant and you can't appreciate how much he was absolutely shitting himself before this show and how much rested on this performance (and all of his other early gigs along with all his other difficulties in trying to make it) unless you read it. he really is amazing!!

  • What a dry audience.

  • @TheBenjaminhorler boring stiffs!! lol

  • Excellent.

"You can lead a horse to water - but you cant make him drink"! haha :D

  • The gig that got home out of debt. READ THE BOOK.

  • the people at the royal variety are really boring, they don't laugh at anything, FUCKING LAUGH

  • Literally JUST finished his book - i bet half of these views ( and comments actually ) are from his readers XD

  • Then told me his pin. I learnt more people pins that week as they couldnt understand they type it in, not tell me it!!!

  • Hahaha, chip and pin! No idea how long it's been now but I remember when it first started I asked an old man if he knew his pin as he had to enter it. He said yes and then t

  • i love how i finished the book and came straight to watch this video and found everyone else has done the same <3

  • nobody at the royal variety laughs!
