These proms are absoloutly brilliant. Keep them coming, let them be a new tradition. John Wilson and the orchestra are FANTASTIC, as are all of the Singers. I look forward to this prom every year now.
When they say "where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain," they mean 24/7, 360 days a years. Believe me, I'm in Oklahoma right now going to college at OU. Here's Oklahoma!
The 'Henry Wood promenade Concerts' were later referred to as 'The Proms' after his death in 1944. The concerts are held at the Royal Albert Hall in London every year from July till about September. Most of the performances are of a classical nature from popular to the obscure. In recent years there has been 'special evenings of film and light orchestral works and from the Musicals. The famous 'Last night of the Proms' is for popular/patriotic music. The shows are shown all over the world.
WOW!!! I don't know anything about PROMS--is this an annual festivali in England? Whateer it is I LOVE IT! The John Wilson orchestra is sensational; Maestro Wilson certainly knows his stuff!! Well done!! Bravo!! :-)
A real star behind a lot of Richard Rodgers music was the orchestrator: Robert Russell Bennett. He was to Broadway what Conrad Salinger was to the MGM musical. Both brilliant musicians.
In my view this is a scant interpretation of how the early pioneers felt about what they found in the state of Oklahoma. Dont sing it if you wont interpret it.
Dear BBC, Please will you upload 'If I loved you' by Julian and Sierra or just put this whole Prom on CD or something. It was lovely to see the repeat on BBC4 recently. I agree wholeheartedly with mrsspanner14. Please think about it BBC?
This is one of the most wonderful Proms I've ever seen - wonderful performances. Julian and Sierra's version of "If I loved you" made me cry. Fantastic :-)
Dear BBC ... Please, please, please upload Julian Ovenden sing the 'Carousel' Soliloquy from this concert. It was beautifully sung and acted so we need to see it again!
@adam28xx There is a low quality version in youtube (remove the space between the w's): w w w.youtube.com/watch?v=m5dPEcIeiGg. Thank goodness the sound quality is very good.

funny, cuz if i remember correctly, the trail of tears led to oklahama, a pretty crappy place that Andrew Jackson used to store the native americans

Like Julian better in this than in his version of Being Alive, he has a self-satisfied schtick which fits curly really well, but not so much Robert

Brilliant ochestration! The way in which this ochestra meticulously delivers on the original scores is breathtaking. Better than the original.
