The college gym here told me they'd hire me right away also if I was certified ISSA. I'm currently in the process. I've already also got job offerings training a girl's hockey team in Canada this summer through a connection I know after mentioning I was becoming ISSA certified. Also, a gym shouldn't have to worry about what you know. You are just supposed to know it. Being educated is part of being certified. Of course you can half-ass it, but it'll just make you a half-assed trainer.
is it hard to become a personal trainer? I've read the health fitness instructor's handbook and damn! (hard stuff) i'm going to take a certification class and i really have no clue how hard it'll be. do you know? thanks!
It depends. There is no governmental regulating body over this industry. There are over 200 companies you can get certified by, and 195 of them basically just send you your cert as long as you pay the 500+ fees.
Your certification is completely worthless when it comes to actually finding a job as a personal trainer. Gyms -=DO NOT=- care what you know. They care how much money you can jerk out of someone. You can be a personal trainer without a cert too.
Your gym is extremely, EXTREMELY, rare.
