@Terf1988 No need to purchase theses games ! I'm french and I don't know if an english website do the same. A french website is listing to all the abandonwares. After they demand the editors if they allow that, the website just allow the game to be downloaded for free. If you want Lands of Lore 1 for free, I just put the link in another post below (not enough place) , with the Lands of Lore II link.

But LoL1 is written french and audio is english, and LoL2 is full french.

What is the best way to battle? i.e. is it best to click the 'attack' button as soon as it becomes unshaded? It's good to jump back and forth, but is there anything you can do to increase your hit rate in fights? I've never been able to figure that out about this game.

God i loved this game. I played this a lot. And my right pointfinger hurt a lot. There were horrible much clicking with the mouse button.

But the graphic, story and atmosphere were fantastic.

Only it made me very sad when the knight changed sides and attacked me.

This was one of my favorite games growing up. I remember being stuck in the draracle's cave for like a year cuz i didn't know to use the stupid hammer haha.

Kieran = Hard Mode.

Ak'Shel is the best pick in the game because of his powerful magics. Both Paulson and Baccatta are pretty good fighters, but neither is really that impressive as a mage.

Conrad is the second best pick and may be slightly easier to play the Ak'Shel because of his high stats and balance.

Michael is for if you don't want to use much magic, which makes things harder. He does hit really hard though, but it's actually not as useful as one'd think.

PS : take a look at the DOSBox.conf to see where DOSBox will put the .AVI file. It's the "capture=path" line. By default, it's in DOSBox's installation directory\capture so it may not be good.

You may have to install the ZMBV codec too to play the videos produced (DOSBox comes with it, and their is a shortcut to install it in the Start menu\DOSBox\video directory if you are using DOSBox on Windows).

You can record with DOSBox own's codec (It will produce .AVI files with ZMBV for video, PCM for audio. It can be directly uploaded to youtube, albeit it's a little big to upload).

Just make Ctrl - Alt - F5 on the keyboard to start / stop recording. It will have an impact on the speed of the emulation, but on modern computers, it may only shows with 3D games (like Quake, or Chasm, Syndicate Wars, ...).

The MIDI might not be recorded, though (it used to be, I think it's a bug of v0.73..)

Actually he does... As far as I know, Kieran has the highest attack & dodge rate (meaning he attacks faster and dodges the most blows from the enemies). Moreover, his stats seem to upgrade much better than any other character, meaning on the long-game he is the most powerful character. I may be wrong though, so some comparisons with Conrad at a level of stats would be handy here. :)

Kikoskia, one question: I understand Ak'shel and Michael are suppose to be the two opposite ends of the spectrum, and Kieran and Conrad are the balanced characters, but why would you, or anyone else for that matter, choose Kieran when his stats are inferior to Konrad's in every single way? Is there something Kieran can do that Konrad can't that gives him an advantage, or is he really just plain WEAKER than Conrad?

Because Kieran is the canon hero. Lands of Lore 2 references the fact that Kieran was the one who slayed Scotia.

Also, Conrad has a personality on par with a pool of mud.

Kieran has the special advantage of being able to attack faster than any of the other characters (and he has a higher evasion rate as well). He's also the most challenging to play (whereas Conrad is the easiest), good players enjoy a challenge ;D

Near 2 seconds cool down against 3 secs for the others... so in some sense he MAY have a nice damage overall, but he's very fragile (low hp and protection)... also, he has a good amount of magic points if you increase his magic...

since he attacks faster but is fragile, a good strategy should be using range weapons, hit and running.. but using melee is pretty cool also for his fast attack =)!

@GameSheriff Kieran has a very high SPEED. He can attack much faster than any other character. He can run much faster than any other character. And when he is wounded, he will heal faster than the others, during walking/waiting, but also during the sleeping. That's his advantage.

Personally, I play with Conrad, however. I have even defeated the final boss on HARD difficulty level with him, which you can do easily if you prepare yourself correctly.

Yeah dosbox works ok, problem is that in order to run lands lore on pentiums you need the 1.02 patch. The patch only comes in 32 bit.
