This is very similar to how Shakespeare made his plays. When a character hid behind a bush or interacted with the environment, the actors would use basic props. So it does not surprise me what James could get such a good performance out of the actors despite having no elaborate set. It does not take millions of dollars in set design to get a good actor into character. However, today it does take billions of dollars in computers for people to like it.
300... Without doubt one of the greatest cinema experiences you will ever have. No longer showing in 3D which is a real shame. Cinemas should run this for a year to allow everyone to see it at its best. Congrats to Jim and crew on a fantastic film.

OMG took my breath away, to see how this was made....... wow. The actors did amazingly. Jim inspired me to continue working on my rpg game, and to write again. Its good to see that there are still creative people in this world, and that technology can help us so greatly. To be able to do something like this.... I only wish i could have been part of it to work with him must have been an experience that no one could forget. A creator that never gave up and created something beautifully amazing.
Official DVD release date is April 22nd 2010 which is ironicly Earth Day. James also said this 3D Directors Cut release will be sometime in November 2010

@aytches AMPAS does not recognize performance capture as legitimate acting. It's not really their fault. They just need to be educated. Morgan Freeman said it was cartoons. Meryl Streep compared it to The Fantastic Mr. Fox. It will take an extraordinary performance for the art to be recognized.

This is unbelievable! I didn't realize how complex the motion capture process was for this film. It looks like a lot of tedious work, but it definitely paid off big (literally and figuratively)! The most unbelievable part about this movie is quite paradoxically that you do in fact believe what you are seeing.

I love watching the side by side scenes. I hope they include some more of these on the dvd extras. it reminds me a lot of watching a stage play. Amazing to see how you take that and use cgi to make itn amazing movie performance. Too cool!

I love how people are simply saying, "Oh it only beat Titanic because of the ticket prices for IMAX." I can also argue those same ticket prices can kill a movie if it really did "suck" as so many have quoted saying...
Just shut up haters and enjoy a really great movie. STOP trying to get attention all the time by always going against the hype... Avatar has lived up to the hype and then some, I quote now, this movie will break 2Billion worldwide box office...

I love watching the side by side scenes. I hope they include some more of these on the dvd extras. it reminds me a lot of watching a stage play. Amazing to see how you take that and use cgi to make itn amazing movie performance. Too cool!
