  • Powertec WB Bench presses are actually only 72% of what the bar weight is. This is due to the fact your hands are well out in front of the weight.(that is why it is called a leverage system).

I have a the WB-MS and with 280 pounds on the bar I put a scale suspended from center of hand grip and lifted the bar....the scale read 204 lbs.

So hate to burst your bubble but your 210 is 150 pounds....

Don't believe me goto a gym and put 210 pounds on bench press with free weights.spotter required.

  • Hey, I was wondering if the classis L-M10 leverage bench would build muscle and strength? Mainly I am concerned about the muscle. I use to lift on cages, so I know my muscle memory will come back. I am 5 ft.7 ...but I weighed 180 at 10% b/f. That's not the case now, however....Would I be better off getting the leverage bench or a cage? I will be lifting by myself, I have suffered shoulder injuries in the past. IDK.....

  • That was AWESOME! Are you a Professional Strong Man?

  • @ASSBANG6969 I agree, that was HUGE!!!

  • Is there any chance that you could do shrugs with this machine?Or any other exercise to work out your traps?

  • Yes you can do shrugs with this machine.

  • yep its in the booklet

  • its safe! if u got injured with free weights you'll became a pussy!

  • Is the real bench press with the bar better for building yourself up. Let's say for football? Because I have the Powertec power-rack and I can lift a lot of weight on it, but I can't lift with the bar for shit.

  • you prolly cant lift with the bar because theres balance on a bar and not a machine

  • yeah true, but I've been using the machine for quite a while now and I'm much stronger than before, plus my max with/without the bar increased a shit load.

  • I think when you workout with a machine, you will really strengthen your major muscle groups, but all the little ancillary ones that help balance the bar don't get the same workout. Like the guy above said really. By the same token, you can go harder with the major muscles and not worry about getting your skull caved in while benching when you use this machine. Buy some dumbbells to do presses that way too, that would help the lesser mucles and tendons develop too.

  • Hey thanks bro, that's exactly what I did actually, isolating with some dumbbells.

  • quick question...what is the weight of the press handle without any plates? is it equivalent to a 45lbs. olympic barbell?

  • uhm i beleive so i got about 45 when i held the handle and stood on a scale, weighed the combo, then subtracted my weight from it.

  • actually i just emailed powertec and they gave me this response...

    Hi,

You need to subtract 10% from any weight you put on the arm. The Bench press arm weighs 15 LBS. If you load 100 LBS of plates the total weight would be:

    Press Arm:

    100 LBS -- 10 LBS(10%) + 15 LBS(arm weight) = 105 LBS

    Regards,

    Nick

  • I've got this model of the powertec and on balance i think its the best because its got the leg curl/extension and the cable attachments. The squat bar can only take 135kg although i've used it with 160, But the bench press handle 500 pounds (220kg) and the leg attachment 120kg. The only problem i have is that I'm six four and the handles aren't wide enough on the bench press, but i have extended them out by sliding pipe over them and its all good now.

  • yeah it def gets the job done

  • my cousin just benched 255 lbs 10x on this one and did a burn out set of around 12 reps with 160 lbs...he's strong cuz he's used to free weights, and he only benches 225 eight times with the olympic bar... free weights > machines

  • dude, theres no questions free weights are better, but youc ant always have a spotter and playing a varsity sport like i do doesnt always leave too much time to get to a gym, thats why this is a perfect alternative

  • i dont use a spotter either, i just have two extra "racks" (like where you rack the bar) on a lower position so that if i fail i put just rack them there. and on my last set, i do two really heavy reps then i do 6-12 reps for a burnout set then 8-12 reps for a superset no rests in between...gives you the same stimulation as if you went to failure all out...

  • @rickm8 The perfect alternative would of been the powertec power rack -.- thats free weights and safe

  • what kind of handle connectors come with it? I'm planning on getting that too.

  • handle connectors? it comes with a lat pulldown bar, curl bar, squat bar to go where the benching handles go, and its reallly flexible you can get alot of dif excersizes out of it

  • dont get that one...get the powertec power rack...there's a video here on youtube about it too...i have it and its awesome. my cousin has this one and i think it sucks

  • hey I want to get that gym how big is it???

  • Your an animal! Pretty cool!
