I noticed that short drivers have the steering wheels on the Playseat way too close. I see arms almost in line with the driver's body. This is not how you drive in real life. Is this the farthest the wheel can get and still reach the pedal comfortably for guys that are 5"8" tall or shorter?
@simracingtonight I see. My suspicion is valid then. I am now building my wheel/pedal frame to suit my size to a T. I am using a Boomchair Shark seat. It will be a separate seat & frame design. I'll post a video when I am done.
I think the here presented setups require considerable space. If you don't use your setup you can just stumple over it... IMHO this here is a smart idea for that problem... -->video: "selfmade playseat for GT5" or "F1 2010 on my playseat (SFS)"
LOL who doesn't hard mount their Fanatec wheel? I love my VRC. Its the most moddable of ANY chassis. I've mounted a complete suspension to mine, along with buttkicker, and soon a D-box. Its a great chassis. I don't get any of the "flex" or steering wheel movement they talked about. It's great for $250 and you can get two of the shifter mounts and use it for flight sims which I do. Also, if you use industrial strength velcro the center steering wheel mount is great for Steel Battalion.
If you glance at my "Setting up your Driving View" thread on RSC Forums you can see how I worked out your "correct" fov should be 29 degrees V-fov. Settable only in each cars .cam file.
Hey Darin one question I have about how you hard mounted the fanatec shifter to the VRC, did Thomas at Fanatec say by doing that It will go against your warranty because I've ordered a turbo s and I do wanna hard mount the shifters rather than use the chop sticks and great show many thanks If you can reply asap.
@kizzagt You can use standard pieces of hardware, long bolts, etc to mount it using the holes in the shifter.. Another option is to try and get the shifter piece that comes with the Table clamp, or rennsport wheelstand and mount that to your VRC
one advice: wear black socks for that kind of reviews. Great reviews! good work! nice gear! i own a momo racing, im happy, and u guys made me think about buinding my own cockpit
I've had a VRC for about a year and a half. It's a bit of a hassle to get into and out of because it's so low - the advantage is that we can see over it to watch TV w/o moving it! I use a G25 setup; the steering column is very solid - the key is to wiggle the steering column a little bit while tightening the adjustment knob for maximum clamping. Once that's done, it's almost as solid as a real car. Mounted a Buttkicker 2 very low on the back of the seat for maximum effect - works great!
I tried Shift demo, because I have a new beasty OC PC that can run any game at high settings. NFS Shift doesn't even have pitlanes. Pretty hard to simulate racing if you can't have a pitstop.
Well, my point is that Shift is the first pseudo-simulator game that can appeal to more wide varieties of players. Also, in my opnion, it is one of the most engaging driving simulation I've experienced with my Logitech MOMO because of its amazing cockpit, viewpoint discretion, and unprecedented realism that is either like or hate. However, it should be considered in review since this game is multi-platform and more open to public (-> generates more views for simracing if they had their timing)
I got the Evo chair for 250 a year ago on Amazon Sale... I think based on my research is best bang for the money, and best way to enjoy any sim game.. Only thing I would change is the seat itself. After few continuous hours it's not too comfortable to sit in. So I would suggest go to junk yard or buy a new REAL car seat and just attach it to the Evo Base.. and its a perfect wheel and still cheap.
can you really just use any seat and mount it to the playseat base? i thought you would have to at least fabricate a whole new baseplate or something..?
Where can u buy the playseats because its not on your website and its not on there own web sight either or at least in us dollars I really am interested in buying. I would just like to know if there is anything out there So if anyone can help please respond to this comment Thank You
I was wondering what is the best sim in terms of "driving school" modes? I remember the old EA F1 sims used to have a driving school mode but Ive never found anything similar in the sims Ive tried lately.
Playseat has a comfortable seat? Come on, I know you guys are trying to sell them but being dishonest will only deliver unhappy customers. The seat is comparable to an old pull-out sofa bed with springs digging in you.
If you guys spend more than a few days in it you will know what I mean, I too thought it was comfortable when I first got it, but that wears out in a hurry.
Well.. one of our collegeagues is still using it and it's fine.. It's not a lazy boy, but beats racing at a desk anyday.. Also, we are not trying to sell playseat.. Off all the rigs we've tried, it ranks third on my list.
wow, I weigh in at 170 lbs and last time I checked it IS for sell on your website. Look, I really enjoy what you guys do for the sim world. I have been watching and following y'all for a couple of years. Maybe I got a bad seat, I am not ignoring that possibility. The one that I received really is a painful experience. I agree it beats a desktop setup, it is very adjustable and light. BUT there is a support wire that adgitates tailbone and another at your lower back, that's where it will wear.
Also, I have an idea. Why not include a short segment of "Viewer Reviews"? Just let us know what you are reviewing in the next episode and we can give our two cents and add some cool content to the end of your reviews....just an idea. Thanks for all your hard work, it is appreciated.
Hey guys another great show, as always very informative. I had been thinking about getting a sim rig for myself, but like Shaun I am on the short side. Being only 5'7"-5'8" depending what shoes I have on. I am concerned about the comfort level of some of these rigs. You say Shaun has some comfort issues with the rigs. I was wondering how tall he actually is so I could guess at my own comfort level based on his comments.
I own a VRC since about 6 months. This is a great investment. The quality and the position is great. This is really an F1 position. To bad they did not use the G25 when they tried on the show. The Fanatec.. ( sorry guys from Fanatec) is not as good quality as the G25. it moves because the clamp is not good...
We tested the VRC with both wheels and it made no difference in how we felt about the rig..
The VRC is a good rig.. we just feel there's better for the price and since we are comparing rigs for under $1000, we needed to point out it short comings.
If the monitor stand was included, or it was closer to $200, we would have given it a thumbs up.
Nice show guys. Just a thought on the VRC, I have one and the knob-turn-thingy has a plastic peace on the end inside to protect from marking up the powder coat. I had to tighten it down really good to get all the wobble out.
Hey Darin, go to mydocuments\simbin\volvo the game\userdata\controlset and edit one of the profiles you see there.. this worked for my G25 shifter: (it's weird but 1st and second it reads as 85 and 86, hopefully it works for your sst as well. GL
Great show as always guys, how long before the new series? I hope it's not too long!
The FOV segment was very helpfull, I've not played around with FOV before and never really knew what is was about, thanks Shaun for the great explanation!
Though they seemed to have another variant of the G25 shifter that I got. But surely it looks to be just as low. I could never use it either for that reason I used it to mount my gamer on it instead so it wasn´t in vane :)
Hey SRT! Greetings from Poland. I watch your programs for some time now and really like it. The reviews are very reliable. Helped me a lot with many choices. Wish you all the best with next set. Can't wait.
Oh, and one more thing - don't let that girl to go away ;). She's very nice.
Strangely they didn't mention the biggest blow with the Playseat Evo. The G25 shifter stand is WAY too low. The top of gear knob is lower than your knee! So you can either shift very slow or just agressively throw your hand at it and eventualy rip it out ))
I bought that holder, and then had to add 200mm of upwards tube to it, to put the shifter into a racing position.
Hey, What is the best racing rig out right now? I just pre orderd the fanatec 911 turbo s clubsport and need a good racing rig for both the xbox (FORZA3) and the computer (iracing) so what can do both??
nixim racecraft... Cheaper alternative maybe the Obutto ozone would work?
btw I suspect there is some inaccuracy... Correct me if I am wrong but the curb effect on the Volvo Game isn´t that a software bug for the Fanatec 911 turbo drivers? Or did you get it with the G25 as well. I get that in all isi based titles at times.
A show segment suggestion for you guys.....a Darin vs Shawn shootout every episode where the viewers vote the sim and mod, or you both choose your favourites between yourselves. Have some sort of scoreboard. You would probably need 2 rigs set up head to head in the new studio....
Definately, guys, i would love to see more racing. Cmon Shaun! You could take Darin!
Wait... "Physics seams to be pretty realistic"? C'mon guys... You know that SimBin got veeeery easy on the physics (even in Pro mode) cause Volvo don't want their future customers to think that a Volvo is a hard-to-drive vehicle.
Dont forget that the rFactor FOV setting is a Vertical setting, not horizontal, so your actual horizontal FOV can differ depending on the aspect ratio of your screen with the same FOV setting in the game.
