  • I want a bass like that so I can stab the drunk assholes that get too close to the stage.

  • A lot of old greg references lol

  • how Bootsy collins got the funk :o

  • Superscaryeti!!! You're a fucking moron!!!

  • Ohhh sooo FUNKY!!!!

  • is it just me or do black people look funny playing guitars

  • @superscaryeti Superscaryeti you feel this way because the images shown to you over the years by the media never showed you the folks who started playing blues and grass music. Their interest didnt come until years later when bias feeling were put aside. Its like anything if you don't see it yes it does seem weird. Peace

  • @superscaryeti no they just play it the right way :)

  • @superscaryeti are you saying that black people look out of place playing guitar or are you referring to the way they really get into their playing more than white people who just stand around looking constipated?

  • @tomthefunky does it really matter when all that happened? The funk is a living breathing thang. Ya dig? Therefore, it cannot be tracked to any given point on the timeline. All things funk existed before they were born. So many negatives vibes grooving on this pure jam.

  • anyone care to explain why this guy in the back is wearing diaper?

  • @ingroom they've been doing that since the early days of funkadelic, chalk it up to showmanship

  • @ingroom The diaper is symbolic of regeneration and rebirth.

Or maybe he had loose bowels that day and wanted something disposable.

  • Wow...that was a deep bass solo. Way to go Bootsy.I have seen both Jimi and Bootsy and would have loved to see them play together. It would have been killer. By the way does anyone know what song the Funk/Mob is playing?

  • Long live Bootsy..... I think that guy in the dipper just took a dump. lol

  • Dam! His "SPACE BASS" needs to be in the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame"...or the Smithsonian museum!!! This is the "coldest" string solo ive ever witnessed in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jagdwerksdraago He already is in the hall of fame, happened in 97.

  • Jimi Hendrix and Bootsy Collins would have been too EPIC together :/

  • great!!

  • trying to enjoy the solo but the diaper guy is just so distracting o.o

  • Bootsy kicks ass! And this solo does not even come close to his stratosphere level ability!

  • Actually...MrNUWRIGHT, Jimi was about Rock, Rythym and Blues, just a heavy Rythm and Blues. I'm sure you heard the Band of Gypsy's joint. The Solo on Machine Gun, very comparable to Bootsy's star bass solos.

P-Funk touched so many genres just adding a little bit of the FUNK to each including Rock Rythm and Blues like Jimi. In fact it was the Mothership that sent down the chariot to let Jimi ride that fateful night in a London flat.

    Peace

  • How could you folks be comparing Bootsy with Jimmy--Both are great but -Bootsy is about Funk!!!!! Jimmy is about Hardcore Rock, totally different styles. WTF

  • @MrNUWRIGHT STFU the compairson is dead on Are you trying to say if Bootsy rocked with JImi, he (bootsy) would'nt know what to play with Jimi? They are like sould brothas .one on guitar the other onbase stop killin my high wit that bullshit mane!

  • OMG get it Dogg

  • I just got Funked to death..

  • note to self don't do this on gig

  • love it

  • Legendary solo from the main man !

  • Neat stuff! Cool When music was being played, what's happened in the last 20+ years, there ain't no music, we gots Ga Ga Spears Beiber...we is devolving!

  • HOLY SHIT is all I can say @_@ genius

  • Yeah this is some good funkin rock here. Bootsy was playing tribute to Jimi for sure and he did a great job. As far as similiar sounds I can't think of any off hand that's some deep shit right there. If you like bass check up some Stanley Clark.

  • what's up with the guitarist with the diaper in the background?

  • @drew19932-That is none other than Garry Shider, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for Parliament-Funkadelic. Bootsy and Garry have written some hellified grooves over the years, including "Let's Take It To The Stage", Unfunky UFO, and "Bop Gun".

  • WTF??? Are you serious?? You posted this back in 2007 and it only has 570,407 views. Hell I posted Rick James Fire and Desire back in 2008 and it has 1,382,520 views. This right here should have just as much if not more views. Man you need to add alot more tags so more people can find this slammin joint...

  • Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

  • This sound, what is it doing, what is happening in my pants... divine. Truly.

  • @maddogmolenaar The Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey in 2000, they sound completely different now so find their old stuff. I suggest the album Winterwood, it's free!

  • mind = blown

  • @holycrapIambehind who sucked it?

  • @Relapse46 ? Who trolled it?

  • @holycrapIambehind wait o I get what you mean... bootsy's bass totally gave my brain an amazing bj

  • Does anyone know any bands that sound like this?

  • @MadDogMolenaar chili peppers

  • @JPguitarbeats Anyone else? like instrumental bands

  • i wanted to listen to bootsy, "but I keep thinking Whats with the guitarist and diaper situation"?

  • Bootsy is pimpin' that bass like it owes him money! there has never been a better funk bass player ever!

  • ALL effects with LOTS of help from the guitarists...C-

  • This is the best 240 has ever looked O_O

  • Bootsy made that bass guitar sing!!!!!

  • HE PLAYED WITH JAMES BROWN when he was a kid.

  • If you could make the feeling of ejaculating inside a beautiful woman that you love more than anything in the world into sound, this would be it :)

  • @mward69 Wow.

  • is there a studio version of this?

  • bootsy literally fukd that guitar and made it sing, too ill

  • Bootsy is straight off the chain here...

  • smh why do Youtube offer a Mute button option on this video, I should flag Youtube for that.

  • Okay. My two cents. Bootsy uses effect to enhance his music. He may not play complex lines, but the overall effect is good in my opinion. Isn't that what counts?

  • I played this and my android phone got pregnate ... Damn you Bootsy!

  • im sorry to say but i dont like this solo.... ive seen another one from him and it was much better

  • that is one horrible piece of equipment, have to be on acid to like that !!

  • When he played with James Brown he was good.

After then I never heard him play anything that impressed me.

Just an opinion. Not a fact.

  • The Funk Wizard.

  • just came........ twice (= x x x

  • If Jimi Hendrix had played bass, this is how he would do it.

  • @tim78704 jimi hendrix did lay bass you moron, and he didnt play it like this.

That auto wah is sooooo shit, his bsss sounds like a peice of meat hiting the pavement.

  • Comment removed

  • @Imgonnabagyou LMAO ! Hey dumbass Boosty has sold millions of records both as lead singer and bass player in his own Bootsy's Rubber Band and as the bass player and sometimes lead singer of legendary funk band Parliament/Funkadelic !

You don't know diddly and Bootsy can and has played with the best musicians around !

  • Comment removed

  • @phade2blaq Look dude bootsy is cool enough i spose.

He is nothing on hendrix and this solo isnt good.

  • @Imgonnabagyou Fuck off you worthless troll.

  • @tim78704 I Disagree, no one can even tuch the style of Bootsy Collins

  • @tim78704 he actually did play bass on one of his albums i forget which one but he was really obsessed with getting the right sound n the bass player wasnt gettin gthe sound he wanted so when the guy left he recorded the part himself lol. i thought that was kinda funny when i heard it

  • the diaper wearing guitar player in the back is Garry Shider, RIP

Bootsy funkin' up to the sky

  • Being a cincinnati boy, I get to see bootsy around quite a bit. He's a genuinely nice guy. But as a bass player I really don't like his solos. He seems to be just playing with effects while vamping on simple riffs. I think he's going for something more visual as opposed to making a statment on his instrument. It comes down to a persons decision to be an entertainer over being a musician. He sounds much better when demoing gear in a music store. Sorry boots. :(

  • @ackbass I agree completely.

  • its spititul what bootsy does, mhis effects give an edge on his playing, bootsy ftw

  • He is jimi Hendrix, if jimi hendrix was even more talented, and played funky bass.

Bootsy is the best there ever was.

  • What is even happening right now?

  • Bootsy, Larry Graham, and Louis Johnson - my favorite bass guitar players.

  • Foot pedals... with a BASS?? Woooah! AND a man in a diaper??

  • FUNK YEAH !!!

Bootsy showing just how the hell you play the bass if you're from outer space.

Always liked the guy, bought his latest album this week.....perfect music if you're in the mood...which is, like always.

And Bootsy may not have invented the funk, for me he's the face of funk. Still doing his thing after all these years, keeping the funk alive. So it's not exactly popular anymore.....listen to the crappy bands of today, hear where they got their stuff from and hell yeah funk's alive.

  • Diapers and high tops no ones telling him shit..

  • omg imagine Hendrix with Bootsy jamming out the hell of their instruments!

  • This just gives me goosbumbs

    Its great!!!!

  • HELL YES.

  • yaba daba doozie bubba one of my bass heroes do your thang bootzilla you are the center

    I love ya.....

  • I dont think Bootsy knows that the Bass Guitar is not a Lead Guitar!!! And quite frankly,, I am not so sure either. I have alwways loved Bootsy's music.

  • Comment removed

  • I'M OLD GREG

  • that music sounds when you use right notes ...

  • Why is a guy with a diaper in the back?

  • @Rushkyakunoichi P-runk....diaperman. Member of the band. It's the motheship, things like a guy in a diaper are pretty much normal.

  • @Rushkyakunoichi Cause funk

  • hey was that a 1969 Marshall vintage 100 watt head in the backgrd. LOL! go BOOTSIE 1

  • He made some top notch funk shakes. Gotta love the Boosh.

  • The best @ What he do. I love bootsy!!!

  • topbanana

  • Thumbs up if you noticed the diaper-wearing guitar player in the back.

  • @bogey3000 Dude in the diaper is named "Diaper-man" can you dig that for showmanship? Pure genius!!!!!!

  • @hoopbone1 Garry Shider, amazing funkateer...R.I.P.

  • guys wearing a diaper wtf lol

  • What song is this? Anyone know?

  • @WoodsofWilmer "I'd rather be with you" by Bootsy's Rubber Band. The version with the bass solo is on a live double cd

  • Sum Real FUNK....thankz

  • so gritty, painful funk, contortion city baby!

  • did you guys know hendrix had a brother? yeah he plays bass. goes by the name of BOOTSY bitch!!!!!!!1

  • Am i the only one who noticed the guy behind Bootsy wearing diapers

  • ill pay all the money of the world to live the trip he is living. WOW

  • what effects is he using

  • The whole "Bootsy needs effects" argument is silly at best, and downright lazy and ignorant at worst. Several James Brown recordings feature Bootsy throwin' down like no other while using no effects. Even when his tone is drenched with effects, his soul and skill are obvious. He can do stripped-down funk or lush soundscapes equally well because he's BOOTSY!!! Bootsy haters - at least do a little research before you comment.

  • wtf is with the guitarist in the background hahaha

  • Hendrix never die!!

  • i am not worthy

  • Epic! More effects Bootsy!

  • bootsie no tiene un duende tiene a depredador

  • people get too hooked up on technicality in music, it's all about the soul.

  • How does he make his bass squeal. I know it's an effect, but which one ? Plz help :)

  • @sirboogie1 The "squeal" is the way he plays it (hitting and pulling strings, rather than just plucking and using high fret harmonics) plus effects like Wah-wah, Echo and he's probably got an "active" button on his bass.... But he IS Bootsie and the most probable reason why he sounds like he does is years of experience.

  • Rock out witcha cock out!!!

  • And that's when bootsy Collins found the funk

  • YUSH

  • Its hypnotic

  • This really blew me away... well I now have a new Idol on bass

  • @KillingWithASmile100 victor wooten is a great bass player as well, same with billy sheehan, check them out sometime eh?

  • sergiomats....that guy with the diaper was the late, great Garry Shider. He'd been with the P.Funk mob since 1969...He was their long time musical director until his death in 2009...Rest in peace, Diaper Man!!!!!

  • @5302cmh1958 And one of the Key minds behind the P-funk sound along with George.

  • So larry Graham.

  • Well, if I understand the story of this solo 2:20 is the ejaculation, right ?

  • He had a nice big funk shake before this performance.

  • who cares how many effects he uses, or what other musicians do, it's just music so shut the fuck up and enjoy it. Stop comparing because it's all subjective, no two musicians are exactly the same so you can't compare at all and who cares anyway, it's all music from Bootsy to some guy playin guitar on the street, just shut your mouth cause of a majority of you people just say stupid shit anyways, and just listen and enjoy the music, forget the materialistic bullshit that you all hold so dear

  • @TheBside1111

Thank you , you're so right. I'm an x-dj in Denver. I grew up jamming George Clinton, Bootsy, etc... starting in the 70's. People may not agree with me, but I consider the two toughest are BOOTSY and Buckethead

  • How many pickups are on that bass? I lost count at 26... Go Bootsy!

  • He's the low-end Hendrix!

  • @mindstormsabrewin

Your comment about Bootsy is crazy. He is just as tough, if not better than Hendrix. He is one of the baddest bass players ever!

  • @MrMaxximuss01 When I called Bootsy the "low-end Hendrix" I didn't mean "Low quality"! I meant low end as in BASS frequencies. Sorry for the confusion. But since we're on the subject, I wonder what a project involving Bootsy and Jimi would have sounded like.

  • @mindstormsabrewin

bootsy is a god in his own right, ive heard hendrix on the bass, its not as nice as his guitar, but over all there both awesome

  • @mindstormsabrewin Well... I think Bootsy is at another level from Hendrix. Funkier and on the whatever-End. Ya dig?

  • @chiba1ken I dig! Much funkier than Hendrix. Jimi was the fire, Bootsy was the ice: Coooooool Muthufukka! Imagine what the Multiverse would have become if those two had been brought together in the studio! All KINDS of frequencies would have come on the scene from such an event. Maybe someone out there could do a badass edit job with these computers and put them on the same track? Peace- coming from the whatever end of things.

  • amazing, love the effect use, love the way he mixes them perfectly

  • Oh my lord. Now that's what I call GOD

  • you can only be 'so' cool, when you are wearing a diaper. 0_o

  • he slaps that bass like a pimp slaps a ho

  • but then George Clinton kicked the funky ball of tits into the ocean and now only

    Old Greg has the funk

  • @TheOzzyCommeth i love you preaching the Word about the mother fucking bootsy collins.. youre clearly a sabbath fan too..rare these two genres coalesce. somebody raised you right. ;)

  • Nobody does it like Bootsy! Love ya Boots!

  • whats with his guitarist in the nappy!

  • bootsy, you and buckethead really nead to get back together again

  • Welcome to Japan, August 2011.

  • @bluenote3 The fuck?

  • dipers?!

  • ...is that dude at the biggining of the video....wearing a diaper??????????

  • @ellebabygirl1 HAHAHAHAHA are you retarded.... "This guy wouldn't go very far without effects..." this "guy" is mother fucking bootsy collins. he CREATED funk bass. all that shit he does is what countless bass players replicate. not some rage against the machine tom morello bullshit who just uses guitar fx to hide his lack of musicianship. yeah he's got mad effects on his in this particular video, but he's playing em smoother then ANYONE else in the world could. fuck you ignorant bitch. BOOTSY!

  • @TheOzzyCometh tom morello can't play guitar hu? Ur fucking ignorant bro. Since eddie van halen came up with tapping, he cant play either right?

  • @TheOzzyCometh Not only that but he was in the JBs james brown wouldn't have let his ass play in the band I doubt he would ever be allowed to use effects.

  • @TheOzzyCometh tom morellos awesome :O

but then again so is bootsy collins :P

  • @TheOzzyCometh all musicians are different. Comparing Tom Morello to bootsy is like comparing Switchfoot to Slipknot, totally different styles altogether. Bootsy and Morello are great musicians who know their instruments very well.

  • @TheOzzyCometh well the rage based insults just make you sound uneducated.

  • @TheOzzyCometh he played with BUCKETHEAD FOR CRIPES SAKE !

  • @TheOzzyCometh tom morrello is to guitar as bootsy is to bass

  • @TheOzzyCometh well said TheOzzyCometh!!!

  • @TheOzzyCometh Hey this is theozzycometh, for some reason when i try to log back into my account it makes me sign up for google mail and i don't feel like doing it lol. this is my friends account, but i didn't mean to diss on rage against the machine fans, tom morello is cool and all, but because of the 500 letter limit i had to kinda wrap it up and he was what came to my mind at the time. so i hope no one was offended (besides ellebabygirl1 for being a dumb cunt) keep up DA FUNK!

  • @TheOzzyCometh wow, did you really just say that about Tom Morello? go fuck yourself. idc what kind of argument you're trying to win here, but that's the one of the worst statements I've ever heard. you're right about Bootsy, but not about Tom. you're an ignorant cunt. I hope you turn deaf so you can no longer make statements about music. even if you went by what you know, people will just be like "oh well, he's deaf, so he's retarded." which people should be saying now anyways.

  • @TheOzzyCometh Comparing apples to oranges is like trying to put the triangle into the square. You're logic doesn't work here.

Also, the list of effects that Tom uses doesn't seem to be outside of any other ordinary setup. Wah pedal, flangers, tremolo... Using effects doesn't hide skill, it opens up a new creative avenue to explore.

    Bad troll is bad.

  • @TheOzzyCometh wut yu said! plus tht nigga a fckn pimp!

  • @TheOzzyCometh Yeah, Bootsy is a phenom, but let's also give Larry Graham some props for being a funk bass pioneer.

    Gotta disagree about Morello, though.

  • @bricebu i know man, could only fit so many words in one comment. and i didn't mean that about morello i was just heated at the time haha, first thing that came to mind.

  • @TheOzzyCometh

    Thank you, soul brother.

  • @TheOzzyCometh why the hate? Morello's awesome.

    so is bootsy motherfucking collins!

  • @TheOzzyCometh yes bootsy is good but dont slag off morllo wrongly, he is a great MUSICIAN but he uses effects because he wants a DJ style sound, not the most amazing guitarist but he incorperates the effects into his way of playing if you dont like it it doesnt mean he is bad..

  • @TheOzzyCometh Tom morello = "lack of Musicianship"??? Are you insane? I suggest you check out some of his stuff and open your mind. Effects asside, the man is a great guitarist. Dont be so narrow minded. MUSIC!

  • @TheOzzyCometh I'm not into funk, might be therefor i've never heard of him until i say DR Strings Bootsy Collins and checked him up, but been asking round you know about if people know about him, no one does, at least not in sweden where funk on the other hand isn't famous in any way, not much anyways, but for me to NEVER have heard of him, and none of my friends either i wouldnt call him the creator of funk, Larry Graham on the other hand, now THAT is something else.

  • @bonzzo15 man lets be honest, funk isn't popular in any part of the world these days lol. And yeah as far as i know Larry Graham did invent slap bass, but that doesn't mean he necessarily 'created' funk bass. Bootsy and James Brown were rocking that shit before Sly and The Family Stone even started. I say Bootsy gets the credit

  • @TheOzzyCometh: Sly And the Family Stone became famous two or three years before Bootsy joined James Brown's band. Bootsy was playing in a bar band in Cincinnati when Sly was playing Madison Square Garden and Woodstock. Stick to metal. You know nothing about funk.

  • @tomthefunky that's it.... I CHALLENGE THEE TO A BASS DUEL

  • @tomthefunky and fuck that, okay my facts are wrong by a few years, but that doesn't mean i don't know anything about funk. I just personally believe that what Bootsy did with James Brown, Parliament, as well as his solo shit is enough to say that he was one of the main (if not THE main) funkateer.
