  • reading is boring :)

  • whers his hands why is she so excited

  • She sounds like her lineage is swedish, yAH. They should be advertising towards college kids more...it would be nice to see physics, math, and other symbology based information.

  • I hate the way she TALKKKSSS!

  • @WeThrowPie ....grow up.

  • wow. Only questions require an upward infliction.

  • I actually had one of these.....4 to b exact. its way too fragile. the screen breaks really easily. it it was a lil more sturdy it would b the greatest and they should make it so it will read other book formats other than the kindle format

  • um i pad.....

  • The kindle looks cheap considering its outrageous price! I'll be waiting for something to come out that can store all my DRM free PDF books

  • @jamesbrownintown : it doesnt 'look cheap' at all. It looks like printed paper. Get a clue, nigger.

  • @WeThrowPie First off, mind my name, I'm not black so that phrase doesn't really affect me other than show what an ignorant dumb redneck you are. Anyway sticking to the topic, The kindle is an over priced piece of shit! Everyone I know that has made the purchase regrets it, these corporate scum bags need to heed to the advice of working out the native pdf issue. Do redneck's read?

  • @jamesbrownintown : only you dont know anyone who has made the purchase, because your life is filled with overzealous adhd ipad morons. You people are fucking simpletons. You wouldn't understand the concept of a book if I were to hit you with one in the head.

  • @WeThrowPie ipad? "your life is filled with overzealous adhd ipad morons?" You would not have said that if you would have watched my "worst products of the decade video" which includes apple's shitty headphones. So no, Kindle has recently made a good move with the newer version and lower price, but it's still shit because it neglects pdf support again. I can't wait until someone with billions of dollars is smart enough to invest in a PDF ebook reader, I'll gladly pay $100 bucks for that

  • @jamesbrownintown : they read pdfs, nitwit.

lol, you're ignorant of what it can do and basing your entire opinion on something you're WRONG about.

  • @WeThrowPie the pdf support is poor, do you enjoy reading tiny print? you can't even zoom in or bookmark where you left off, it's shitty and I suggest people boycott this product unless it upgrades with pdf freindly support or let this product dry up and die

  • @jamesbrownintown : no one reads fucking pdf.

  • @WeThrowPie Well welcome to the 21st century! Everything is in pdf now days

  • cause its used to books mostly...most books are black and white

  • no shit...i'd rather read a real book anyway.

  • I ordered the Kindle because where I currently live I do not have access to a bookstore or a comprehensive public library. Last time I read a book that was in color was in kindergarden--so having a grey scale e-reader is not a big deal, unless of course you want to download picture books.

  • Also my Kindle has payed for itself in 3 months-- if I went to a book store and bought all the best sellers at price (instead of 9.99 w/ the kindle) I would spend $300 dollars a month where with the kindle its only $100. So there ya go. That is why people pay hundreds for a "f'in grey scale"

  • @cmdeluhery

Any books free if you know where to look :P

  • @frbjeffj :: you're a goddamn half wit. ITS FOR READING. It simulates what a real paper PAGE looks like. I get so fucking sick of morons like yourself. You probably don't even read books, why comment, you stupid shit?

  • @WeThrowPie ...right.. Its what a real page looks like...Keep telling yourself that.. and I won't succum to your immature taunts.. but simply advise you with the following: lose some of that 400 lbs.. get off the couch.. and try to get outside.. you might see what I like to call.. a "female" someday .. at which point ..if you're lucky.. you might get laid.. but I doubt it .. sad really.. oh.... and piss off :)

  • @frbjeffj : oh look a 'you don't ever go outside and talk to women' joke from another idiot on the internet. next you should use the 'you work at burger king' joke. you're a fucking halfwit kid, shut up.

  • @WeThrowPie Nice try ... but, as with everything else you'll ever attempt in life, you've failed. As for me, I'm in my 40's, a Senior Developer, making tons of money with a great family.. so the halfwit kid comments quite out of place.. I digress however, and will once again recommend you go outside and try to get some sunshine and perhaps see what a live woman looks like (and put the magazine or pr0n site down/away) ..

  • @frbjeffj : Jeff L Jernigan - you're a fucking moron. you don't grasp what e-ink is, so you should shut the fuck up. You're such a fucking stellar individual that you're bickering on youtube because you're a little bitch.

  • @WeThrowPie .... (sigh) ..As expected, you've shown yourself to be the immature, overweight teen we've all suspected you to be.. Please.. move on with life.. or just 'move' in general..

  • @frbjeffj : raped, nigger.

  • I have heard that the font size of the personal pdf cannot be changed in kindle..is it true ??

And can we directly connect kindle2 to PC & tranfer pdf directly to read .

  • Oprah is a huge fan of Kindle? or maybe Oprah endorsed on Kindle for marketing.... Truth told

  • how many free book/titles do we actually get when we buy the product at first? Do we only get the content when we buy them from amazon after buying kindle?

  • In Italia non si connette per cui se almeno avesse un WI-FI con cui connettersi potrebbe eseere utile anche per navigare oltre a leggere le pagine. Non mi sembra eccezionale. Costa troppo.

  • @vsminimoose ha ha ha I can relate, fellow packrat :)

  • Sony's touch version blows this out of the water!

  • @xXxDragunov14xXx they don't have a 9.5 inch version

  • I want one, but I'm holding out for at least one more generation.

eBooks should be no more than $5 by themselves.

For $10-15 you should get a real book mailed to you as well as your digital copy.

They also need to copy Steam and have weekend deals, holiday deals and publisher packages.

Magazine subscriptions should be marketed like crazy, "Buy a Kindle and get 2 years of New York Times, Newsweek, Wall street journal and Newsmax for free!"

    Just some opinions.

  • You are crazy. You say that because you obviously haven't used a Kindle 2. If you got your hands on one, you would change your tune

  • @Meejoe27 they use Linux to run it already, but as a programmer I am concerned about my vision, and so I am planning on getting one soon

  • Did the camera man HAVE to film half of it sideways? Yikes.

  • he was holding it normal, but the girl had the kindle sideways

  • why not Read a book ?

  • After a while, you waste alot space in your room with books. Kindle is really a good choice.

  • i love how they are deliberatly withholding a color screen for the kindle 3.....fuckin capitalist bastards!

  • i know right. planned obsolesce is a bitch.

  • T4nz4ni4232,

The Kindle uses a screen technology known as "E-Ink," or "E-Paper." It works by suspending particles of titanium dioxide in dyed oil.

This is not a black-and-white LCD screen here, guy. A "color screen" is not possible with this technology.

And this technology is used to significantly reduce eye strain and to significantly increase battery life.

  • Can we sync the kindle with the computer, like we can do with a sony reader?

  • @sandeeporama yeah, look at the website for models in question

  • @sandeeporama Verbatim from Amazon website:

"USB Port: USB 2.0 (micro-B connector) for connection to the Kindle U.S. power adapter or optionally to connect to a PC or Macintosh computer."

  • And the reason it's so expensive is because they proviod free wi-fi 24/7

  • It's actually not wi-fi, it's Whispernet, which is the technology that cell-phones use... about 327348.233 times better than wi-fi.

  • Plus, old books where copyrights have expired are like free. A pagage of 51 dickens books on it costs 99 cents. it dosnt cost them anything

  • you can get new books right away. also you can hold thousands of books in 1 device, read newspapers and magazines. it has a built in dictionary and you can instantly look up words in the text that are unfamiliar. there is access to wikipedia on the Kindle. All in all i believe this device is gold.touchscreen would be nice but i bet they will get to that. compare the cost your favorite books to the cost of the kindle and the books. free 3G internet which would cost $60/mth with a 2yr contract

  • 3g to navigate into the store! WTF. what DRM?! ugly Amazon. information is free!

  • The Kindles does not promote literacy - it promotes Amazons bottom line. A nice book promotes literacy - not a plastic computer.

I have small children and the idea that I can help them to read by buying a $400 plastic pda is not feasable. BOOKS help young children to read - ya know, those made of wood pulp with ink printed on them. The kids can turn the pages, I can point out the words - all without having to worry that the batteries will die and make my children, well, illiterate.

  • common dude this saves trees, think of the rainforest

  • that's true, children are very hands on learners. So the Kindle wouldn't be appropriate for them, but alot of adults may be drawn to the kindle since it's so convenient.

  • This is DEFINITELY not a replacement for literature, only a portable way to read, as well and other documents (like source code and software documentation) that are not available in print form and would fill up libraries if they were.

If you are worried about book shelf life (organic material decomposes) I would participate with (a) publisher(s) to make copies of their titles available in plastic sheets (printed on with some kind of inorganic non-decomposing dye) polymer-coated after printing.

  • As an avid reader i really want one of these, but they NEED to subsidize the price!

  • remember when flash memory was so expensive? or lcd monitors?

    be patient

  • Believe me, I'm a book lover like all of you folks, but I don't understand these book purists who are slamming the Kindle. It's a device that PROMOTES LITERACY. At the end of the day, don't we simply want people reading again? I was able to take Common Sense, Dubliners, and all the works of Shakespeare with me on a plane without having to lug around any books. I wish I had this thing in college.

  • ..well because it makes books less permanent and LESS affordable. If everyone starts digitizing books and you have to own a 400 device to read them, it starts to make it harder for people with less money to learn. That's the gist of the oppositions view though.

  • There are some dumb ideas thrown in this technology and you will see why in short due time.

  • Kindle = Fail. For a win it would have to have more of the convenience of paper. 1. fast and convenient way to annotate text. 2. natural book-like interface (eg swiping back and forth to flip pages). 3. loose that keyboard and make a touch screen (already required for 1,2). 4. make it durable/droppable (i don't imagine they stand up to that). Question: can i read any pdf I want or do i have to buy books from their store?

  • That's a tall order there, and some of the things you mentioned are trivial, like: 'natural book-like interface (eg swiping back and forth to flip pages)', is the button on the side to go to the next page too unnatural for you?!

  • the kindle 2 actually allows you to make notes in the margins just liek a regualr book and you can edit or delete them at any time unlike a paper book. and with the "book-like" interface if you actualy watch the video it shows you how to flip pages and even chapters with the touch of one or two buttons. you can read pdf and word documents that you e-mail to your kindle. Also the 3G connection allows you to buy book anytime at a lower price.

  • usb from your computer now

  • lol what?

  • WOW!!! 16 shades of grey....THis would be an expensive device paying for all those books and subscriptions......n top of the $360 device...KA CHING!!! for AMAZON.

  • lol do you pay for your music?

  • @cardiophagia the same way I pay for my food

  • "She is a huge fandle.. uh.. fan of the Kindle"

    LOL!!!!

  • glad i'm not the only one that thought that was hilarious.

    'opera is a huge fandle.'

    i agree.

  • Yeah. It's the same way the iPod is a complete flop. Stupid thing, you can only store thousands of albums in it to carry them around wherever you like really easily. Useless!

  • you do know that you have internet access.. not just wikipedia... that might also change your mind. you can buy books from the kindle itself... u dont need to plug it into the computer or anything.

  • I Got both,

I have a house full of Sony. From Phone,TV, DVD, PS3, and more than you can imagine

I bought Sony 505 and later 700 (700 was a big dissapointement due to touchscreen overlay, screen sucks)

Kindle 2 came as present, as I am a book author and seemed to some people as a good present to someone that read and write books.

505 got a supurb display, but also does kindle 2. Kindle 2 got all, 505 need to mature.

Dont take my word, Read any review.

    Kindle 2 rocks!

  • why is the white plastic border so thick? Please come up with better looking design! Sony has done it.

  • i totally agree. Only thing that is swaying my decision to get it.

  • very ugly. They could do a lot better. This looks like an over-sized PDA. FUGLY!

  • Can it subscribe to websites?like cnn or msnbc?

  • Know whats better than a kindle? Books.

  • why would books be better than the kindle2?

  • I got mine on the 24th, day after launch. I absolutely love it. So easy to take with me in my purse without extra weight of a hardback or bulkiness of a paperback. The slimness is nice and the esthetics is nicer than the original. Plan to use this for many years, or at least till they come up with a updated version that is even better.

  • Decent product. Horrible hands-on. Sideways, shakey, out of focus, and that wasn't really a "hands on," that was a "demo" from a rep.

  • What a clumsy presentation for a pro representative of Kindle!!

  • I almost couldn't bear to listen to her. Every word ended with an upward emphasis. It's like when someone types in all caps or something. I would have stopped her and asked her to talk like a normal person instead of...

Put the eggs in the BOWL! Then add MILK! A pinch of SALT! One teaspoon of VANILLA! Two cups of SUGAR!! And you are on your way to making COOKIES!!!

  • yeah COOKIES!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol, that made me laugh a LOT! =D

  • Ha ha! You nailed it.

She sounded annoying to me too but I couldn't exactly figure out what it was until I read your comment!

  • @charleslaine I feel like I know you. Like in another plane of existence or something.

  • tru dat.

  • @charleslaine

sounds like your making extra extra sugar cookies :P

  • @charleslaine well, we all know charleslaine needs to mature, lets guess his age...11?

  • I'm waiting for mine to come in the mail. Yay

  • too slow i prefer the sony reader

  • Mine is on order !

  • im just gonna give 5 stars

  • Wow that's amazing.
