I am American and I like the Japan. I own 2 Toyota's and love both of them and have had no issues. The issue is our government currently owns GM. They have a vested interest in making GM's number one competition look bad so Americans buy GM. The crazy thing is that Toyota recalls are not even a quarter the amount of total US car Manufacturer recalls.

i actually am quite impressed Toyota has gone this far. How many other Ceo's would do this voluntary, ah like none. A lot of what has conspired here is nothing more then lost in translation. My friend (in Canada) told me his 2008 Lexus accelerate pedal locked for few seconds in last year, and he didn't know what happen at that time. He just switch to N gear immediately, his reaction is smart and fast lol (imagine you are driving at 70km and it keeps accelerating in locked pedal, you may not be smart enough to switch to N gear in few seconds)

I am American and I like the Japan. I own 2 Toyota's and love both of them and have had no issues. The issue is our government currently owns GM. They have a vested interest in making GM's number one competition look bad so Americans buy GM. The crazy thing is that Toyota recalls are not even a quarter the amount of total US car Manufacturer recalls.

Now the "cheap" american cars are just shitty to begin with, and will always be shitty until you pay a decent price for them. I bought a ford escape and it's engine belt broke and gas pedal isn't smooth and it's under 50k kilometers.
I think a cheap toyota has non of these problems and is way more fuel efficient.

I own a 1995 Toyota Avalon XL...She has 234,XXX Mi. on it., never had a problem with the car!! My friends and I have beat the holy hell out of Tacoma's and regular 4X4's and they still run strong!!! Toyota is still my number one choice. Just think of the years and decades that toyota has been relied upon by most of the people worlwide. One lapse in judgment and many people already made nasty comments..

I work for Toyota Australia... because of this... our production has slowed down alot, but it doesn't matter, because i know this company can climb back to the top again, people are so quick to judge and crucify them, it's unbelieveable, no one wants to talk about Ford or GMs mistakes, bacause there American.... and you know what, i think this is a set up from the american government, why would all of this just suddenly happen when the economy is climbing back up...

It's so easy for the ignorant to say things like "fuck 'em", "keep cryin' ya cocksucker", etc., etc. But 172,000 Americans are employed by Toyota and put food on their familie's tables because of them. People need not forget that.
In some ways I feel for Mr. Toyoda. I believe his emotion is real. Keep in mind that he took over the company less than a year ago.

Im sure GM and Ford have paid quite a bit of money to the government / transportation safety board to grill this Mr. Toyota.. Ive had a close family member die due to a fault in the Chevy Cobalt, and there have also been quite a few more incidents.. I don't see the same happening to that company.. We have 4 cars, out one which 3 are toyotas, and 1 WAS a Cobalt..

If anything Toyota will become an even more dangerous brand in terms of it quality control as they take these kind of issues very seriously. It's a since of shame for letting it customers down. It they say they will fix the problem you can damn be assured that they intend to do exactly that. To bad other car manufacturers don't take this kinda of position.

i actually am quite impressed Toyota has gone this far. How many other Ceo's would do this voluntary, ah like none. A lot of what has conspired here is nothing more then lost in translation. Congress needs to take a course in intercultural communication as clearly they were misreading what Mr. Toyota was saying. Japanese typically are not very direct and tend to give vague answers but that is just part of the culture. It doesn't mean they are skirting around the question.

My friend (in Canada) told me his 2008 Lexus accelerate pedal locked for few seconds in last year, and he didn't know what happen at that time. He just switch to N gear immediately, his reaction is smart and fast lol (imagine you are driving at 70km and it keeps accelerating in locked pedal, you may not be smart enough to switch to N gear in few seconds)

2 Believe it or not, one of two people in this exchange is in JPN, is fluent in both Japanese and English, and has access to both news AND Toyota's own adverts announcing the recalls.
