@soulinme That's right. Remember the freedom riders? They were mostly white yet stood up for blacks who were persecuted in the segregated south. The truth is disability can happen to any of us. All it takes is a doctors signature and your rights are gone. The disabled are one of the few second class victim groups left in the country.We;ve made head way with the ADA but we have a long ways to go.

@05261896ec yes. community living is a humanright that they cant take away. A lot of these nursing homes are abusive many are run by private companies that care more about profiting from warehousing the elderly.

@wheelslarbac I don't know, have you met her in person? Who are you to judge a book by it's cover? Disabled doesn't mean the person can't do anything, but have limitations, or impairments that prohibit some or many major life activities. I have seizures in the past but I look like a 100 percent able bodied person. I can't drive due to lack of the neccessary motor skills. It sickens me when they build businesses and they don't make them 100% accessible by walking or wheeling.

ADAPT is a terrible organization. My class went up to D.C. to try and have a nice time and learn some stuff, but we we're interrupted by these nutcases. As we were trying to cross the street they just kep passing us, and finally when the sign said it was our turn, my teacher goes "ok, it's our turn now" and one of the cripples yells "our turn" in a rude and angry voice. Also while crossing the street, some cripple just zooms through and my teacher said something and he goes " I don't care".

I am disabled too.. People in society often look down on us because of something that is beyond our control... I want to see a major change in Society.. My mom was in one of those places for 2 weeks after surgery and she was MISEDRABLE.. Come join my page and feel fee to comment on what I find here...

I want to work but can't becase Job and Familt Services will rip my SSI from me if I make over a certian amount.. I hate feeling useless!

You can easily see the quality of ADAPT members. This is the same organization that urinated, yes urinated, all over the carpets of a Columbus, Ohio ststehouse. Hey charliwiza I am apart of this amazing thing. You dont need to talk shit about this, we are changing history by the day. We are proud to get arrested its like an honor. To get arrested is showing power to the people who will believe in CIVIL RIGHTS. You need to get a grip. I agree their are starving people in the world, but there are Nursing homes that I would not even put a dog into. I use to work for an ambulance co. doing transports and there are some pretty pitiful nursing homes out there and need to be closed. This is one our the main reason why I do private duty for the independent living.

That video was so powerful. I too have a Mother in that hell hole, Autumn Heights nursing home in Denver CO., That place is sooooo horrible. Can't get her out because she still has a few bucks left. We all need to be aware of what is going on in this country.

HOME is the right word , a nursing home is

much worse then Prison or Jail and they are

not nice places but better then a nursing home

where attendents abuse their patients, rape

them and sometimes murder them.
