  • DAMN I NEVER HEARD THIS SINGER!!! HE'S A VERY GOOD REPLACEMENT FOR DIO, BUT DIO IS ONE OF A KIND. RIP DIO:( WE MISS YOU.

  • Epic!

  • The singer is not dio is Doogie White

  • why do you ever believe rice and milk porridge is from norway, when its a swedish national dish, is a riddle to me. We serve it with cinnamon and sugar, and its delicious. A game from around 1700ish includes hiding an almond in the porridge, and whoever gets the almond gets a wish.

  • @TheWolvesCurse ...That´s not Dio....

  • alton towers!

  • The absolute greatest guitarist of all.

  • @oberfour1 Mr. Blackmore might be good, but DR. May might pip him.

  • God this is GOOD!

  • Raping a classic song.

  • Wow they actually sampled the main theme of the actual classical song.

Savatage just took the name. Something they like doing alot.

Hall of the Mountain King - Originally Edvard Grieg

    Jesus Saves - Slayer

Somewhere in Time - Iron Maiden

  • Whoever posted this. Is this available on CD?

  • i like the savatage song hall of the mountain king better.

  • It has to be Dio. This is first I've heard of this, and I'm 57. lol. Blackmore is awesome!

  • wow, hall of the mountain king in germany, reminds me of dead snow, although, its the other hall 0f te mountain king im thinking of

  • only a lifetime after Griegs death ... interesting

  • horrible...second stringers...blackmore's best was deep purple's first album...downhill from there on

  • @aubreyaardvark Do we talk of the same Ritchie Blackmore?!? I think he becomes better and better even today. Watch the Paris Moon videos by Blackmore's Night. Ritchies playing is just epic!

  • Savatage's Hall of the Mountain King is much better!

  • @SakkLunch Edvard Grieg's Hall of the Mountain King is much better than that one!

  • @I3ass0 I must agree with you there my friend!!!

  • Originally it was a music piece for the Pere Gynt suite by Edvard Grieg, a popular classical piece. It never had lyrics and doesn't need them but if it did these would be about as good as it gets but Ian Gillan would be better to sing this I think and more screaming and struting around like I'm the mountain king.

  • is that the same queer in dream theatre? sounds like em, can't stand his voice

  • I'm a proud Norwegian when i hear this! ^^

  • see Rumpelstiltskin jumpin round in his wicked circles ! :-)

  • great song great album/cd. great band : ]

  • Dio !!

  • @segitary I wish, Dio would have made this sound much more amazing than it already is. I think that's Doogie White singing.

  • there was this same video with greensleeves done before this song, anyone know what happend to it??

  • Its amazing!! i love this!! rainbow have been the best band ever!

  • its a great song from a great album!!!!!!applause to ritchie!!!

  • Jaja, kunne laget et bedre instrumentalt cover for denne sangen selv

  • Ritchie Blackmore was schooled extensively in classical music. It's also the music that is in Disney's Sorcerer's Apprentice

  • I think it could be a little better...

  • Awesome.

  • probably would sound better with Dio

  • Yeah! Grieg!!

  • moutain king aint belong to none of them its a clsical song creted a long time ago hahaha

  • You should have seen him play this in 1962 when in Lord Sutch's Savages!

  • Leave it to Blackmoore to do a class act on a class song nice job Rainbow.

  • So....are there three different songs called something like "Hall of the Mountain King" (Rainbow, Apocalyptica, Savatage)? Are they the same song? Actually, the Apocalyptica song sounds suspiciously like this one. Is there some relation? I am very confused.

  • acttualy the original song is a classical song written by Grieg. they do like rock versions of it.

  • I figured it was something like that. Thanks.

  • is the same song... "In the Hall of the Mountain King" is a piece of orchestral music composed by Edvard Grieg

  • The were all based on a piece of orchestral music, Opus 23, composed by Edvard Grieg for Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt.

  • no there all from this classic symphony by this man something greig i think it was.

  • LOL

  • @KirHARESETHgoesto11 they are the same song just done different each artist did there own cover.

  • Even God calls Ritchie Blackmore GOD !!!

  • TRAVIS THE MOOOOONSTAR...

  • You all spel his name wrong!!!

    It's RITCHIE BLACKMORE!

    Not Richie Blackmoore LOL.

  • A copioni......

  • nah thats not yngwie, looks like him though

  • is more like the other way around

  • fuck you and malmsteen, ignorant

  • nope... just richie blackmoore, one of the best guitarplayers evar

  • YES!!!!!

  • Im the king!!!!!

    rocks at 2:18

  • Love this song. Lovely voice of the singer and great instrumental!!! 5/5

+ this is from Edvard Grieg's song. In the hall of the mountain king, on norwegian: dovregubbens hall

  • Holy shit, the singer (name escapes me, any help?) must have been a MASSIVE influence on James LaBrie from Dream Theater!

    Nearly identical voices!

  • Dio?

  • No, that's not Dio. Doogie White is the singer's name.

  • yea i though he wasO_o same technique is used..

  • Right on DonQuixotec! And at about 2.18 they play a little piece from another of Griegs master compositions: Morgenstemmning aka Morning Mood.

  • if blackmore had no tallent..i'd hate him...grieg is one of my favorite composers..and blackmore is one of the best guitar players on earth...thanks for posting

  • For those of you who wanna know about this song: The original piece is actually made by a norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. And the original norwegian title would be "I Dovregubbens Hall" Dovregubbe does not translate into King. But "dovregubbe" is kinda typical norwegian fairy tale style of wording so I don't know how to translate it.

In Norway this song often is used in fairy tales involving trolls.

In the original classical song the main notes are played on a cello.

  • I guesss you have your facts striaght Haha.

  • Yep, that song is known by almost every norwegian person. You can't possible live through a childhood without hearing that song. Multiple times actually :) And it's been used in various norwegian commercials involving porridge. Porridge is a meal trolls often eat in our fairy tales.

Dude, I really sound like a nerd'O here, but no kidding most norwegians could tell you this haha. Please believe me!

  • I must be a nerd too because I thought that was verry interesting. thanks

  • Yeah, but you haven't mentioned a single word about "Peer Gynt" yet.

  • To be honest, I don't know much about him. I'd have to read about him, cause I don't remember. But what would be the point of that, when you can read it yourself? :D

  • Just worth saying that "Hall of the mountain King" is written as part of the "Soundtrack", so to speak, to the screenplay "Peer Gynt."

  • @DonQuixotec hah, maybe thats why hall of the mountain king is my favorite classical piece. I'm of Norwegian decent but raised in the USA. For some reason I just fell in love with the song at an early age.

  • @DonQuixotec you must also be Norwegian

  • @DonQuixotec Sant det ja! :-)

  • @DonQuixotec I am completely serious and not taking the mickey out of you. I really like that you shared that. I love knowing things about other cultures from mine. I think that that is wicked funny that trolls eat porridge!!

  • @DancesWithJoy One of the most known stories is where a famous norwegian fairy tale character gets threatened to be killed by a troll, and he challenges him for a porridge eating contest (it is known that the trolls can't say no to that). And the main character puts his backpack under his sweater on his stomach and when he eats he puts most of the porridge in the backpack instead of his mouth. So he wins, and the troll is so full of porridge that he is slow and sick, and he kills the troll haha!

  • @DonQuixotec Hi ! That is hilarious! I remember reading that story once. Have a nice day!

  • @DancesWithJoy You too, mate!

  • @DonQuixotec everybody knows this song...

  • @DonQuixotec and what is that Porridge ? I mean is it meat or what ? Or is it just mythical like ambrosia from grece ?

    Cheers :-)

  • @banished8910 Norwegian porridge is a special type of rice boiled in milk, until it is semi-solid. The rice expands and the milk thickens and it gets the consistency of rice pudding almost. Actually porridge is like warm rice pudding haha. And then we sprinkle sugar and cinnamon on top and have a "eye" of butter in the middle. I promise you, it's delicious. Porridge is also well known in England. Not just Norway.

You can also make oat porridge, wich is more healthy. Normal for breakfast.

  • Also, the original doesn't have any lyrics...

Dovregubbe consists of two words, "Dovre", a Norwegian mountain range, and "gubbe" meaning man. In this context, it means the "owner" of Dovre, so in that sense, Mountain King is not a bad translation.

  • Blackmore = God (greatest most influential guitarist ever), but man what was dougie doing near the end reaching up to the sky?? the whole song kinda tripped me out....maby i can sell the video to schoolkids who wanna know what an acid trip is like for some profit :)

  • The first time I heard this song was by ELO. Loved it. This is great. I never knew it had words to it until I bought the Stranger in Us All cd by Rainbow...fantastic version on cd. Ritchie Blackmore has always been one of my favorite guitar players if not my favorite.

  • I think you'll find it was composed by Edvard Grieg in the 1870s.

  • Thanks. I new it was an old traditional song played by the rockers ELO and Rainbow. I love that song in any shape. Used to hear it as a kid around Halloween.

  • I just thought of something, this goes back to the Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen! Norway rules!

  • blackmore forever

  • Wow yeah dio fucking rocks!!!

  • anybody know the guitar tabs of the song???

  • lol i never knew that this song had leryics

  • circus in stockholm the best sound ever

  • is fucking asom

    esta de putamadre

  • I think I agree

  • the lick in the chorus is the best man...dananananannanana

  • Wow, hes a great singer he is!

  • Damn. Posted that to the wrong video. LoL Oh well... see what weed does to your brain, kids?

  • 1st Time I've seen this

What can I say Ritchie Blackmore is KING!

  • quiet much?

  • this somewhat did ruin Edvard grieg's piece

  • Adding Ritchie Blackmore to anything only enhances it.

  • no not really, it just plays the melody and makes up other parts, just like jerry fucking c who ruined Johann Christoph Pachelbel's Canon in Dmajor

  • @yashil17 Ritchie can't hit a wrong note, or ruin any piece. I won't hear of it! ;)

  • Coupla things, 1. whats that black box under Ritchie's bridge (i can only guess wireless) and 2 where did you get this vid, love to have the whole gig on DVD, and CD.

  • its a synthesizer..im not too sure what it does, but it definitely makes him sound 10000% better than me

  • edvard grieg

  • Edward Grieg : )

  • no it's "EDVARD", he's Norwiegian. sorry i don't know how to spell it

  • Its NorwEgian;)

  • thanks

  • Edvard Grieg

  • it's my favourite song l guess song's riff and atacks are more different than 70s songs

    R A I N B O W is really colorful...

  • thats definetly white but dio is awesome aswell

  • no offense, but that CLEARLY isnt dio. dio had a much better, easier to recognise voice..

  • Yes, because it is Doogie White there

  • yeah i know. I was clearing up the argument that other people were having.

  • yeah i know. I was clearing up the argument that other people were having.

  • i'd better listen to original

  • the singer is great. He's worked with Yngwie as well and we all know that Yngwie is such a perfectionsist... I love this Rainbow almost as much as the Dio era...

  • metalfreak-notsomuch,

No, actually you're a stupid fag. It's not Dio. You can't be a "metalfreak" and not know that, so now you have to give up the name to someone who knows something about metal. Dickhead.

  • the singer's name:

    Doogie White.

  • what ever happened to Dio? i thought Rainbow broke up completly and never reunited when dio left?

  • Weeell....

    that's not the case obviously

and I never liked dio anyways

    as for that matter.

    doogie is/was great.-

I saw them live in Zurich's Volkshaus in '95.

  • Hahaha. Who's the dipshit Dio impersonator? The guy should get his own act!

  • Maybe it's because he is Dio?

  • No, it's not Dio.

  • Hell no.. this is Douglas White

  • Wow, too each their own but....this is just sad in my opinion. Hey, you guys that love this just have a listen to 4:28 into the song and tell me that doesnt suck.

  • Grieg kicks ASS!!!

  • The lot of you give up. This in this version is great. Love it as it was composed too.

  • its a great song

but it is wierd; peer gynt getting a troll pregnant then having to flee from her father.

such great music. Blackmoore i salute you

  • This song rocks! Love their interpretation of the Peer Gynt Suite. The singer is perfect for the song and he does NOT suck. I guess talentless morons like to post their opinions about others who have enough talent to actually make something of themselves. Doogie's a damn fine singer. Get a clue little ones & grow up.

  • This singer sucks nuts .

  • just because he's not dio, doesnt mean he sucks nuts.

  • dio rules!; isn't this joe lynn turner singing?

great orchesteral piece turned to a great rock song by the masters

  • singer is actually doogie white. this song is great, but it would be ten times better if the singer was dio

  • this singers got not energy. i think hes the most boring singer of rainbow

    ps dio ruleeeesssss!

  • They almost rock...could have done so much more w/ this song. Give Rob Zombie a crack at it & he'll Rock the Living Hell out of it.

The original classical piece actually rocks more than this version...hahaha! "E" for Effort? Eh... maybe an E-minus.

  • Dude where's Dio. This guys good but c'mon Ronnie James Dio is a rock god

  • Needs DIO

  • utterly fantastic... what a great rock tune... crank it up lol...

  • shit...where's the volume ?????????????

  • awsome

  • D: asdasdsad
