  • Really love this mod. Better yet, the latest version is optimized so it's under 100MB!

  • stanley is going mad

  • Fucking. Amazing. Everyone who hasn't checked this out already, do so. NOW!!! It is just that good.

  • After watching all of the walkthroughs, I have to say this mod is absolutely amazing, I was a little creeped out around the corners though, I thought something was going to jump out at me. XD

  • There's nothing to say about this mod. It's such a complete work, that it stands completely on its own, without any more to say, other than everything it leaves in you.

  • God, this was the best mod i ever played. Really. It's amazing and it made me think about a lot of things.

  • whats the music?

  • i cant tell if this mod is just some random, retarded thoughts or there's a deeper meaning. guess i'll never know.

  • @hexmeohdear wow. me too. The mod keept in my head for over 3 days.

  • I got 2 questions:

So, Mariella had important people to meet with? But earlier the narrator said that she got to work!

    and

So, in one of the endings Stanley screamed and died INTO the facility. How the hell his body got to the sidewalk? Teleportation? D:

  • @95Navigator 1. Her job probably involves meeting important people

    2. Do not understand. Self-destructing.

  • @95Navigator

Answer 1: In some jobs, you have the objective of meeting with "important people". Take music production, banking and so forth. There are many business-esque jobs that require this.

Answer 2: Stanley didn't die in the facility. The narrator simply said "And then everything went black". This suggests that he had passed out.

  • Sweet.

  • @TheUltraGnome you can get the Source SDK for free on Steam now, and that's all you need!

  • This mod is hilariously awesome. Seriously, if you haven't tried it, go out now and download it.

  • Reminded me of 'Stranger than fiction'

  • @morlinater

    Exactly!

  • BEST MOD EVER!

  • ‎"Aha, Perhaps you miss understood. Stanley walked trough the RED door ..."

"I still do not think we're communicating properly. Stanley walked through THE RED DOOR ...."

  • Whats the song at one of the endings?

  • @Atgood5 Dan Deacon - Pink Batman

  • i fucking love the ending if you everything the narrator says!

  • @Cakebread2 Why remake this? It's perfect the way it is.

You should use your talent on a new project.

  • Ive just bought a new computer so i can play this game.... it looks so awesome :O, isnt it alittle like Portal? where glAd0s dont want you to go there and stuff...

  • @TheUltraGnome Buy Half Life 2. It's a good game in itself.

  • I installed this game, had it running in terminal, walked away to get a drink, found my Mac had crashed. I brought up the Steam Library, Steam says that Source SDK 2007 is not available on the platform. Lol, Macs.

  • Stanley Stanley Stanley Stanley Stanley Stanley Stanley Stanley

  • Man, i can't believe in what i've just played. This is the most innovative thing that i've got my hands on in years! Just a new whole genre and gameplay style!

    OMFG!

  • Please continue to make more mods as good as this

  • this game is good. god damn fucking good.

  • Anyone happen to know what the name of the music track is in the trailer? It's really catchy.

  • I loved this game

  • whats the song name someone answer please?

  • In late-90s and early 2000s, you still had secrets/secret rooms/easter eggs, you still had "useless" NPCs talking about things not really needed for the game singleplayer experience, + "The Dev Team Thinks Of Everything" (tvtropes).

Nowadays, aside from hardcore indies, the devteam no longer have the time/money/motivation/audience for that kind of games.

I wish we had more games full of "what if" (yea, I hurd the Mass Effect games have boatload of decisions), not just some promises (Fable ftw)

  • @TheUltraGnome That's only if you're on Mac, if you're on PC you don't need HL2

  • @Cakebread2 apparently on version 1.3 one doesn't need HL2 or PC.... Is this true? Oh well, firefox says I'm going to find out in 14 mins...

  • Promise you this Mod is super deep and immersive recommend it so fuckin much! Please make a sequel...

  • was this a little creepy to anyone else?

  • I saw the beginning of a Let's Play of this on my friend's channel, it looks very interesting. I will definitely give this a try.

Also, the voice actor that plays the narrator is exceptional. Well done.

  • I encountered several endings but was never really impressed with the mod. The only "gameplay" consists of navigating simple, blocky environments, listening to a man give different dialogue according to the paths you take and whether or not you choose the ones he lays out for you. Perhaps I'm missing something or never took the "best" path that leads to the rest of the game? If not, it's an interesting idea for sure but incredibly boring and gimmicky at the same time. Meh.

  • @Chubzdoomer The dialogue explains itself. The gameplay is merely choices, but the magic lies in the story. You can't get mad at art, unless you're suppose to, or unless you don't understand.

  • @StupFag Well said. I guess I'm just one of those folks that doesn't find as much entertainment in this as a regular-style FPS experience.

  • @Chubzdoomer you may have missed the interaction between the narrator (controlling the narration and the environment) and the player (controlling the character).

People forgot how a game was about interactivity first.

If you look at video games from the last 10 years, interaction is disappearing : games/NPC/objectives/envs are shaped around yourself - we gained physics and graphics but lost interactivity. The Stanley Parable is the opposite : full interactivity.

  • @Chubzdoomer Everytime you make a choice, the entire game reacts to your behaviour, "like if" there was really someone controlling the story in real-time, or some extremely advanced AI. And interactivity is exactly that illusion of being in front of a real world, real narrator.

In 2000-2011 games, if I don't do the right thing, it's "GAME OVER... LOADING", if I do the right thing "CONGRATULATION !", if I do nothing, nothing happens. That's not what I call interactivity.

  • This is an amazing game. I haven't had that much fun and positive experience with a game in a long time. Job well done sir, job well done.

  • The beginning of this trailer reminded me so much of (500) Days Of Summer!

  • Whats the name of the song in the trailer?

  • Just got 2 endings, holy shit you are a genus! I'm playing it on a mac, using Lion which currently lags on source games, but still I enjoyed EVERY second of it. VALVe, look no further for your new employee!

  • downloading this shizz right naow, i think it'll be worth it <3

  • The creator(s) of this mod clearly watched Stranger than Fiction.

  • I click Start New Game and nothing happens.

  • @Brenderous That's the whole point of the game. Nothing happens.

  • @Cakebread2 No, because I've seen gameplay videos.

  • @Brenderous are you sure that wasn't....all in your head?

  • @Cakebread2 D:

  • @Cakebread2 you just blew my mind. i give you all the internets in the world

  • @Brenderous "Version 1.3 trims the file size down to under 300mb, and updates the readme for instructions on installing without HL2 as well as installing on Mac OS".. "updates the readme for instructions on installing without HL2 as well as installing on Mac OS".. "the readme for instructions on installing without HL2".."the readme"..."the readme".. READ IT!

    :)

  • @tossabaddle The problem I was having was with version 1.2 and I had Half-Life 2 installed. Version 1.3 worked just fine without having to read the readme.

  • @Brenderous the 1.3 version is less than onr week old? lol

  • I feel proud for being one of the first to play this. It is...quite great. I like it. Very.

  • how many endins are there?

  • Thumbs up for you sir.

  • Dan Deacon's Pink Batman. Nice.

  • I found the real ending using cheats!

[SPOILER] Just after the first "choice" you may go into an elevator room. The guy in your head will say that you took on yourself the task of punishing yourself, and went up the elevator. At that point you need to somehow find a way to get to the BOTTOM of the elevator shaft (the only way I've found to do that is using cheats) and from there on it's quite the mindfuck.

  • @TheYeIIowDucK You can do it without cheats! You just have to move your cursor over the button that goes down, not up, when you press e to button.

  • @BrianBerkDevtesla thing is, mod sometimes registers the button press wrong. or, to be more specific, it's rather hard to get the game know that you were facing the down button:) happened to me few times while i was exploring all the possibilities

  • @TheYeIIowDucK Or, you simply do the opposite of what he says. As you would have done the entire time to reach this point anyway.
