This is the kind of Old Gospel Singing and Music that I like!! I have no problem with the new stuff but there is something about this type of musc that gets me everytime.
My favorite version of this song is that of the late, Dr C J Johnson. But this man sounds great too. I'm a rocking and my foot is a tapping that's for sure. Sang!
@Oceanfloats AMEN! JOY UNSPEAKABLE & FULL OF GLORY! For the JOY OF THE LORD is our STRENGTH! TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY HONOUR & PRAISE,NOW & FOREVERMORE! JESUS----THE SAME TODAY, YESTERDAY & FOREVER! HALLELUJAH!
Azizip also remember the songs like these were used to teach the Bible. The rate of illiteracy was astronomical among blacks post slavery. These rhythmic tunes and words were just the thing to teach the Bible and get it in your heart.
These lyrics were undercover coded words for escaping slaves. Can you here them? It's an awesome way to praise God and get the hidden message across at the same time, blessings.
Great song!! I love Dr. Johnson's singing it too .That's also on YouTube. There are a lot of theories about coded messages in spirituals which may not be true. First of all, was this song composed before or after the end of slavery? Also tying to escape to freedom was VERY dangerous. You wouldn't want a lot of people to know about your plans. If every time a song was sung people left for freedom, that would give away the plan. Remember some Black people were loyal to their "slave masters".
Go Rev, Now this is the real Ole School Hymn. Yes Sa!!!!!!. I can remember the church all the saints clapping and it sounds so good. This took me way back when I was a child.Yes Sa!!!!!! Thank you Lord.
