  • NICE! I've been thinking about using this method of creating music. I make mostly hip hop and r&b so the music isnt THAT fast lol, but I still get your main point. Great video man! Thanks for opening my eyes to new ways of production.

  • hi man all ways love your vids . when jaming on 909 try to use the xternal instrement on the 909. then you can have a different bass line in each pattern much fun

watch the bass bins peace out .more vids please

  • nice man!!

  • I like the advice on how to get the flow going. I have been in a musical slump lately and I think I might try your method out. Nice equipment, by the way! You have what I have day dreamed about...

  • i wanna be on what he's on, - but he is right actually, arranging things in mpc song mode kills off the vibe half the time...

  • I love the song in the background !!

  • Yeah you can't go wrong with a Nord Lead!

  • What audio interface and type of computer are you using? I ask because I wanna know if I need a Mac to record my hardware in real time like you just did because that looks like a method I'd prefer to use with my outboard stuff.

  • I'm using a Firewire800 as the external card, and Nuendo to record 8 audio channels from the mixer.

    - 4 channels specifically for the 909 (using the ch. insert)

    - 4 channels for bus mixes of my other channels

So I route whatever gear I'm playing live at the time to 1 of 4 bus channels as: 2 stereo channels, or 4 mono channels or 1 stereo - 2 mono channels.

Depends on the sounds I'm using and how I want to group them into the software.

  • Computer wise I'm on a dual-core custom built PC. But you can do the same thing in Logic on a Mac. Just make sure you've got lots of ram and fast hard drives....

Also with Firewire soundcards, they don't like to share the channel with other firewire gear. (or so I've learned on my PC). The Fireface is using the firewire port directly on the motherboard, I have a second firewire card for the Powercore.

  • Cool man.

  • In the time it could take to program a track out via midi, it's possible to hammer out 3 different versions of the same couple of loops, and have lots of happy accidents that keep the track insteresting...

  • Definitely want the live feel in my stuff.

  • That's how I feel too. It's too much work to "program" that live feeling... when we've finally got the hardware to just record and edit later.

I treat my setup like a giant tape deck. usually after a couple of passes... the 'vibe' of the track comes out and i just hit record and do it. Sometimes with a bit of cut&paste editing. But mostly it's just straight to disk.

  • great video very informative thanks help me very much

  • I like you way of thinking about things here, good video!

  • keep it up
