So happy to see this, there is one month that I try to find the problem, I got this trouble just after they fixed my transmission (5sp) not sure where the crank sensor is located, I see one directly bolted on the tranny nere the flywheel, am I right?

About the cylinder miss: it's likely a faulty ignition coil. Do the good old fashioned "pulling-the-plug-from-the-coi­l-until-you-see-no-change" test. It works well. Testing with a multimeter could give you faulty results. Don't forget that any change you make needs to be followed up by computer reset or the computer will not accept the change.

Also, my 2000 max has the same starting problem. It is probably a bad ground somewhere. Either that or the crank sensor altogether.

the original parts last so long on a maxima that it becomes unreliable when you have to switch to remanufactured parts. putting in new parts is too expensive. my original starter lasted 250 k miles. i have gone through three since then.

this guy should drop the clutch and give the car some gas during startup. if it continues to fail to start, he should use fuel injector cleaner or dry gas.

this problem was solved nearly 3 years ago.

It was a grounding issue preventing the crank sensor from getting a clean signal, pretty common in 5spd swaps.

A remedy is to sand down the mating surfaces of the engine and trans before re-installation.

This video was taken after my 5spd swap, with the original 3.0.

When I put in the 3.5, the problems went away because I sanded the surfaces.

You probably have a vacuum leak. The excessive starting compensates for the leak. if you got all your gaskets and things checked it should be fine.

Ok, to clear up any and all misconceptions, this problem was after my 5spd swap. I noticed the car got progressively worse to start, especially in humid weather. The problem was with the ground from the trans to the engine. Apparently Nissan puts an amazing ground surface on the engine mating surfaces, and when you pop the trans off, it breaks that ground. To restore it, ANY TIME YOU REMOVE THE TRANS, you MUST sand down the mating surfaces before reinstallation.

I didn't find this out from a shop or heard about it somewhere, this is my personal experience with my car, and lots of maximas that i'v fixed with the same issue. It's a byproduct of having your starter on the trans instead of on the engine itself.

Classic symptoms of a bad fuel pressure regulator..And for those of you people that don't know about cars, please don't throw rubbish comments on youtube about Maximas or any other cars..They are one of the most reliable cars on the market..I've had my 1995 Max since new and never had a major issue..It now has 298000miles and still runnin like a champ..A pressure regulator can go bad on ANY make/model car.

Um, Toyotas are sooo overrated. Camry and Corrolla aren't exactly the best of the bunch either. Buty all jokes aside, it comes down to how well you take care of your car. I own a 1997 Maxima with 201k on it. Its been in my family since 1999. Great car and has taken good care of me. Proper care and the car will last you as long as want or until the engine just won't give anymore. Toyotas are no different. Now if we were talking about Ford.... well, thats a whole other story, right? ;)

Now while I do agree with you on just about everything you said Ford is the exact same boat. While many people have horror stories with Ford to be sure, many also have had great luck with them, and new Fords are rated right up their with Nissan and Toyota. So don't be like that with Ford.

I think everyones biased. Its just the people that are big enough to admit it. Or family has had two Nissan Max's. One with over 200K when we sold it (Still miss it) and the one we have currently is a 91 thats missing on one cylinder. Still trying to figure out just what is causing it.

If your under about 3,000 revs the front of the car shakes real bad, then it starts to smooth out. Other then that the engine performance isn't to bad.

OK listen up every one the starter is turning u can hear it if it was broke u wouldnt hear any thing when key is turned so not starter .... it is eather fuel or spark beacuse and engine needs air fuel and spark to work so inless u have a bird in ur intake then ur air is no prob i would check ur distributer cap and ur fuel pump beacuse its not likely all 6 fuel injectors failed at the same time but thats just me and im crazy lol so if u want more help or advice then just message me back lol

every maxima video on youtube ive seen has its airbag light blinking, particularly the 95-99 maxs'. even the air bag light on my 95 max blinks! does anybody know a solution to that problem?

I read recently that it's because the airbags are faulty and cannot inflate, so it blinks to alert the driver.

I have a 1997 Maxima. The manual says that if the light blinks while trying to start your car, there's something wrong with the airbag system. Nothing faulty, per se. The car is just telling you that if you get into a crash, the airbags will NOT inflate. So if you see it blinking, get that bad boy fixed!

Yeah. I went to the Nissan North America website and saw all the aspects of the car. I want that dual sunroof!!!! I have one on my 97 now, but that dual is awesome. I like them obviously. =)! But I am seriously considering getting that car by at least the end of the year or sometime in 2010.

Hi guys, i posted here before, thanks tavarish for responding and yes it was a grounding prob. The negative(-) wire from battery had a bad connection surface on the tranny. Drill, re-tap and voila! Should make a vid of how good it is now!! Thanks for sharing and enjoy ur MaxXx

This is a infrequent but long term problem that nissan has had. every once and a while the ignition system will forget to tell the fuel pump to send gas when starting. The dealer (3 different ones) all said the same thing. It goes against everything we have been told.  keep craning with no gas pedal play for 10 - 15 seconds. in no spark release and wait 15 secs for the starter to cool and do it again. repeat till started or until the fifth time.
