  • Sweet Willowdale

  • 1 Person couldn't learn to RESIST the dislike button :(

  • god damnit, i can't stop listening to this. so good.

  • All musicians must genuflect whenever Alex, Geddy and Neil walk by.

  • How are this band jus a "guy band" it baffles me

  • Is it wrong if i not only tear up to this song but get a roaring stiffy at the same time?

  • @skat4evr9 What so it hurts to get a stiffy...are you circumcized???

  • Was actually thinking the other day that Rush should do an Unplugged kind of thing. It'd be awesome to hear the songs bare and probably show just how powerful they are.

  • Words cant describe these guys. Legends, not just in music but in the history of man.

  • I wish Rush would do more acoustic stuff like this in their concerts.

  • this is why i learned guitar, but geddy makes me laugh with his strumming style.

  • @BitchBeTrollinHard If Alex ever decides to perform bass on a live song I wonder if we'd say "makes me laugh with his plucking style" ;)

  • I love this song! I love it even more acoustic and libe

  • One guy can't Resist

  • as much as i love the heavy stuff they write, i would love if they did an album with songs like this and hope(instramental)

  • who honestly dislikes this...? I mean really? it's Rush, man.

  • AND THE TRUTH SHALL SET US FREE

  • This song made me wanna cry. Resist is one of the Strongest songs by Rush!

  • R R HOF IS A JOKE NO RUSH NO KISS ,THATS JUST B.S. CALL IT LIKE YOU SEE IT JOKE,JOKE JOKE.......

  • @eaglebowwer rush or kiss hasn't really revoulutionized music in a large scale way like mettallica has or U2(hate them btw). alot of great artists havent gotten in like the allman brothers.

  • Comment removed

  • @rushsps250 I agree that Kiss hasn't but you've gotta be fucking nutso of you don't think Rush has influenced music. What their documentary, so many musicians were influenced by them. Metallica was born because of Rush you dipshit, without Rush, Kirk Hammet would have never learned how to play the guitar. He says it himself.

  • lol i love seeing Geddy play guitar

  • perfeito!

  • Greatest duo of string pluckers on the planet

  • being 15 i am surrounded by all of todays "popular" or "cool" music, ill give it to them, some BANDS (not those stupid autotuned artists) are pretty good and talented, nobody listens for talent anymore. and talent? yeah, rush definitely has it...

    LONG LIVE TRUE MUSIC

  • I got chills.

  • My friend knows my love for Rush, but she hates them. I made her listen to this song; she said she liked the guitar but hated Geddy's voice. I told her to kill herself. Lol.

  • @rhusnhx LMAO awesome.

  • you can tell that geddy is a bass god by his guitar style > :D

    or just a general supergod

  • How could somebody dislike this??

  • @EvilDemonKidGuyMan Someone just couldn't learn to resist anything but temptation. They couldn't learn to co-exist with anything but pain. They couldn't learn to compromise anything but their desires. Most importantly, they couldn't learn to get along with anything they couldn't explain.

  • I actually love this, so much.

  • Beautiful

  • I'm so glad I lived in a time in history when Rush was around. A Masterpiece !

  • I think Geddy has the perfect voice for acoustic songs.

  • POWERFUL lyrics. God bless Neil Peart.

  • Still brings tears to my eyes, amazing

  • notice how the crowd is too fucking dumb to shut up and listen to art?

  • @sketchyfolk Yeah, but this is Rush so even a down tempo acoustic song from them'll make you freak out. Don't deny that you'd scream like a little girl if you were there too man. We all would.

  • I had dinner with these bastards..nice group of guys

  • RUSH THE BEST BAND IN THE LAND

  • @rush211242 Idem

  • Alex is only underrated buy non-players.

  • @mst2112 - I so totally agree. Guitar players would NEVER underestimate Alex. In most bands there are two guitar players - rhythym and lead. In Rush there is only one - who sounds like two or more. He's a master at switching between rhythym and lead, chords, the whammy bar, etc. HE IS EPIC!

  • such a great choice for an acoustic cover!omg eargasm everytime i hear it! :D long live RUSH

  • They should have put this on R30 instead of the version thats their this is fantastic!

  • Geddy with a guitar seems wierd lol

  • "I could learn to compromise, anything but my desires"

    That is POWERFUL!

Since the first time i heard this song that phrase REAAAALLY impacted me.. Neil Peart is a God! I don't have the words to express the level of greatness this consumated musicians are in.. nor i have the words to express my love for this 3 individuals. They're just unarguably great.. it's just something i can't explain.

I guess that's just the Rush effect on me..

  • How can you NOT induct this trio into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame?

Such a teriffic song and band!

  • One of my favorite songs >.>, I need to learn it for guitar! ...Better start practicing again hehe. I love Rush's music and the messages their songs bring and how it hits you ^.^. They been touring longer than I've been on this earth and still havn't been inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame... WHY?! We should start our own hall of fame of great musicians =o, fuck the guys that run it (The rock n roll hall of fame that is)!

  • @Alindae11288 I agree...RUSH is beyond the hall of fame, the best band on the planet for rock music, in my opinion...the songs all tell a story and touch you down deep... Just for instance; lest we not forget "Everyday Glory"... "Hope"... "Cold Fire"... "The Color of Right".. "Bravado" ....I could go on not even touching the surface of spectrum of music RUSH has offered to their fans..

  • .....who cares about the rock n roll hall of fame . Rush was , still is and always will be inducted in our hearts . that is the place they have all always been in and that is exactly where they ll stay .....forever in our hearts . they are simply great and someone ... someday will give them the recognition they truly deserve .

  • @brilaf01 They are in several hall's of fame, have received the Order of Canada and recently enshrined in the UK...so there not in the U S shit hole...why because they don't compromise to the ignorant...so fuck the ignorant!!

  • @MrKeon1414 they are being inducted into the song wirtershall of fame I belive

  • I mean wtf!?LL Cool J is nominated and Rush isn't, fuck the RRHOF seriously....

  • This totally kicks the ass of the studio version.

  • VOTE THIS UP IF IT ANGERS YOU THAT RUSH HAS STILL NOT BEEN INDICTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME!

  • @JungleScene I thumbed up because spelling errors anger me.... almost as much as caps lock argh!

  • @JungleScene who cares they are much more than that

  • @JungleScene it's a travesty that they are not only yet to be inducted, but that they don't have their own separate wing!!!!!

  • @JungleScene Rush are way too awesome to be in a "rock and roll" hall of fame..

  • @JungleScene If you had said inducted I would've. However, how does one get indicted into the

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?

  • @lokibloo well, for starters, you must prove to the R+R hall of fame that missing the U and hitting the I key is only a matter of 1 centimeter. If they accept your proposal, then you will be "indicted" to the hall of fame. pretty simple really.

  • In a trip to Uk I listened to Rush for the first time (Reading, 1980) and I was astonished. Since then I've been a great fan of them. For me it is one of the best bands in the history, for the spirit of their lyrics and music, for that nice combination of melody and rhythm, for their quality of sound and, though it was not necessary, also for their human quality. I never saw them on stage, what a shame. Very nice acoustic version!! Thank you Rollthefemers!!!

  • Had to put this on my Favorites list. I love this song and it's very powerful played in this fashion. I love seeing the different playing styles - Geddy plays in much the same way as he does the bass and Alex.... well, Alex is just the best. BTW, I'm *cough* over 50 and female and have loved Rush since about 1980 (pre-Moving PIctures, though- so I get props for that LOL).

  • I wrote the rock n roll hall of fame and asked them why rush was not there..they told me a bunch of shit!1 ooh they don't project meaning full messages and some other crap ..well needless to say I tore the guy a new asswhole and dared him to compare their talent to any of the worthless rapers that they inducted into the their shithole hall of fame!!! or any one else for that matter!! RUSH!!!!!

  • *Kahme watches and listens contentedly as Geddy sings*

    I think I'm love... <3

  • They should add Tears to the set list, they never play that song.

  • some quality wood being played there! Love the Taylor Geddy is playing!

  • One of my all time favorite Rush songs... I am only 19 years old and I love every single Rush song! They are a band that can appeal to all ages.. I love all 3 of them.. Seeing them in concert is just so surreal, every single time limelight makes me cry idk why lol

  • @ladielucks Just goes to show how universal Rush is. I've been a fan since around 1980, I'm 44 yrs old now. That a 19 yr. old and a 44 yr. old can love the same band, and that band being Rush, which isn't your typical commercial band is in my opinion amazing. Keep listening and enjoy forever!!

  • Indeed! I can!

  • @bllpg9 they are equal.

  • @Philosnav haah no, rush is the best. it was my friend, hes a brit and loves queen

  • I SAW THEM

  • @cagwa WTF? Um no, you stay in your seat and love every minute of it.

  • @cagwa Bullshit!!!

  • @cagwa id just piss myself. I saw Rush front row in July i dont think i blinked once.

  • amazing :)!!!! Thanks:)

  • amazing, underated, incredible. greatest band ever

  • hehehehe absolutely brilliant. Rush are the best

  • would love to see the movie just released.

  • So awesome!So deep!!!!

  • Bought this CD just before boarding a flight from Philly to Seattle in 1996 - my first flight. I rented a car and drove up into British Columbia where the majesticness of this album seemed to bounce off the walls of the Fraser River Canyon north of Hope, BC.

  • @Triplecenturies An epic drive isn't it! My uncle has been driving big rigs on that route for years and he says it still gets to him! You might appreciate my vid entitled "Vancouver to Smithers slideshow, BC, Canada, 22 Dec 07" :)

  • Just good stuff, that is all.

  • I LOVE the intensity in Geddes face during this song ... and I LOVE when Alex makes his 'faces' when he is getting into one of his solos ;p) I LOVE to see them LOVE what they are doing and I LOVE when we get to see it !!!

I LOVE when Alex has hair on his face ;)

  • I LOVE the intensity in Geddes face during this song ... and I LOVE when Alex makes his 'faces' when he is getting into one of his solos ;p) I LOVE to see them LOVE what they are doing and I LOVE when we get to see it !!!

  • oh ya!!!

  • These guys are simlpy amazing. Whether they're rockin', or playing a stipped song such as this one. There skills as musicians are incredible. I can't think of anyone who sings, plays the keys, bass, & pedals like Geddy does. Alex is one of the best guitarist' in tmusic. Neil Peart is arguably the best drummer of all time (alive or deceased). Year after year they're one of biggest concert draws in the world, & album after album they release excellent, high quality music.

  • Comment removed

  • Alex is underrated because he's modest. Prefers to be in the background.

  • @Musicmaker68 He is still awesome and very talented.

  • I love Rush this song turns me on!

  • WOW!!!! Rush is amazing!

  • this si just one of those songs that touches the heart.

  • you can't surrender w/o a pray

    but never really pray

    pray w/o surrneder

  • the last few dozen views have probably been from me :P..this is and will remain as one of greatest songs out there..its so powerful and has absolutely beautiful lyrics...i've just recently discovered the glorious-ness that is Rush and I can honestly say that are now becoming my favourite band by a longshot!!!

  • I totally agree, its really something, it is indeed very moving. The studio version is great but this acoustic adaptation is beyond words. Ill never forget the first time I saw them do this in concert, I was stuned. It always came after peart's drum solo, so he could catch his breath. Its awesome discovering rush, my older bro got me hooked on it. You should check out more rush, they put out quite a few albums since early 70s. They are simply amazing. Often they do better live, which is rare

  • Rush is the greatest band in the world period. I love all of them, and just about all of their songs, i hope they never stop touring. this is such a powerful song, i get goose bumps. and there is so much more i could say about them. LONG LIVE RUSH

  • has geddy ever used a pick ever

  • On the R30 dvd, you can see him using a pick for Heart Full of Soul straight after this masterpiece.

  • 【You can fight,

    Fight without ever winning;

    But never ever win,

    Win without a fight.】

    ♪ ♥

  • Wow what a relaxing song . Thanks for posting ...........Thx Rush for creating such a Masterpiece

  • Geddy, you are my hero.

  • Listen to Alex's strumming, and Geddy, look at the way how he plays the guitar... masters, truly masters.

  • RUSH ARE LEGENDS

  • was this the r30 tour in Germany or in the U.S.?

  • "Rush playing at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, on August 18, 2004, as part of their 30th Anniversary tour."

    Learn to read the description.

  • Why is Alex such an underrated guitarist?? Just looking at this shows how amazing at guitar he is!

A beautiful song, i love Rush!

  • People always talk about their death metal bands and how those guitarists are the best... But really it's just a bunch of chords that sound like trash... Lifeson's solos aren't pieces of shit, they actually sound good... He's the bridge between the classics and modern rock and he is simply the greatest

  • Most people see guitarists out of bands that just strum about 2 chords during the whole song as 'god' just because the band is well known. Since im 14, me and my twin are the only ones who like Rush in my school but i dont give a shit what people thing cos Rush is just amazing and the most talented band ever!

  • Last night on Palladia they aired the R30 tour... This song just made me smile to no end it's so amazing... They're such great performers too because they're not just playing to make the big money (haha rush reference), but they're also just having fun

  • Good to know that there are young people like yourself out there that can understand and appreciate Rush. They are true role models and inspiration for young bands and musicians. (and everyone else too!)

  • As a big fan of death metal, and a bigger fan of Rush, I'm going to have to disagree. There are many death metal guitarists that are able to play great solos and riffs, like Trey Azagthoth and the late Chuck Schuldiner. True, there are many death metal solos that sound "noisy", but that's due to the atonal nature of the music (most of the time, at least). But "a bunch of chords", it isn't. Unless you're thinking of watered-down deathcore like Suicide Silence, which isn't even death metal.

  • because niel pert and geddy are the the greatest bass/drum players and people focuse on them. but he probly is in the top 15 guitarist

  • @MastaOfTheBass ya but if he is probly in the top5 for guitar soloists... if thats even a word.

  • ya he's under rated but i can name more than 5 people better maybe 11 in the world

  • @EMBOBZ2112

    Who said he was underrated?

  • @EMBOBZ2112 Totally and utterly agree. I always state Mr Lifeson's in my list of guitarist of favs

    Lynn From Scotland

  • @EMBOBZ2112 The talent is the reason. Alex plays with 2 of the most recognized greats of their instruments. most bands thats the guitarist. Considering they have one of the best in bass and drums. He is far overshadowed. Alex is probably one of the best there is, no matter who says what. Def my fav guitarist.

  • @jemmani22:

I couldn't agree more...I don't think I ever heard a sloppy or bad live performance from them. They are true professionals. Alex is a great guitarist...one of my all time favorites. What else can be said about Geddy and Neil that their music hasn't already. "TheRushBravado" made a good point that Alex is the only giutarist and plays both rhythm and lead like there are 2 people. They fill the stadium with sound.

  • @EMBOBZ2112 Why is alex such an underrated guitarist? Because rush doesn't sing about girls shak'n their asses.

  • @dvdfrnzwbr Rush doesnt do that because thats not what real music is man. Is embarasing for me to grow up know, music is all about bangin some hooker doin drugs or wanting to be rich. this music here^ is fealing and comes from the heart and mind not the head under yur belt.

  • Amazing. I just saw this last night on VH1 classic rock. Neil Peart had just finished the simply stunning "Der Trommler" drum solo which took my speech away and I was awe-struck at how technically skilled Neil Peart is. And then Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson come out with this beautiful song which inspires such beauty in a person. 5 stars all the way :D

  • I wish bands like rush would come to utah. Unfortunately me and my family are probably the only fans.

  • Such a powerful song!

    Love Rush!!!!

  • PLEASE come to New Zealand!

Even though I'm probably your only fan here...

  • I can't wait for them to tour again. They were amazing on the Snakes and Arrows tour!

  • I saw them on the Snakes and Arrows tour in Hershey, PA. It was an outdoor concert in the middle of July. Everyone was sweating their asses off. They started to play this song and it just poured. The best (of many) Rush shows I've ever seen.

  • I have a question. Do the lyrics go:

"You can surrender without a prayer, but never really pray without surrender."

    or

"You can surrender without a prayer, but never really pray. Pray without surrender."

And what exactly does the lyric mean?

  • I think It means that you can give up without even having any hopes, but it's better to keep going while hoping for something good.

I also think the song is about human nature and about perseverance.

  • Its the second one.

And really music can be like poetry, it has different meanings for each person.

I like to think of it like this: "You can surrender without a prayer, but never really pray": You can give up without having any chances, and never have hope anyways....

"Pray without surrender": You can always have Hope without having to give up.

  • you're right on, it will mean different things to different people. To me it's like the line in the U2's song: "If you wanna kiss the sky/better learn how to kneel/(on your knees boy!)". While you can pray without surrendering your selfish desires ("please God let ME win"), it's not REAL prayer. Real prayer means completely surrender yourself to a higher power (God, Allah, The Universe, whatever). It's a Buddhist concept, and it's beautiful. Someday maybe I'll be able to pull it off.

  • ...and for those non-religious types feel free to substitute the word "meditate" for "prayer", which is probably closer to his real intent, but it screws up the lyrical patter :)

  • and your point?

  • I think it means that you cannot pray without surrendering yourself to whichever god you worship.

    or it could mean

You can surrender without praying for mercy but you cannot pray for mercy without surrendering.

  • We Love RUSH , no matter what they play

  • Dla mnie wielcy ! ! !

  • I think now, after Neil's crazy solo Alex plays Hope, on his 12 -string

At least thats what they did when they played in Ottawa during the Snakes and Arrows tour. Too bad, I was looking forward to hearing this song live :(

  • you know what that makes a good uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • then again I like to mellow out to this

  • Geddy is such a underrated singer.

  • That`s true, but he`s awesome, unique and great onstage.

  • I think they always do this song right after Neals amazing like 7 minute drum solo.

  • Correction: 8:00-9:00 minute Drum Solo.

  • Hahaha

  • I think now after Neil's crazy solos Alex usually does that guitar solo thingy from the Snakes and Arrows album, at least that's what they did in Ottawa during the Snakes and Arrows tour

  • They did this twice when I saw them in 2002 (July 12, 2002) and then in 2004 (August 12, 2004 at Tweeter Center, Mansfield, MA (second best Rush show I went to after June 23, 1997 at same venue which that gig's "2112" performance went on Different Stages)). The 2004 performances of "Resist" was more powerful acoustic than on Rush in Rio. I saw them a week before this performance and Rush were phenomenal as always.

  • Yes they do very well at planning out their show sets.

  • oh my rush will never die out such a timeless group i love them.

  • i fucking love this song:)

  • i wonder where neil is during this

  • warming up for his epic drum solo

  • this is after obaterista. he is probably resting thats why he isnt playing. i just wonder if he is still sitting in his drumming spot or somewhere else

  • he has a chair behind geddys setup

  • this was right after his epic solo

  • In the documentary from the Rush in Rio DVD called ``The Boys in Brazil``, Neil explains that he prefer to sit in the dark for a while and let Alex and Geddy play just the two of them. Even Alex propose the idea of adding some percussion to Neil but he rejected it.

  • rush is like zeppelin...both are gods gift to the people

  • Neil Peart most underrated lyricist ever. I cry at many of his marvels.
