looks pretty damn awesome to me. on the 'safety' argument, u can wear as much or little protection as you want, but spare a thought for the ambo's who have to clean up accident scenes... but here's hopin that we don't have too many more stupid regulations that make life a drag. keep it safe bro' and u can do this into your retirement! well done.
My wish is that a manufacturer adopt the concept and develop a specific gear. Then I could practice parakiting with the same amount of risk than speedflying !
As far as helmet and protectors, please consider that I fly at low height over sand dunes. In our activity, we have still the freedom to adapt our safety means to the surroundings and to our practice. I assume the risk to fly in these specifics conditions without a helmet, just like I assume the risk to fly under a nylon wing as whole.
I must point out that it's not a standard kitesurf any more because the attachments and the control system are reinforced ("fail safe" design).
But why not flying with a standard paraglider? Because flying this gear offers a new experience, like gliding full speed on the sand and on the water ! Moreover, the glide feeling in the air is much greater than with my paraglider (Aspen2).
I practice paragliding for 20 years, and I can assure that the flight behavior of this canopy is safer than most of standards paragliders (collapse proof and stall proof behavior, great stability despite its low surface,...).
BUT YES flying with this gear remain a bit risky, but only because it is a prototype. It is not more risky to fly with this gear than to fly with a home made paraglider.
this looks fun but when a line breaks or a gust or updrafh hits and you get lofted tell the doctors you were paragliding not kiteboarding. this guy knows what he is doing and makes it look easy but it is not. Anyway, this guy is fucking crazy dont try this with you kite setup you will die or worse get kiteboarding band.
That's a great testament of how Flysurfer kites are built to paraglider aviation standard. You would never do this with an inflatable kite.
Just a note, you need to wear a helmet if you plan to distribute this media. This blatant disregard for safety is a terrible example for others. I give a rat's A for your personal preferences. Keep this stupid stuff to yourself. Otherwise, awesome demo! Thanks. :)
But I guess you have a sufficient balls protector.
Personaly I think this is a good vid, and one where a helmet would make little diffrence in 'survivability', but then I've 'only' flown over 4,000 hrs paragliding, much of that not wearing a helmet!
My opinion (I've been teaching for 10 yrs) is the 'stupid stuff' is the ('normal') training that generates the appaling accident rates which mean pilots have to hope that having some (LIMITED) passive safety (helmets etc.) MIGHT... save their life every time they crash!
Xid3d, so you don't care about personal preference? Well a lot of people do! I don't want to be told by anyone I have to wear a helmet, especially you! I doubt a helmet would do much on sand dunes anyway. Do everyone a favor any just worry about yourself and don't try to police things you have no right to. Tool
Yes I do have a right to discourage Tools like you to make a bad example to new people to the sport. When you people do nothing to minimize injuries and end up with brain damage and fatalities, sports get banned and regulated.
Also, who do think has to pay for your brain surgery when your heath benefits run out. We do! I don't care if you need to verify Darwin's law, but do it in private.
It's strange how this sport seems to attract two types of people. One type that simply likes to fly and have fun. Another that is more interested in stopping people from having fun, talking about what people can't and shouldn't do, etc.
I will happily continue to wear a helmet when I feel I need to (most of the time when pg, e.g. normal soaring, XC, acro and speed flying). Sometime at the beach I will even wear a helmet if there is rocks, a fence or something else hard behind the dune. But when it is nice 'dune pla' on a nice safe sandy dune I will continue to enjoy myself wearing no shoes, short and no helmet.
Thankfully I won't have to worry about listening to you wining like a baby about my 'poor example to others' as most likely you will be busy at home busy doing you 'god given task' of guiding and protecting poor, easily influenced youtube viewer.
I love paragliding and speedflying. All I will say is that kite has a huge aspect ratio and with that line length it's a very sketchy setup to soar (paraglide). At 2mins in you can see the problems long lines cause.
is it possible that the lines are twisted and he is in a harness?
i twist my lines all the time to sit in a more pg like position when i come off a dune in a pendulum jump. Like when i launch my lines are hooked up backwards i do a pendulum jump, and i turn to ride it down. And it is not a speedwing, speedwings are like 10m. It is on short lines and especially because of the connection style my guess is that he is trying to emulate a PG. But i am fairly certain it is a kite
correct me if I am wrong but kite ??? The pilot at 1.44 is clearly in a seat and facing the same way as the "kite". Makes it a paraglider or worst case speed glider surely ? I glide and kite but never seen anthing like that called a kite ? Correcvt me if you wish
I have this exact speed, it must be the "jet flaps" but this kite seems to be an" extraordinarily precise" flying machine; provided by this
demonstrative soaring video.

list of things to do 1 get a smaller kite 2learn how to fly in the window
3 get other people to realize their is no need to have 17 metres of kite:]
mxkiter24 2 years ago
1 its parakiting ya fool, try doing that with a small kite
2 again its parakiting no need to focus on the window as much as kiteboarding
3 maybe focus on getting 3 friends before trying to slam other people doing stuff that you woudn't!!

I would wear a helmet and a protector on the seat for additional safety.

they have places like this in san diego, california, except as mentioned before, you have to have the right paragliding equipment.

this is kinda funny. i wanna try this but. im big. 280 pounds! what size kite would i need?
1978rm125 3 years ago
Hi
the problem is that you'll need at least a 26m^2 flat size kite to have the same sink rate than I ! (I'm half your weight)
sorry !

I kitesurf and paraglide and your kite is not designed for this, although its fun you could die! Just get a paraglider and lessons!
Fuel9m 4 years ago
is that actually a kite surfing kite or not?? it looks more like a paraglider
masterkiter89 4 years ago
yes it is realy a standard kitesurf wing.
I have just shorten the lines (12m), removed the standard control bar and connected the wing to the pilot with a special bar (look at 1:45).
This special bar allows a kind of hybridation between kite and paraglider, and the aerodynamic efficiency of this kitesurf wing do the rest.
flyingcloclo 4 years ago
More like a parasail hes using as a kite. Flysurfers are all built to paraglider standards now. you just need the harness
