  • thank you sooo much those are beautiful can't wait to get some borax loll

    hearts4bingoo

  • @hearts4bingoo I'm glad you liked them.. They really do come out well for being so simple to make. I was excited to use them to make terrain because I had never seen anyone else ever do them like that for crystal terrain. There are endless possibilities and variations to the setting you want to create with them. I will do some more vids as soon as I can. Our home burned down with the brush fires here in Texas. Will be back as soon as I can

  • Well done, great looking job.

  • @hollandianova Thanks so much. I was pretty proud of how those came out.. Unfortunately we have had a major catastrohy in the last two weeks. Brushfires here in Texas on Labor Day took our home. We lost everything we ever owned and my wife and kids were lucky to escape. Just like everything else I'm having to replace, I'll have to eventually make some more of these.

Thanks for your comment. It's greatly appreciated.

    ~Jim

  • @jimeronimo

Sorry to hear about the fire, coming from Sydney (Aust) I am well aware of the danger of bush fires. Glad to hear you are all okay.

    Regards,

    Craig.

  • @hollandianova thanks Pardner. Take care

  • Amazing! extraordinarily creative idea.

  • @epicfantasy Thanks Will. I figured you'd appreciate it given all the different things you're into.. LOL

  • Love your project. The final products are beautiful. I really enjoy how you've used inexpensive items and science to make terrain. I do have a question. Is there a ratio you would suggest for color gel : water? What about liquid food coloring? Do any colors need more dye than the other? I imagine yellow needs more dye to make it yellow, otherwise it's a faded yellow color. Job well done.

    V/R

    Tim

  • @Wahliby Hiya Tim! GLAD you liked them. They really are simple and easy to make and the results are awesome.. As for the final product? The possibilities are endless.

Getting to your questions. As for any kind of ratio for the gel food color. There really wasn't one. I just knew that I wanted the Blue to show up well so I put a bunch in. Probably half the bottle.LOL Some colors do need more BUT the real secret to most of the color is the color of the pipe cleaners. Some are better w/o the gel

  • what an awsome idea! how durable/hard are those? do you think it is possible to put a mini on top of such a crystal? thanks :)

  • @PatrazhTT Glad you liked it.. ABSOLUTELY Possible to place a mini using the crystals as part of a base display... They are very durable.. AND if you drop them like I have unfortunately, the pipe cleaner inside acts like a shock absorber.. Some of the crystals might break off or the piece might lose it's rigidity but it's nothing a touch of super glue or well hidden hot glue can't fix!

  • @jimeronimo thanks for the quick answer! i'll certainly try that asap :)

  • That's awesome! I want to do some green ones for my skaven minis

  • @saggyrectum Go for it. Let me know how it comes out. I actually planned to do a green set of them too as well as some other new colors I found but haven't yet.. Hope to do them soon myself..

  • brilliant!

  • @archaeolas Thanks bud. Glad you liked them.. Have been "planning" to do one more vid of them with some variations of color, etc and then move on to some other ideas... Life has just been a bit busy as of late though.

  • @jimeronimo id be interested to see more! i guess the crystals form like they do because of the surface area on the pipe cleaners? but im wondering how they would form on something like a miniature if you were to try a 'fly trapped in amber' kind of thing!

  • Gorgeous crystal creations, I like these more than molded plastic shapes painted to resemble crystal... these will just make winter themed terrain look awesome. This is the type of thing that make games so memorable, beautiful terrain.

  • @Lostsoul1889 Thanks so much! Glad you liked them. I'll be doing some more variations soon along with some other original ideas I've been working on for awhile if you happen to subscribe :o)

  • looks very good. Thanks for sharing.

  • @Tinky68 Glad you liked them! Thanks for watching!

  • @Tinky68 Thanks. Appreciate it.. They're fun to make and each one is different in it's own way.. So many possibilities for them.

  • Those turned out great!!! I really love them. The base looks like slate, I can't believe it's just foam board. I am definitely going to have to try this!

  • @tigerandroseshow Thanks alot! Glad you liked them. For the first crack at it I thought they came out pretty well too. The possibilities to finish the bases out are endless really. Leave them as they are, dry brush with some other colors, Texture and paint, Other rock & ballast colors, etc. If haven't subbed yet, I'm going to do one more vid on them just to show some other colors and options and then I'm moving on to some other great ideas I've been cooking up too long also.. Thanks again. Jim

  • awesome crystals

  • @PhoenixPainter Thanks alot. One more vid coming with some other colors and variations and then on to some other cool ideas I have. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :o)

  • @PhoenixPainter Sorry for getting back to you a little late... Thank you so much.. Glad you liked them.. If you make your own or do something better with them.. Share with everyone a response vid :o) Take care. ~Jim

  • Sooooo beautiful!!!!!! ^_^

  • @Sirenakatie Wow. Thanks. Glad you liked them. Will be doing 1 more video of them coming soon with other colors and examples...Then will move on to some other great Ideas I have been planning

  • awesomeeeeee!!!!!!!

  • @paintingismylife Thanks so much.. Glad you liked it!

  • This is a really cool idea! The shape and colors are really cool, I geuss you would just paint the basing material like a normal mini? Also I wonder what would happen if you wanted to crystalize a whole mini, like a space marine or something??

  • @Xtil Hey Thanks. Appreciate it. You can always finish out the base how you want. I left them the way they are for now but intend to finish out the black portions of the base... You could easily crystalize a space marine as a whole or part. Whatever part in the water is what will get crystalized.

  • @Xtil Why can't I pull your channel up to see your stuff. It says it's unavailable.

  • @jimeronimo Maybe my privacy settings, but I don't have any uploads. Anyway I tried making the crystals a few days ago. I just need to eat some soups to use the cans for the hot water since I dont want to dirty my parents glasses. I read online that putting the can with hot water inside another container that is really cold can make the crystals larger, have you tried that?

  • @Xtil No I haven't tried that. You should film it if you do and share. As for the glasses it won't hurt them you clean them back out with hot water. In fact somewhere I read that the longer it takes the hot water to cool the bigger the crystals will get.. I just do it the way I did. It works for me.. I am going to do another vid with more colors and variations and then move on to some other great ideas. Let me know how it turns out for you. :o)

  • Hey nice work man.

  • @drOffset Thanks budro! Appreciate that. Thanks for checking it out and hope to see you pop by or subscribe! I have a bunch of other Terrain and Terrain table projects in the works if you're into that kind of stuff. Take care. ~Jim

  • Great idea and great result!!!

  • @ZOHtube Thanks. We were really pleased with them. Thanks for watching

  • Those are excellent! How did you come up with this idea?

  • @asmodeus3 Glad you liked it.. Basically I knew about making the crystals for making Christmas Tree Ornaments and snowflakes.... Then I had seen other "crystal making" terrain vids and realized immediately real crystals could be done!

  • Awesome stuff man! How resiliant are they to handling?

  • @beanofdoom42 As long as you pay attention to doing it how I did it.. The right mix ratio, stirring it well, slowly introducing each measurement of Borax, etc...... The Crystals come out pretty hard and thick...

IF you get any of the afore mentioned a little off the crystals can not form at all, come out like fuzzy coating instead of crystals, etc...

  • @jimeronimo Excellent! Thanks man! :)

  • neato mosquito

  • @bustobiwan Hey bud. Thanks for checking these out.. Glad you liked them

  • Great vids you two. . Love the crystals, they're amazing. 10/10 . Thanks for taking the time to share . ;)

  • @inspiredprophet Wow man Thanks. All the comments make the effort and all this video posting and editing learning curve worth it!

  • Wow, now that looks like a really fun project and really great results...love the purple ones and I agree, winter, underwater, or alien terrain would all benifit from those pieces....great set of vids...You and JP made a fantastic team putting together the tutorial...Jim.

  • @Jedijim252 Thanks Jim.. They were really fun to do and pretty quick too if you're not having to film and take doing a tutorial into consideration. The longest part was waiting overnight.. I'll show him what you said.

Have more of we'll be doing with other variations: Green, Silver, Better Red ones, etc.. Thanks again! ~Jim

  • very cool i wonder how the claer ones would take to a stain or wash

i like it thanks for this

  • @bluemoonminis Glad you liked it! I was hoping these might be a "hit" with everyone. I didn't try anything like that yet but I had wondered about paint. From handling them, I'm fairly certain paint will adhere because the surfaces are rough enough for the paint to stick I think. As for washes & stains. I dunno. They should take to a certain degree. I think the darker washes would do better & would of course darken up all the cracks and recesses pretty well. Worth a response vid? LOL

  • GORGEOUS!! I'm absolutely astounded at how those turned out! Great work on this and thanks for sharing!

I'll definitely be giving this a go because I'll get beautiful table elements AND a great science lesson for the kids! :D

  • @terrainoob Thanks. I'm pleased you liked them as much as I did. I'm hoping Viv and Bill come across my little series and let me know what they think too... This is definately fun. Almost to the point of addictive. The longest part is the overnight wait. But it's also the coolest part to discover how each turned out. Would love to see response vids!!!

  • WOW Jim and Jp they turned out fantastic, really look awesome, i will defo be trying this, one question were do you get the Borax, and do you know the UK equivalent??

    jimmy72nd

  • @Jimmy72nd Glad to hear you liked them. You find Borax in the Laundry aisle of grocery stores usually near the bleach because it's a "laundry booster".. As for a UK version I'm not sure BUT when you find it, you definately should do a response vid to share your experimentation..LOL

  • @jimeronimo Will do guys, if i find some ill vid the progress. jim

  • Im thinkin crystal caves, crystal buildings, crystal castles, . This was a good series. I think with a few tweeks of the tags you could get a lot of "outside the community" hits on this thing. Very informative and cool. Later

  • @LOXMYTHIC I'm TOTALLY open to suggestions to add for the Tags.. I'd like to get the word out a lot wider for my channel right? LOL. When I did them I had a crystal cave in my mind, but quickly expanded my vision for other scenarios when I saw how the white ones came out looking like coral..... Lots of possibilities.. Would be great if you PMed me with what your thoughts were for Tags

  • Great job Jim and JP! Really like the way they turned out. Would be great for Necron terrain.

  • @eq2templar Thanks Matt. We were excited how they finished up too.

  • great little series, those look really cool. I've never used borax before. Are pipe cleaners a must? how well do you think it would stick to some plastic tube.

I have an idea now to try this with clear bent plastic tube then sticking an LED in the bottom once the crystals form.

  • @IRONBLOODxMECHANIQUE Hey Bud Thanks.. You need something the Crystals can grow attached to. They'll grow on the string and pipe cleaners but can't say what would happen on a smooth plastic tube...Oh snap wait. Try roughin up the exterior of the tube to help the crystals have something to grab onto. Would love to see it work out with your light idea! Do a vid response man.. Love to see it. ~Jim
