I miss these old days where you had to work your ass off to get a decent sound... and you had to record to multitrack tape.. and you had to splice reels.. and you didnt have the luxury of a hundred great sounding string samples under your fingers. I wish I was born earlier. I am a composer and producer and I hate how easy it is... I really do... to fake a great sounding band, orchestra, or any instrument combination, its just not fun anymore. These guys look like they had FUN as well as work
I was very very disappointed. The contrast between the early days of the Radiophonic Workshop, where DIY, technique and art were paramount, with this later phase where we're treated to people using off-the-shelf gear in bog-standard ways. It could be a show reel for any music production house. And in fact, I'm wondering if it was in fact an attempt to justify the existence of the Radiophonic Workshop to BBC management.
Please seek out "Alchemists of Sound" and be prepared to be amazed.
I think it's by AMS. They did various reverb & delay units. Not sure if you can still get them new. Radiohead use them and it provides the oscillating delay noise at the end of "karma police".
Man love the sound hardware great stutf.

@emilshere Nothing is stopping you from applying the same techniques to your music. We have all the technology we want, but hardly no innovators.

"That's the sound of someone playing the bass... with their thumb."
"Well that's just awful, innit?"
That would have been my response.

"Des Irae" I think. Part of The Requiem Mass removed from the litergy by some papal decree or other.

Does any one know which rack mount 'freezes' his voice?

Judging by the time fo this video I suspect it's a Lexicon digital reverb unit- pity only a small bit of the rack is visible.
