    @kawa7900: it does not necessarily mean if the turbo is closer to the "header" that it will perform better. Usually it is more optimal to use a manifold with longer plenums to increase flow, but with such a small turbo a log may be better.

  • Yip never heard of a turbo mounted at the back off a bike . How ever as i was saying , it WILL LOOSE POWER and chip foose may do that , but im sure the folk that work with turbos will tell you that the closer to the header the better, making the turbo effective . As for R1`S it must be someone thats not got a clue , as most R1` turbos i have seen, the turbo as been mounted at the front . Given the expense of a turbo you would want the best from it .

  • What you've never heard of a rear mount turbo? Even Chip Foose used the idea on a mustang i saw at a car show, and its been done on R1's for years.

  • No expert but i thought the closer to the exhaust header the better , never seen one on the rear i take it you lose a hell of a lot of boost and have a hell of a turbo lag

Oh, btw, the 06 zx6r 636 will do around 200mph with just a few simple mods. So either he has never pushed the bike, OR its an older kawa with newer plastic. They will do 180mph STOCK!     I'd estimate an actual top speed to be anywhere between 157.5~168 mph based on these figures.

    I don't own a ZX6R but I do hope to, what I don't do is talk out of my arse..

    If you'd like the added embarrassment then you could quote me your Primary drive, Gearbox and Final Drive Ratios, as well as maximum RPM and your tyre information then I could tell you what your theoretical top speed should be. ;)

    My 2000 zx6r which is stock apart from a micron can will do 172mph, and that is 9 years old!. i have a dyno print out to prove it aswell. so maybe the newer ones will reach 180mph. when you get your 6r you can tell us how fast yours goes and then you will see these bikes are pretty quick.

  • Eddie, that's not such a bold claim, and yes there are middleweight super sports being made today that would run all over the thou's of yesterday, you are correct.

    But I still won't believe that a stock middleweight bike will do those figures, maybe changing the sprockets but there would obviously be a fair trade off in acceleration.

    Life's too short for these arguments lol, if I'm mistaken then I'm sorry but otherwise there's enough bullshit being spread in this world, and especially on here.

  • I had an 06 636 and INSTRUMENTED it did 167 mph..and usually the speedo is off by about 10% unless you get a speedo healer

  • LISSEN FOLKS....... The turbo's on these bikes are almost always gonna be a custom thing. And yes the turbo on the back is sweet. The main reason being that anyone could adapt the turbo exhaust housing there without having to build a traditional mount for the bikes exhoust. You still use your own bikes OEM headers, and just add a coupler for the turbo to mount to the exhoust pipe!

  • My guess would be that the turbo is too large, and the bike doesn't have the displacement to turn the turbo at enough RPM to produce boost.

  • the turbo is a little to big...it makes full boost in the upper rpms

    that's the first one i've seen with the turbo mounted on the subframe, it's bad ass and i got the urge to do mine now :)

  • just throwin this out there... there is no piping of any kind going from the turbo itself to the intake of the bike. so really what has been done is a turbo has been mounted to the exhaust and it spools... but thats about it. unless the snail is attached to the intake the bike is no faster than it was stock. also you would run out of gear long before 200mph. you would be bouncing off the limiter in 6th at about 180

  • Take another look......The turbo is attatched to the intake....that is the pipe on the left side of the bike you see....the part of the turbo that you see with nothing attatched is where it sucks in the air...LMAO....and what makes you think that the stock gearing is still in place..??..Lmao...

  • Obviously you're blind, or haven't worked much with turbos. What you *think* is "no piping going to the intake" is the inlet side of the turbo. The outlet/charge side, is going in under the seat, up in to the intake. If it was me, I'd put a small airfilter on it, just to avoid debris from getting into the turbo. Even a small particle can cause major damage to the fins at 120.000rpm.
