@YoumiChasu They are both exactly the same, although in the other video you have seen the wording has been separated slightly differently. The pronunciation should be the same as well, Getsuyoubi- Ge/tsu/you/bi. If you have been taught to pause before the "bi" then you may have been taught by a person with a dialect, and if so that's completely fine. On the other hand if you want to practice how to say the days of the week you can split the word into syllables Ge--tsu--you--bi.

getsu youbi-monday. ka youbi-tuesday. sui youbi-wednesday. moku youbi-thursday kin youbi-friday. do youbi-saturday. and nichi youbi-sunday. OTSUKATE SAMA-WELLDONE am i right
An explanation for the days' kanji (besides Sunday and Monday, which are obvious):
The Latin names for Tuesday through Saturday mean Day of Mars, Day of Mercury, Day of Jupiter, Day of Venus, and Day of Saturn.
The five Chinese elements are have the planets with these names associated with them. Fire has Mars, Water has Mercury, Wood has Jupiter, Metal has Venus, and Earth has Saturn.
Not sure if that's the actual explanation, but that's why I think they chose them.
*giggles* I learned these words while I was watching V6's Let's go to school! They had a game with teh days of teh week and I just memorised them.... This will show them! Boybands are educational! XD
Congratulations, beautiful and very good video channel I invite you to watch my videos PIELCANELA, CUANDOESTEMOSVIEJOS, TRIANGLE AND VERACRUZ make us your comments from your beautiful pais.tus Genuine Romance group Friends of Mexico.
Unlike Western philosophy which has four elements (fire, air, earth, water), Eastern philosophy has five (fire, wood, water, metal, earth) and air is dropped. The Chinese, Japanese and Koreans follow the Eastern philosophy of days.
@KitKatman2008 Alright but can you explain how Mars comes in for "tuesday" because I guess it means mars as well. They all mean planets but Tues? Mars? How?
@Konata101 Do you mean English days of the week? Tuesday = Tyrs (or Tiws) day, being one of the Norse gods. To be honest, most of our days of the week are named after gods & goddesses rather than planets - just! Moonsday/Tiwsday/Wodensdsay/Thorsday/Frig (Freya)'s day/Saturnday/ Sun-day
Ah! Wrong question. Why divide 29 by 4 is the right question? Ans. The four quarters of the moon. 29 / 4 almost equals 7 day weeks. So common observation of the night sky could have independently led to the seven day week. Very Genki!
Now that is the first interesting question I have heard on this video. VERY good question. Unfortunately I'm not sure what came before the western 7 day calendar. I'm sure it must have been some kind of calendar linked with important religious Buddhist events though. Will have to look into that.
@hunyaga hnnn......didn't they have a lunar calendar, and called days based on the phases on the moon? Like Izayoi, etc............(IDK. I know Izayoi appertains to a moon phase) but......it would make sense if they used a lunar calendar
Actually, the Japanese seven day week doesn't come from the west, but from China. The ancient Chinese referred to the sun moon, and other planets as "The Seven Luminaries." It is these seven astral bodies that the days of the week are based on. ^_^
Thanks for the information. So now the question is: Does the seven day week, found in Western and Eastern culture, come from a common source? 'Kind of sounds like it's a common source with Sunday, Monday, Saturday (Saturn). I'll do some research. Thanks (^.^)
A paleolithic tally stick called called the Labombo Bone dating back 35,000 years ago had 29 notches. The notches are thought to count off the days of the lunar month. Now why divide 29 by 7???
@Nu13th No one can say when it began, but for pretty much as long as there has been any kind of written history all cultures have recognized a seven day week. It's based on the lunar cycle which has 28 days, and the 4 easily recognizable divisions of that cycle, each of which last for 7 days. While the length of a month or year may vary from culture to culture in ancient history, the week has always been the same.
@ZFSBoss2090 Thanks for your reply. I think you're right. The ancients were so much more in touch with natural events like the four stages of the moon. Today, we are lucky if we can even see a night sky full of stars.
@Nu13th The seven day week, along with names for days corresponding directly to the western calendar, were brought to Japan around AD 800 along with the Buddhist calendar. The days are named after the Asian '7 Luminaries', the sun, moon, and the five planets visible to the eye (which are named after the five elements in traditional East Asian philosophy). Sorry for replying to such an old comment, but I couldn't resist!
@thephilosopherkartik Thank you for replying even now. Your reply re-sparked my interest. So, out of curiosity, I set off on a wiki-trip. I ran across a wiki article you'd perhaps read. From that article: "The seven day week, with names for the days corresponding directly to those used in Europe, was brought to Japan around AD 800 with Buddhism calendar. The system was used for astrological purposes and little else until 1876." I'm looking into the, "...until 1876." Great day to you!
I love this video. it definitely helped me remmber the days of the week. I first saw it on a podcast from learn japanese with beb and alex. they're great
waita second! For tuesday, it looks like we've got the fire kanji, and wendsday has the water kanji, and thursday air. Is this a coincidence, or are there elements associated with the weekdays in Japan?

The kanji for "day of the week" - 曜 - so complicated for such a daily word!
Destruction3402 3 months ago
day = yo, bee! (gangsta talk)
monday = get sue
tuesday = car (get sue in the car)
wednesday = sue day
thursday = moku (goku + moe from the simpsons)
friday = family (kin = family welfare)
saturday = homework (do homework!)
sunday (my knee is ichi = nichi)
this is how I typically learn japanese.

What a non-sense... To tell the Japanese...
Surely there was from long time the association with the five elements and the sun and moon...
We have more to learn from them than it is supposed...
