Well the Senate voted and no they are not going to end the subsidies. Should we end the subsidies for all those 'green' industries the Pres keeps promoting? This isn't about taxes - it is about ending subsidies for established industries. This is just the payback from the legislators for getting them elected. The number at the pump won't even be perceptible. It would be great to have hydrogen receive the subsidies so that can become better established, but Dr. Stephen Chu has no clue.
A subsidy is a waiver to not pay taxes, or is a direct payment from the governemnt (who gets all their money from gasp... taxes) so it is without a doubt about taxes.
The "payback from the legislators for getting them elected" is most likely why the subsidy is there in the first place, so if that's what you are saying you are correct.
Bottom line though is take away the subsidy now, higher gas, and almost everything else, for you and me. Taxes get passed to the end user, always.

Well the Senate voted and no they are not going to end the subsidies. Should we end the subsidies for all those 'green' industries the Pres keeps promoting? One solar panel making factory that got govt 'green' money has closed a factory and laid off some workers--yea some govt wasted dollars there. The Bakken fields oil find could yield as much as 2 million barrels a day and raise US production by atleast 20%. But if Obama sends the EPA to mess that up then we are back to driving the price of oil high so that the high price of 'green energy' would look more appealing. @menetjunky you may be right but, I will always have one front I can secure, my home. Regardless of laws in Illinois, I walk through my house armed. If the police step in without a warrant, they get drawn on. They draw back but, it is my house and state law was not written to disarm me there, unless they have a warrant. If they have a warrant, no problem. No warrant, their problem...my gun. And if ever they come to disarm me, they will carry my corpse and the corpse of at least one officer.

The Bush administration smiled as they made key breaks in the building blocks of our way of living. We must undo what has been done. Two things I can think of are, A. REPEAL OBAMACARE and B. DISBAN the DEPT. of HOMELAND SECURITY and other agencies like CHILDREN FAMILY SERVICES.

@joskemom I did not go to Spain, but do know that windmills still turn, and they do produce electricity in most areas during inclement. Some areas where there is inconsistant winds, coupled with lots of snow, yes, the vanes did get laden down with snow and ice! But, for the most part electricity was produced year round. President Obama is on the right track, unlike the backward thinking of the Republicans!! Obama is showing himself to be the best leader American could have right now!!!!

Dear Congress,
We the people are facing family memebers loosing homes while you have yours. Teachers are doing something beneficial to the world but they make way less than you. The working class (middle class) are getting taxed to pay for the well being of the country while gas companies which are making billions of dollar this year aren't taxed as much as the class. Could you please give we the working class a reason why this action has been taken?

He does relize the so called Subsidies he speaks of are tax breaks afforded to all American businesses, who by the way pay the highest corprate tax rates the world over. All he will do by this is increase the cost of gas and make us more dependant on foriegn oil as he pushes the pipe dream of wind and solar power, neither of which are reliable or as green as they may seem. Look up the huge ecological disaster that is Neodynioum processing for windmill magnets in China.

This isn't about taxes - it is about ending subsidies for established industries. This is just the payback from the legislators for getting them elected. The number at the pump won't even be perceptible. It would be great to have hydrogen receive the subsidies so that can become better established, but Dr. Stephen Chu has no clue.

A subsidy is a waiver to not pay taxes, or is a direct payment from the governemnt (who gets all their money from gasp... taxes) so it is without a doubt about taxes.
The "payback from the legislators for getting them elected" is most likely why the subsidy is there in the first place, so if that's what you are saying you are correct.
Bottom line though is take away the subsidy now, higher gas, and almost everything else, for you and me. Taxes get passed to the end user, always.

This president is not as detached from the average man as have been prior presidents. He has the ability to truly understand our struggles. He is truly a man OF the people AND FOR the people. (The last president was only for himself-and so far removed with his vast family oil wealth) Obama is logical, analytical, thorough, and will not be dissuaded from doing what is necessary, regardless of big money and special interests. Very comforting to have an altruistic man at the helm.

We need to leave fossil fuels behind. Liquid Fluoride Thorium nuclear reactors are the energy of the future. No risk of meltdown. Thorium is more common than tin. Cannot be refined into nuclear weapons. Uses up to 99% of the energy in the fuel compared to 3% for uranium. After 300 years the radiation is nearly all gone, compared to conventional nuclear reactors where the radiation lasts thousands of years.

Unfortunately, we can never be completely free of fossil fuels--many methods of creating 'clean' energy utilizes fossil fuels in the process, but at lesser amounts. 'Clean' energy will not completely eliminate the need for fossil fuel, so we will always need some supply.

If the biggest corporations in America were made to pay US taxes we wouldn't have to have any budget cuts. 2/3rds of the biggest corporations pay NO tax and ship their profits to offshore accounts. Wake up, America! Big oil will continue to raise prices on oil because we passed "peak oil" in 2001. Oil can only become more scarce and prices will on average always continue to rise. We have the capability of deriving all our energy needs for other sources. Why not do it ?B-cuz of oil lobbyists.

They drive on the roads, they are protected by firefighters & police, their kids go to schools, they get these benefits without of government funding without paying in a share & now we are getting budget cuts on all these essential services because there's not enough money from taxes. The taxpayers ended up netting a profit due to positive returns from the bailouts. It is the rich, not the government, that provides jobs and who would be forced to pass on tax increases to the consumer.

Example: Bank of America made $4.4 billion in profit & received $2.3 billion from taxpayers in 2009 & paid no tax & got $45 billion in taxpayer bailouts in the prior 2-year period. On top of that they got a $1.9 billion "tax benefit" that came from your tax money that could have gone to public services, schools, etc. And they raised, not lowered, their interest and penalty rates.
