It sounds like the same third-stream musical direction as the collaborations with Claus Ogerman. I love this music, but it's a pretty hard sell for the general public.
I was expecting not to like this as I'm not such a fan of more modern classical music. But this... this is rather good... That'll teach me to judge before I listen.

I don't know the piece being played, but Brecker and this group seem to be an odd combination. Not saying he's playing bad, but just kinda sounds almost like someone warming up.
OK- but this is obviously not a"composition" by Psathas.
It's as usual, a little theme, some chord progressions , tone colours a la contemporary Polish school, some instructions and then .. leave the top soloist improvise all his vertical sructures' super stuff and that' it.
How about written out - composed music throughout ?
And don' t tell us this is a written out soloist's music ..
I hope you're embarrassed by your comments -- you should be. I'm even slightly embarrassed for you and that's saying something. Your gaffe aside, Brecker is genius here; drummer is good too.
Amazing performance and composition! Wish i was there!!

Mike did a great job on this. How not? He"s just playing what he always played. I didn't like the composition though. It's so pretentious.

I'm sorry, but concert bands are not meant for jazz. Michael is great though

@dahalofreeek Oh, cool. I just saw him this weekend, actually. Still, I think I prefer Michael in terms of style.

@Vitruvian42 Joshua Redman actually has done a very good recording of this concerto.

Hey asshole. Saying it sounded odd is just an inference, not a fact, based upon ignorance.

You might want to check out the score before offering such a knowledgeable opinion.
