  • I think this test is very useful. It demonstrates exactly the functionality we are all interested in knowing about. Maybe you don't like the actual results vs. what you were expecting...

  • wow chrome sucks

  • i did a proper speed test (timed java page load) and these were the results:

    6) Google Chrome - 7.086s

    5) Netscape - 6.958s

    4) Firefox - 6.877s

    3) IE - 5.997s

    2) Safari - 5.196s

    1) Opera - 5.163s

yes, i'm aware that netscape is for dinosaurs. i was curious. get over it.

  • firefox is the only browser that supports HTML 5 Nvidia 3D on youtube :)

  • If IE didnt exist web developers would have alot easy time making websites. i have been using both ie and chrome, and sometimes ie just crashes but chrome is more smoother thhan ie. i hate ie and i will allways do !

  • my 2 fav browsers are firefox and IE9 :)

  • And I don't know why people hate IE, IE9 is probably the second fastest if not the FASTED browser out there. IS IT because people are so narrow minded and stubborn to try the latest version? IE9 and Google Chrome are the best. No competition.

  • all stealed chrome's idea

  • @wakie151 no, the fishes are all the same ;)

  • From a web designer's standpoint, if the term "rigged benchmark" had a definition.....this would be it.

  • Except i don't give a shit about all these reasons. I use firefox for utility with the plethora of mods and addons that the other browsers simply don't have.

  • The only reason why IE wins, is that it doesn't implement standard WebGL. Firefox is a bit better than Chrome, because it is mor "IE compatible" shall we say. IE can't even run a proper WebGL benchmark, and Google Chrome runs far the fastest of the other browsers. No matter how you look at it, IE sucks.

  • And its Very Pretty

  • I dont know why but chrome has the smoothest performance of all browsers !

  • Mozilla 5 has 60 FPS with 1000 fishes ....... Mozilla FTW !

  • Internet Explorer 9 The Best

  • I basically did loads of those tests on the IE10 testdrive page, and well, o average, I have to say that on average, Firefox 5 is the fastest of the 3 I tested, which were Firefox 5, IE9 and Chrome 12. For example, in the test in this video, I got:

1000 fish at 50 fps in Firefox, 60 fps in IE and a pathetic 3 fps in Chrome. Another test, the Speed Reading test. 6 seconds in Firefox, 6 seconds in IE, and... 22 minutes in Chrome. Yes, minutes.

  • you guys test it yourselves ie9 really is bad assssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!! want a crapy one use safari hhahahaahaahaahaahahahaaha that ones junk

  • im bookmarking this video!!!!!! bad asssssssssssssssssss man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So a Microsoft browser excels at a test made by Microsoft? Wait a minute....

  • it all well and good staying firefox isn't as good as internet explorer - lots of times I fixed people's computers on site and since IE is so embedded in the OS - I had to download and install firefox So I could download other stuff to fix the problem- the point being - the world is a better place for having several browsers - it all about CSS standards - not speed - IE is playing CSS catchup Fact.

  • That test is pointless it doesnt depend on what web browser is faster it all revolve's around your Pc's parts and performance to make the fish go faster not a Web Browser?

  • @xxdavidhaloxx

god that comment is stupid, but if you would get a better parts and the lowest score there would double, the highest one would also double!

  • @Mastermind12358 Bro. XD I was high when I commented this.So it is indeed stupid.:P

  • i'm using firefox for now, may be there is another fastest browser in the future

  • wow this Comparison slaps the author in his face. 5 frames difference chould be the difference of the smallest things within your PC and the next. seems to me that this video is more about how these Browsers are all about the same!!

  • These tests are useless. How about some real-world everyday browser tests.

  • Yeah....but I wanna see it do a billion fish!

  • @ryanfireball100 I reached 800 kbps with IE9 and 600 kbps with Firefox, moron.

  • deathmatch hahahahahahahaha

  • Firefox 4.0 is released. It's 6times faster than the old version of firefox and it supports windows 7. :) Now firefox is the best browser you can get. Go download it mozillaDOTcom

    :D

  • I used Firefox 3.6 on my old Windows XP PC and now I'm using IE9 on my new Windows 7 PC. IE9 is my top browser now since it has both Google and Norton toolbars. It has faster downloads than Firefox browsers and takes full advantage of my Norton 360 software. IE7 was OK and I did not like IE8, but so far I'm loving IE9.

  • @banzaigtv2 have you tried using the downthemall addon for firefox? i recommend it, makes downloading much faster and easier with its "dta oneclick" feature, which allows you to set a default download folder, meaning you dont have to tell it where to save. check it out if you havent already.

  • @banzaigtv2 IE9 is basically a dumbed down version of Chrome.

  • @gameslave2 YOU'RE garbage, pussymouth

  • @gameslave2 dude, your fucking face is garbage. i highly doubt anything you use is better. penis breath.

  • @gameslave2 Well....FAG!!!! :D

  • I'm not an aquarium expert but I think you got too many fish in your tank

  • IE 9.0 is the best browser in HTML 5

The idiots that bash IE 9.0 are just typical Microsoft haters

Whatever proof you give to them will always hate Microsoft an say crap

  • @Greekpride1231 IE9.0 in HTML5? What? It is the worst of all! IE9 is far better than IE8, but still bad.

Did you test them, compared to each other? Because I test Chrome 10, RockMelt, Firefox (3.6 and 4 RC2), Safari, and IE9, and IE9 was far the worse from all of them. FireFox was really good, but Chrome was the best. And W3C standard support are important in my opinion. This Microsoft made fishy thing is pointless...

  • @Greekpride1231 No, IE9 is absolute garbage in HTML5 and CSS3, still. IE9 lacks the new HTML5 form features, or even simple things like CSS3 box-shadow, etc. etc.

  • @BrJoFilmz its like me taking an exam that my father has written..

  • its funny that the fish tank test that you are using is made by microsoft... shouldnt you use a test thats made by someone not affiliated with any of the browers?

  • dont all say ie9 is bad. its more than 10 times as fast as its predecessor. I dont see opera firefox and chrome do that.

  • @nelizmastr So you're saying going from unacceptably slow to fairly fast is better than pushing the limits by going from super fast to even faster?

Firefox has vastly improved its performance from 3.5 to 4.0 as well, so you're full of shit. Also, Chrome is simply lightning.

  • @Gawdl3y its just a browser man, wtf..

  • @nelizmastr And I'm a web developer, so I have the right to complain about these things. IE9 is certainly a huge improvement from the previous versions, but it still cannot hold a candle to other browsers like Chrome or Firefox.

  • @Gawdl3y but most consumers will use IE inevitably. only a small percentage (relatively) uses 3rd party browsers.

  • @nelizmastr In Europe, Firefox has the largest market share.

  • Wouldn't use IE9 if I cared for the internet to follow standards. Microsoft is well known for adopting technologies (html5) adding unsupported features and propagating incompatibilities which in the end kill any competition (while harming users).

For an illuminating history on this read "Microsoft A History of Anticompetitive Behavior and Consumer Harm" available on google.

  • I'm using IE9 RC and i LOVE IT

  • ie9 rc, now true king on html5, but chrome 10beta still king in javascript

  • @YamiNogun No, the IE9 HTML5 and CSS3 support is still abysmal. IE9 still horribly fails the Acid3 test, and lacks many of the HTML5 specification features.

  • @Gawdl3y IE9 does not horribly fail the Acid3 test. Its score is a 95/100.

  • @MrLitster25 Well, that's good. Last I checked it was only at 43/100, which is absolutely horrible, but it's good to hear that it has been improved. However, it still doesn't support much of the HTML5/CSS3 specification. It doesn't have the new form features, transformations, and lots of other stuff that Chrome, Opera, and Firefox have had for the past year.

  • @Gawdl3y Acid3 is OK now, for IE9, but HTML5 and CSS3 is really horrible. So I still don't use IE9, I gave it a chance, but it failed.

The big problem, the browser like IE will slow down the spread of using newer W3C standards in my opinion.

  • @RatmanXX Exactly, that's why Microsoft just needs to accept defeat. Microsoft is slowly becoming irrelevant in everything, except operating systems. Most of their products nowadays are garbage (Zune, hardware of the 360, WP7 is OK, IE), and they just need to give up. They're simply flailing around now, like someone in water that doesn't know how to swim, struggling to stay on the surface of today.

  • I preformed this and Ie9 beta doesnt function well with another browser running at the same time

  • just use what you like o.o

  • This test is useless....

  • IE9 result @ 500 fish: 16 fps.

firefox 4b7 result for 900 fish. 40 fps.

    IE9 is rubbish, end of

  • @halohero92 ie9 on my computer runs at 40 fps with 1000 fish

  • Comment removed

  • @halohero92 Right there, thats just a lie. At 500 fish I have seen ie9 move between 57-60fps. so your opinion is just invalid. and bro, there is no option for 900 fish... so just shutup.

  • You need to update this video using Chrome 9 Dev.

  • Vorrà dire che quando vorrò guardare i pesci aprirò IE ma per il resto io mi tengo il mio Chrome non per la velocità ma semplicemente perché mi ci trovo benissimo !

  • I'm an Opera man and I'll never use anything else.

  • do test on real speed testers not a test made by microsoft. if they can't win they have to fool us??????

  • Search in Google "Peacekeeper" It will test your browser(s) and mark which one is better for your computer.

  • still i prefer opera there's less security holes with that one than all the other browsers

  • @jacob471 Too true! I know a bit about coding and this test detects the type of browser and limits the frame rate to Microsoft's desire. In other words the test is biased no matter how you look at it :3

  • when I used firefox it was the weakest :S

  • Well, this test was made by Microsoft, so obviously they built it to play on the strengths of IE9 as much as possible.

  • I Hate Ur Voice

  • I just watch this vid on Chrome HTML5, both my core's where pushed up to 100%.......and that was on 360p!!! XD

I have always hated flash but know I will at-least show respect. lol

  • this video is bullshit because I have with IE9 beta 60fps with 1000 fish setting :)

  • This test never ceases to amaze me. I opened up the Task Manager by right clicking on the taskbar and it showed the CPU usage of my dual core at 60% with 1000 fishies. I opened up my ATI control centre and found my graphics card running at 1%. In Chrome, my CPU usage actually dropped to 50% when I went to 1000 fishies!!! Suspicious...

  • @MrRichard991 true,it showed up the same in the ati control panel for me,max load on gpu 3%.maybe rendering 1000fishes is nothing compared to serious gaming :P

  • running all on the same system huh? not too tech savvy (hence all the thumbs down)

  • Firefox and IE9 are at the top. and close.. but if i had to choose i would go IE9 because of its looks.. fits in with windows 7 so well

  • @TkMToM1993 The thing with Firefox is that you can make it look how ever you want. You can even make it look like Chrome which is very close to what IE9 looks like now. And I am pretty sure they will release a theme add on for Firefox to look like IE9.

  • chrome sux with 1000 fish. ie9 rocks now. i am using it right now.

  • ok, I'm confused, why has he not posted the link to this test? I wish to test this on my pc and see how it compares with the firefox 4 beta 6...

  • This test is rather bad.

To gain the correct result test 1 at a time, and make the browser full screen.

FF did not win as IE was longer above FF and therefor IE 9 is the winner.

The test should be done by a person CARING which version the browser is as changes happen very rapid per version.

This is said from a "Chrome, IE9, Opera, Comodo Dragon Fan"

  • Mozilla Firefox – The Browser, Reloaded :)

  • Go IE9! Go! (IE FAN)

  • THIS TEST IS FINE

  • Good comparison video ... keep them coming!!

  • Why would you use a test built for IE9 on other browsers to test them?

  • I use firefox and i'm used to it. So firefox 4.0 is the only choise. BUt i also tried safari, ie, chrome and opera. Safari and chrome was both quiet good but i really liked opera. It was fast and esay to use.

  • firefox 4 all the way :)

  • Another point is Microsoft make the rendering library used here, they also make one of the browsers, and they make the benchmark itself. Every company weights their benchmarks

  • @IksfNordrassil

Nope, if this test is made for IE then they would not allow competetors such as FF to come close to them. This test is made as neutral as it can be and these animations would never be coded to favor one browser.

  • So IE9 will use the computers GPU? So basically they're just using more of the performance, hence using more power = decreasing battery life (if you're on a laptop like I am).

  • @Vmt16 So low battery life doing what you want is better than great battery life... if you don't mind not doing what you want to do?

  • @Vmt16

The opposite. They are utilizing the GPU to make an more efficent way. GPU is made for these kinds of things and therefor will not struggle. If the CPU is put at its maximum rather then a few % and then a few % on the GPU it will take LESS power. So dont be concerned.

  • Opera does NOT use any form of hardware acceleration.

It's speed is done purely software at this point.

hardware acceleration will likely come later this year in 11.x

At that point it will be the fastest at virtually every test.

  • It's a microsoft demo ! Don't forget , it's optimized for IE !

  • I dunno but in these tests IE9 was the king of all.

  • IE9 Preview 4 is released!

IE9 Preview 4 vs. Preview 3 comparison: Tested on a 1440x796 screen resolution:

    (Fish #, IE9 P4 Result, IE9 P3 Result):

(100,60,60) (FPS limited at 60 by default, improvement cannot be calculated)

(250,60,50) (FPS limited at 60 by default, improvement cannot be calculated)

    (500,42,30) => 40% improvement

    (1000,24,17) => 41% improvement

Conclusion: IE9 Preview 4 is 40% faster than IE9 Preview 3. Next release will Beta 1!

  • IE will always win in tests like these, since Microsoft has vast amounts of access to the core elements of windows and stuff, in addition to direct x and money. but i think IE is still a little slow on java script, but who the hell uses JavaScript to make a involved game/app, and not to show off or test something.

  • @ctoon6 True. IE still has some work to do to catch up on the JavaScript execution time, at this time chrome 6 is the fastest..but IE has made some progress from IE preview 1 to IE preview 2 to IE preview 3...so IE beta 1 looks to close the gap too

  • @hajialibaig did some benchmarking on javascript (Sunspider)

    ie9 p4:406.6ms +/- 0.7%

    chrome 5: 364.6ms +/- 0.9%

    firefox 4 beta 2: 644.9ms +/- 4.0%

chrome fastest outta the above 3

  • @hajialibaig

Your retarded. Opera is faster then Chrome on every aspects but Start-Up

  • @cocopara learn to spell motherfucker haha

  • @hajialibaig

I see how sophisticated your grammar is.

  • @cocopara better than your mama's haha cock sucker!

  • @hajialibaig

Did you really have to add such an immature comment?.

"Cock Sucker?" These comments are often used as insult by people doing just this. So please protect your privacy. I did not need to know what your doing in your free time.

  • @cocopara I am doing your mom right now, too busy, come back later chump, ok? haha WTFOWNED

  • @hajialibaig

I am?, perhaps I shall report you and get your account banned?, hows that?

  • @cocopara Lol. Nice.

  • html5 will kill flash??

  • @moneyguy210 No.

  • Further clarification:

    Firefox 4 Beta 2 (Screen resolution at 1440 x 900) with 100 Fish: 9 FPS

    IE Preview 3 (Screen resolution at 1440 x 900) with 100 Fish: 60 FPS

IE Beta 1 to be released in September. IE Beta 2? Who knows. Firefox 4 Beta 2 gets smoked by an IE version 3 steps below in the development process

  • @hajialibaig

    > "3 steps below in the development process"

In which world are you living that you believe you can compare "development" like that?

  • @595o meh who cares, the bottom line is IE is not even in the beta stage....and it outperforms firefox beta 2....let's wait for IE beta 2 to come out for a rather fair comparison..

  • @hajialibaig Bottom line is that your argumentation is flawed because the definition of a "beta stage" can be quite arbitrary.

  • @595o and this test is flawed, running all four browsers at the same time is misleading. Also, since all four browsers were run at the same time, the screen resolution was divided by a factor of 4, that's where firefox does ok...but when u run each browser separately on full screen HD resolution such as 1440x900...firefox shows it's age

  • This test is EPIC FAIL. I ran the top two browsers independently (IE Preview 3 and Firefox 4 Beta) and got this:

    Fish Tank with 100 Fish:

    IE Preview 3: 60 FPS

    Firefox Beta 4: 9 FPS

    Firefox Beta 4 gets raped.

To test the fish tank on your browser, google: "IE 9" and click on first link

  • @hajialibaig Have you enabled hardware acceleration?

  • @595o obviously yea, firefox does okay at LOW resolutions..but once you crank it up...it dies, test it for yourself , both browsers are FREE

  • For the Fishtank, search for "microsoft testdrive fishtank"

  • LINK TO THE FISH TANK MAYBE?

  • Your testing is messed up and it's not an accurate comparison, and plus two of these aren't even released.. You obviously are a mozilla fan but lets just say this, you probably need more accurate scenarios to benchmark these

  • Comment removed

  • I want to see 'GWT Quake', a port of the Quake II engine to HTML5 using the Google Web Toolkit running in Internet Explorer 9, leveraging multi-core CPU and GPU power.

  • IE 9 .,,,,,,,,, 1

  • LOL this test is ridiculous, it only shows that IE9 uses windows' hardware acceleration more efficiently than other browsers, which is to be expected.

IE9 uses DirectX, while other browsers have integrated support for graphics (which enables them to be cross-platform).

Without DirectX, IEs couldn't even render a png with transparency correctly... plus, i dont know for IE9, but up to IE8 it still was impossible to put 2 transparency effect on 1 element, while all other browsers can.

  • @FukEduP72 Can you stop spaming that all over the place it's not even true, and you clearly have no idea what you are talking about...

  • @FukEduP72

    FF4 uses DirectX too

  • @FukEduP72

Are you retarded?. The solution of which is used by other browsers is just as efficient. If this would compromise performance they would make 2 versions of the browsers!. RETARD

  • why on same pc? one may have eaten up some of shared system resources

  • Opera doesn't have hardware acceleration dumbass...

  • @max1cp I lul'd.

  • i wish IE9 gets a new look.. but they should focus on security and speed the most.

  • how did you get firefox to play those fishes?? i downloaded the beta minefield and it doesnt work with this fish IE test. It just shows one fish that doesnt move or some times it doesnt show anything lol, just the canvas in the back.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow Firefox 4 is awesome <3

  • @Gustav0M you're damn right mate.

  • downloadsquad you tool, what version of Opera.

  • Wow you can't even figure out Opera's version. *facepalm*

  • I think, There is a problem in this test.

    1. All browsers should not be open at once on the same PC, because system resources are all shared.

    2. Firefox resolution was disturbed in the end.

So Perform this test again with one browser at a time.

  • @yadishansar you just say that because you think firefox shouldn't be the winner lol XD

  • @yadishansar yeah exactly, its like trying to benchmark crysis on a video card while running a video conversion

  • @yadishansar Assuming they all have the same priority in task manager then they should all get a fair share of CPU time.

  • @yadishansar 3. Don't forget Safari. =)

  • @MPX4132

    why even bother :P

  • IE9 and Fx4 use GPU accelaration.

If Chrome and Opera adopt it, the result will overset.

  • I'll never understand the appeal of Chrome--sure, it's fast, but you also get that annoying updater installed to your registry that doesn't uninstall, privacy issues up the gazoo & that crap plug-in that loves installing in Firefox.

Fast is one thing; a full-featured browser is another. Firefox for me, thanks.

  • @muchdrama first of all, learn how to manage your software. second, what privacy issues are you talking about? ...crap plug-in that installs firefox in chrome? huh? this is where you just trail off into nonsensical rambling.

  • @arnkyle I suggest you read up and do some research before making uninformed comments. Manage my software? What does that mean? Are you referring to the updater that installs and runs in your start-up processes? It doesn't uninstall when you uninstall Chrome. That's sloppy programming. And obviously you've never used Firefox. If you've got it installed on your system and then you install Chrome, you also get a delightful Google Updater Firefox plug-in installed as well. Install SR Iron instead.

  • Whoa firefox kicks so much a**

  • WTF no safari 5? It is awesome on mac and on windows it's not faster then chrome but 100x better then IE8. you should had tested it.

  • @yasir25119918 - The test was for hardware acceleration and so far Safari 5 is about equal to opera.

  • safari?

  • Opera Is The Fastest Ever .

  • FIRE FOX BITCHES!

  • chrome is best jij domme aars

  • Haaah, Chrome got pwnd...

  • what a lame test. it's either having or not having hardware acceleration.

  • WTF NO SAFARI !!!!!

It's the best HTML 5 browser

  • @SoftwareTutorial its actually the worst, i read in a online article o.O
