  • Damn ronin you've to everywhere land I guess. I plan to go after high school but visit of course see if I like it. So must I know Japanese because I just know the basics like hi hello thank you so on and so forth. So must I know a lot of Japanese to survive?

  • Lol "study", "samurai", "historian". He is just another lazy parasite from hamburgerland.

  • @celboss your comment doesn't make a lot of sense but I assume that is probably normal for you

  • you must. like japan

  • Forget history. Japan is worth pursuing just for it's vastness and interesting culture.

  • @smacl61 history and culture are intertwined. Most of the festivals I go to feature depictions of historical people and events

  • me too, I like Japan :D

  • I am kind of like you- for my whole life, I was completely immersed in nothing but my Scandinavian culture -and nothing else. Don't get me wrong, my main interest still is Viking culture and history, but it was my growing curiosity of different warrior civilizations that lead to the samurai and I was hooked by Japan from there.. everything about Japan is just intriguing, I can imagine how the 1st Westerners must have felt when they arrived in Japan .. Cheers!

  • beer is not cheap in Japan and neither are Doritoes. You could eat buckets of rice for that money. What a drunken lying douche,

  • @Swagsloth bag of doritos = 100 yen Hoppo-shu = 120 Yen. For Japan and our budgets that was cheap. Can't believe you got bent out of shape over that to call me a drunken lying douche. What a silly douche you are!

  • do you still like it now?

  • @whatnottobe of course! more so than ever! Why wouldn't I?

  • @RoninDave were you affected by the quake, tsunami, volcano, or nuclear explosion?

  • @whatnottobe cool, i like it, cuz they lead in the field of robotics and thats my dream job, japan all the way, and we pray for them now...

  • thank you!!! iam the same way. i dont really hve an intrest in anime. i just wanna go to japan... idk y. but yeah i like the middle east to. finally somone understands!!! :)

  • Is that Joe Rogan!? 2:29 the guy standing near the far left...

  • RoninDave

Do you eat Japanese food when the eye balls of the animal are looking at you on the plate?

I turn into a kid when my food have eye balls on my plate looking at me, I freak out.

  • Samurai Douchebeard likes Japan.

  • @PushyLittleKid wow, so clever! Did you think that up yourself or did you have help?

  • @RoninDave His mum had to help him with the big words

  • @RoninDave How about Date Masadouchebag?

  • @Boblikezchicken pretty lame - work on your material

  • I'm studying Japanese right now. I hope to be visiting Japan soon.

  • great story!!

  • i love japan lol

your so lucky to get to go to all those places, ide love to get the chance to get to travel everywhere

  • if you want to do it, do it!

  • this might sound stupid but that is one thing that kinda worries me is that if I go to Japan I don't want them to think I am one of those kinds of people. Despite the fact that I do like anime/manga, my interest in Japan is separate from that and much deeper, if that makes any sense.

  • i wouldn't worry about it too much unless you plan to walk around in anime cosplay. Just enjoy yourself!

  • @RoninDave thanks ^_^

  • @zach9044 thats what all weeabos say

  • @zach9044 Yeah I have to be careful of that too, though I don't really like manga or anime. My grandfather was Japanese, but I'm white. I want to go to school there and hope to do so one day. I'm currently working on my Japanese and kanji, but I don't want to be taken for "one of those"!!

  • @zach9044 Me too. Im into the japanese mythology, music, myths, films, a little into manga, history and culture. Im so exited, but im just 14. So I have to wait LONG

  • Yeah, I noticed more people are intrigued by Japan. This is true so please don't take any offence, but white people (90% of the time) have their heads right up Japans arse... most people are into Japan because of Anime and manga.

  • yeah, I'm not a big fan of either but their fans are rather amusing with their obsessions and beliefs that the real Japan is like the manga/anime Japan

  • japan is a tiny country

mao spilled far more blood than hirohito the same case is right with stalin

  • humans in general have the power to do such evil youre no different from them so why moan or bitch and cry over age old conflicts and conrtaversies

  • when you study the world history and stop focusing your anger on one tiny country you will understand that their were horrible acts commited by people all over and I can give a shit less about japanese and anti japanese so quit wasting your time jerking off to anti japanese propaganda cause no one in these times care about history that happened nearly a 100 years ago

  • look at the recent texts of these fools all countries have their violent history and racist and out right prejudice people so if youre gonna hate people and cultures in general hate everyone else not only japan

  • this isn't 1939. Get with the times, weirdo.

  • uh-huh, and wanting 10 nukes on Japan doesn't make you any better.

  • I spent 6 years teaching English in asia (Japan, Korea, and Thailand) and I had the time of my life. I backpacked for months at a time from Nepal to Bali. Now I have settled down in the American suburbs and I'm bored out of my mind and surrounded by hugely obese women. In asia I was surrounded by beautiful thin women. Stay in Asia....you will not regret it!!

  • don't be afraid to generalize more

  • Amen to that.

  • come to denmark. we have the hottest chicks there

  • that is so bullshit i will end this comment here

  • Get rid of this vulgar Echelion in typical CCP- mental illness away from the entire Universe !!!!! føøøyyyy ,,

  • I think Japanese girls are very pretty. :)

  • Money and girls were both good.Nuff' said.Enjoyed yor vid.People are jealous of you.Screw them.

  • i don't let them bother me - I just find the cliche arguments used rather amusing

  • Lived,loved,and worked there 18 years.Wish i could go back.

  • The older people tended to bark at me about procedure and protocol before I could show them I knew what to do.Simple things,i might add.I,ve encounted that in the USA workplace as well. Its enraging.Makes you want to bite their heads off.

  • The worst and rudest locals for me were mostly elderly men and even some older women.

  • Im planning to learn Japanese and moving to Toyko or the one with the Giant Gundam Mobile suit, i cant remember the name of the city.

  • well, sounds like you're totally ready to go there.....

  • i love history to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) ^---^

  • I'm a major in Japanese and I tried observing all these rules (I do anyway).

No dice. I still get treated like shit by about 30% of people I talk to here and almost everyone in public.

I do live in tokyo though...

  • What happened? I lived there almost 20 years and the main trouble I had was dealing with crappy employers (schools). But I could always find another/better job with a little persistence. That continued until about 12 years ago, when the economy was already on the slide. But in daily life I had no problems.I want to know because I thinking of returning.

  • When I was here a few years ago, people generally didn't stare or start talking about me when i was right next to them. I think the increase in foreigners (espcially the sex and money hunters) and bad economy overseas means that unlike before, people dont understand that i'm not here for their money or their women. Also, that i tried really hard to get here because i like(d?) japan!

I was a fresh faced youngster back then, maybe that's got something to do with it.

PPl in Guam were the best btw

  • PS back in 1980,I started working in Utsunomiya.Foreigners were pretty rare in that area.I got stared at quite a bit.I didn't mind it so much at the time because i was busy and glad to be working.Sometimes I glanced back at gave a greeting, especially if one staring was cute.

  • such a boring video, i only made it half-way through and that's only cause the music was background noise while i was replying to an email.

  • better than any vid you have made - oops! you haven't made any have you?

  • lying bastard Dave. you like japan because back in the States you weren't getting laid without paying for it in advance and amongst your peers youre probably known as the little alcoholic who lives on the block.

  • whoa, foamy, long time to over the wall rant! Your boyfriend wise up and dump up thus this little tirade?

  • whoops! that should be dump "you" not dump up which sounds like domestic abuse and that I cannot support even against someone like you

  • Hey Fomiz, how have you been? Davey has been out, (As in passed out), for awhile, but he surely hasn't been missed. The good news is that Rodger Swan is back in the country and that means interesting, fun to watch videos unlike this brain dead crap Davey churns out.

P.S Davey doesn't pay for sex, he screws his students didn't you know????

  • hey, fozzie's single, mate. this might be your only chance to score (with a girl/human for the first time at any rate). Don't screw up this opportunity!

  • Could be.

Guess it beats laying some guys wife wouldn't ya say?

  • 私は日本を愛する

  • yellow fever perhaps?

  • I like japanese av girls and their history? i don't know maybe something bad

  • I like JP too! I wish i can go there someday. XD JP girls are my target i dont care in the past or history. LOL!

Its better to think about the future not the past. LOL XD

    PEACE!

  • uh, ok....?

  • わかない wwww

  • nani o wakaranai

in case i didnt make sense

    what dont you understand

how do you type in kana anyway

    what program

  • I was saying, I dont understand your first comment. Erm - I use a program called Microsoft IME, if you have windows it's more than likely you already have it, look under the language and regional settings.

  • old message

what did i say, took a brief look and didnt see it

  • I'm proud of that I'm Japanese!

thank you for loving Japan guys!

  • @godlovesshion If Japanese could stop worship the evil ghost in your Yasukuni Shrine temple and make offical apologize to the people you harmd. Then it's really the time to love you guies. Are you ready to stop worship the ghost of Unit 731, slaughter in Nanking City,.... as your God?

  • @tomlovegod , you are totally ignorant. Japanese govt and people including Emperor officially apologized more than 30 times for war crimes during ww2, but the media has never shown it to the world. And I have never heard that the US apologized for the mass murder in Iraq, Vietnam, Cambodia, and in Japan, where the Americans killed more than 500 thousand non-combatants through the atomic and incendiary bombs. The spirits shrined at Yasukuni are not evil. Research well on them.

  • The war criminals of A class were executed for the crime against peace and humanity, which is bull shit, because the generals and soldiers of the Allies did the same things to us. And the crime of A class had not been defined before the war was brought about. The Tokyo Tribunal was a fraud, nothing but a brutal retaliation ceremony under the facade of justice. America won the war with illegal means, indiscriminate nuclear attacks against uncountable non-combatants, so there will be judgment.

  • i don't see why everyone is posting such negative comments. he did what most people could never do: move to another country with little knowledge of their culture and language. It sounds to me like he is picking up on japanese language as time goes on, learning what he needs to get by.

Your travels seem interesting. Thank you for the video.

  • thanks! yeah, japan and the topic of it brings out a strange collection of uber-lovers, uber-haters, wannabes, wannabe-haters, etc... so you often find strange negative comments under videos related to Japan. Some of them hate you for loving Japan, some of them hate you for not loving japan, some of them hate you for living in japan, some hate you if they think you are a wannabe, and so on and so on...

  • Great video man. I agree, it's funny that these haters say that posting videos about Japan are "lame." Whats more lame, posting an informative video that thousands of people enjoy and rate nearly 5 stars, or spending your time spamming a person with negative comments because your life is void of any value?

Anonymity brings out the worst in people -_-

Anyhow, thanks for the awesome videos!

  • anonymity brings out the worse in people - too true!

The sad thing is that these anonymous cyber warriors think they are so "kewl" dissing vids and people but in reality everybody else with half-a-clue can see how pathetic they truly are.

  • Interesting. Really enjoyed it. You really were into many different places so Japan has a really nice life style. Wanted to ask, when were you able to find a job? Or there's no such thing as that until you're really good in Japanese?

    Thanks anyways^^

  • work can be found in teaching or doing TV/modeling work. It took me a while because my first company went belly up and I had to find other teaching work. Japanese isn't necessarily required as both fields are looking for foriegners. Also some IT work is available with mininum Japanese is required - a friend of mine did such work.

  • I LOVE JAPAN.

  • yeah, it's pretty nice

  • your such a lovely loser! I've got you posting comments on vids that have nothing to do with the halloween train. Can someone say - obsessive! Guys like you are a riot! You usually end up just showing everybody else that you're a nutter and the person you're raling against is not so bad. thanks for that, nutter!

  • I enjoy this vid. Thank you(◕‿◕)☆☆

  • You're an asshole. Your quest to bring others down show that you are the one with social inadequacies.

  • dude, you've got some pentup issues. I suggest therapy particularly in the anger management area.

  • uh, yeah... someone put waaaaay too much thought into this. Try decaf, buddy. I just like traveling.

  • yeah, but enough about your ex-boyfriends - not every guy fits your embittered model. Try prozac.

  • nor you. My responses have made you go on to other videos of mine. Got under your skin didn't I? I have that affect on losers like yourself. You don't see me posting on your videos - oh, waitaminute, you don't have any! oh, well!

  • dude where haven't you been lol

  • OMG THATS THE CASTLE WHERE THEY FOUGHT!!..dude i just spazzed out ,that rawks!

  • I first went to osaka 7 years ago for vacation now I'm planning my move to Japan, after studying the language over off and on over that time.

Question is what is the minimum amount of Yen to have to make this crazy move happen assuming I'll work withing 2-3 months? I'll probably start off in Tokyo.

  • the usual amount advised is around $3000-$5000 depending on how long it takes you to find work and find a place to live. It's best to stay in a gaijin house first until you build up enough cash to afford your own apartment.

  • i had a honeymoon period of about 1 week before the society got to me! god what a naff place sometimes

  • Nope so I'm afraid I can't give you any advice on that subject if you decide to come here and pursue this hobby of yours. I suggest instead you seek counseling.

  • LOL!!!!!!

  • oh yea.. forgot to mention.. im in Year 9 in Australia.

  • omg.. your just like me.. for about 6 years i had a huge internest in Ancient Rome, Greece and the Middle Ages. i was always really knowelagble on everything Ancient lol.

But then i was introduced to Japan..

im now learning The language and i love the history and culutre. and now i want to do somthing around speaking Japanese when im older as a job.. before that i wanted to be an archiologist lol.

  • I like living in Japan, because I get more money...

    Am I wrong?

  • I don't care if you like living here because you get more money. If that's what makes you happy, who am I to condemn?

  • HAHA!! thank you!!

    I live japan!

    SAMURAI IS VERY cool!!

but ninja is most vrey cool!!

    please enjou japan!

    taka here!

  • mitsuhide and hanzo hattori still rule >.>;

if not..ill go forget reality and play samurai warriors lol

  • OK I'm looking to go to Japan. My curent plan is come set for a week and see how long I can make it. I would like to know. How hard is it for "gaijin" to get jobs there. I have heard teaching enghish is a huge market there. And work in anime studios is abundant too.

But really how much should I have saved ahead of time would be nice to know. and maybe what to really expect.

    Domo Arigato.

  • oh okay2x

  • wow is your japanese good? what do they call their language? liponggo?

  • There's good/bad things in Japan and as well as any other place, i guess.

  • that's the sensible attitude but here in Japan for some reason you get these extreme opposites of the spectrum quite often. Either it's someone who hates everything about Japan and constantly whines about it like that fellow in Hokkaido or they love it to such a degree that they pounce on any whiff of criticism of their chosen land of milk-n-honey. Can't stand either of them.

  • The reason this dick "Likes" Japan is because he can get away with shit here he wouldn't even dare attempt to do in the states. Watch his Halloween train videos and see what I mean. Don't buy the crap this charlatan feeds you, just another english teacher on a paid vacation.

  • oh, what an obsessive little sock puppet you are! LOL!

Given your appalling ability to construct coherent arguments that aren't a loose string of rambling rants, I can safely assume that the RD in your name are the initials of your first and middle names being "Really" and "Dumb" which preceding the japanese word for "idiot" shows that your parents named you well I must say, before they abandoned you in that gutter.

  • Wonderful vid.

  • That's history. Mature up and get an education, please. That's totally off topic to what this guy was talking about.

  • that has absolutely nothing to do with anything here.

  • Seems we share a fairly signicant and unforgettable experience in common. Coming to Japan dirt poor and remaining poor for our beginning period. For me that lasted about 7 months. OUCH. I am still filled with awe when I open my wallet and find actual ichi man en notes. I find myself wondering if I picked up someone elses wallet by mistake. eheh not really but I picked up a strong appreciation for having enough to buy what I need.I read your webpage account of your poor period, very entertaining.

  • tell me about it! I'm just glad I can afford to drink real beer now instead of the hoppo-shu swill I drank for nearly a year.

  • You're dealing with japanese people almost everyday, and you can't speak japanese at all??Isn't it hard?? I have stayed nearly 3 years in Japan living like a mute cuz I couldn't speak Japanese at all... I also work 5 to 6 days a week, I was using it as an excuse somehow to not learn the language I think.. we got international TV, Internet, people to speak our own language. that really turns us into lazy people, I think..

  • I didn't say I was completely ignorant of the language only bad at it. Given that I teach English 5 days a week, my chance to use Japanese is limited. We are not suppose to use it in class. However I study quite a bit of the history and culture which has netted me far more compliments than those who can talk about the weather and order a beer in Japanese. Many gaijin can speak Japanese to varying degrees but not all of them know much abouyt Japan itself.

  • I see! Im not saying that u r ignorant or anything like that.

Anyway, I saw that you had been to Iga-Ueno, I went there last winter. I bought a non-sharped katana after waching the shows.

    Do you live near by?

  • No, I live in Tokyo. I was on a week-long trip in the Kansai area last May and decided to swing by Iga-Ueno.

  • wow, you've been everywhere! i'm slowly working my way through your vids....very entertaining! 5 stars

  • Keep in mind, most of the earlier stuff before Nov 2006 are just short clips from the video function on my digital photo camera. I didn't have the software or know-how to edit them.

I got my first proper vidcam in October 2006 for my UK trip and since then I've tried to actually edit my videos and make them into stories.

  • I have only been to the Gion festival once, that was the summer of 1995, I plan to go this year. Love your favorite things, so similar to mine, well except the women thing. It is really a fun place to live.

  • I went twice in 2006 and 2007. In 2006 I left before I saw all the floats because it was pouring! I got tired of getting drenched. Last summer it was cloudy but no rain thank goodness! I think I have a brief vid clip of rainy Gion 2006 buried in my back pages.

  • Too bad it was rainy. I think it was rainy or had just stopped raining when I went. It is held right at the tail end of Tsuyu, so I guess it is kind of hit or miss.

  • I'm going to try and put a vid and blog together on Gion sometime in the near future. I have so much footage and photos of so many events that I haven't had the time!

  • Great! Kyoto is just such a beautiful place, so full of history. I love it! Looking forward to seeing you video.

  • Thanks! It'll be a bit as I'm currently putting together vids on my short winter trips in Tohoku and Nagano.

  • I remember Gion 2007 I had a private student on that Sunday night in Cafe Veloce on Karasuma Doori. It was soo crowded. He said that he didn't like Gion. If you're single though, Gion is the place to be.

  • cool i likey
