  • I really like that wig :D damn it is awesome :P

  • Not just because it rhymed spookboy0 but because he really was a kid when Marilyn died (15 yrs old)

  • que cancion con que sentimiento asi tenia que ser la gente

  • this was performed live at the Sydney Opera House, absolutely great acoustics.... the song in 1997 was Goodbye England's Rose, with revamped lyrics for Di's tribute

  • heard this songs for monroe?

  • It is indeed. Norma Jean was Marilyn Monroe's real name.

  • Yea it was originally writen for Monroe. But Elton John sang it at Princess Di's funereal as a tribute.

  • cheers

  • i was just a kid...teen...what did he say?

  • "I would have liked to known you,

    But I was just a KID;

Your candle burned out long before

    Your legend ever DID."

"Kid," because it rhymes with "did."

  • at 1:38 he was like WTF?

  • wouldve like to love ye but i was just a kid..........your candle burned out long before, youre legend ever did

  • i dont know if your stupid or what but this song came out in the 70s

  • what does when the song came out have to do whether or not im stupid, i simply said princess di deserved a song all her own, not a remake of one for marilyn

  • this song was for Marilyn Monroe and after Princess Diana died. Elton make a remake version of this song for Princess Diana

  • He used to scare me with that wig!

  • okay... well.. actually.. he ORIGANALY wrote this song for monroe. Then after princess diana died, he re-did it to preform at her funeral.

  • ITS PRINCE ERIC, DUMBASS!

  • Would you guys relax you're all right. It was originally written for Marilyn Monroe but Elton John rewrote it for Princess Diana after she died. This is the Monroe version because the Princess Diana version starts out with "Goodbye England's rose"

  • it was for Monroe!!

  • your all wrong about whow he wrote it for he did it for princess diana

  • Sir Elton John sang this for Marilyn Monroe and the effect she had on him watching her on the big screen.

I went to the Hotel Del where they filmed Some Like It Hot and they had photo's on the walls to remember her by.

This song is to remind us of one of the most wonderful actresses and her passing.

At least we have her movies to remind us of this wonderful actress and her star is like the ones in the heavens ageless.

  • whats with the wig?

  • you lived YOUR life like a candle in the wind!

  • hiiiiiiiiiiii

  • This was for MARYLYN MONROE.... I wish I was able to speak to her....

  • I love you Ben

  • amazing.

  • The way some men sing to and about women just does something to me, regardless of how gay they might be! lol This is the perfect homage to all the women who might have lived or be living their lives like candles in the wind!

  • Bernie Taupin did a great job on this song

  • great song...great interpretation.....my favorite

  • my shit

  • I love this song so much I want it played at my funeral, that and "Starry Starry Night" by Josh Groban.

  • starry starry night is originally from don mclean.

  • I would hate to think that Billboard Chart positions are the main criteria for determining the worth of an artist. There are too many random, and often crass reasons why songs become "hits." To me, it comes down to performance, catalog, and are they still doing work that is worthy of anything else they've done.

  • billboard charts means nothing most the time, the quality and the valor of an artist is more than a chart, a chart is just about money and how many times that song is on air on the radio

  • I loved MM and PD they where both beautiful ppl

  • hahahaha you owned rarzi11a, silenced

  • I Love This Song.. No Plan why xDDD

  • Simply Amazing!

  • He did a much better job with this song at Diana's funeral. Gave his all. That was one of his very best live performance I've ever heardþ

  • i totally agree, its fantastic at the funeral

  • The most beautiful version of this song!! This was a great album (Live in Australia).

  • Only Elton could wear that get up and still be taken seriously!!!

  • almost all singers and groups continue where they left off after being inducted, get educated

  • Calmati, patti chiari e amicizia lunga.Grazie per l'informazione, non sapevo che questa fosse la prima versione dedicata a Merylin.Ribadisco la mia non stima per Lady D.

  • ang bilatibaya nga wirdo nga tawo...gin guba ya ang kanta....letse...tayog ngid syaya...ahay...kalu-oy man...namigado gid guru...

  • lol at 1:40 EJ is like "wtf" for a second as everyone starts cheering for a seemingly unnecessary reason.

  • love the song thanks 4 the post genna

  • 9-9-1999,h 1,45 pm :dedicated to my friends Vinod, Pradip, Jail, Anja victims, like princess Diana, of the hate.

Protect us in our battle from heaven, till the day we will be togheter again.

  • This Song Came Out When I Was Born In 1997 I Luv It x

  • actually the version of this song for Lady Diana came out in 1997

this song has been around since 1973.

  • GRANDE CANZONE PER UNA GRANDE DONNA

  • Sometimes I wonder how great music like this evolve to something so different like what we hear nowadays.

  • tv likes a pretty face way more than talent my friend. music with content and soul doesnt count for anything unless it sells units.. elton sold units .. he wouldnt make it if he was coming up now though-he'd be writing jingles for a living. sad state of affairs we're in nowadays

  • this version came in 1987, after elton had gone thru throat surgery, and was told he probably wouldn't sing again

  • Doesn't he look kile Lord Beckett from "Pirates of the Caribbean"? :))

  • brilliant performance by Sir Elton!

  • This is such a powerful song. I tend to like this version of the song alot better than the original version. Its very emotional when listening to this.

    R.I.P Norma Jean Baker (1926 - 1962)

  • This is the original version...

  • Yes, this is the live and more popular than the original version. I already know that.

  • I knew someone who once spent five days with Marilyn Monroe, and he told me that "Candle In the Wind" was a wonderful description of Marilyn Monroe. In fact, he is in the video standing by her side. His name was Charles Duck..

  • The BEST version! This song is about Norman Jean Baker aka Marylin Monroe, NOT Pricess Diana, this is way before she died.

  • he wrote his song in the late 70s before diana was arond

  • It was the third song the yellow brick road album circa 1973

  • I'm pretty sure that wig is supposed to be in imitation of Mozart :D. Great song either way

  • No! it was written for Norma Jean. Before this guy got a hold of it... Elton didn't know, Diana that long ago...

  • this song was about Marilyn Monroe

  • he's wearing the wig because he's the only one that can pull it off. And he's just cool like that.

  • This is THE best version of this song!!!

  • Beautiful song.

  • haha his head :)

  • what in gods name does he have on his head..like I know what it is but Why in tarnations does he have it on his head

  • THe song can be for any one that was loved and lost to soon. It should be a way to remember those lost to young and for no reason.

  • now suddenly everybody loves MJ, you gotta remember ppl when they are alive nt when they die... please let poor michael rets in peace already.

  • i 100% agree!! i loved him since i was a little kid, given i was teased SO bad, i didnt care. i agree with u because he needs to be left alone for once in his life. he has earnt it! i love u michael xox R.I.P

  • Agreed!

  • Micheal Jackson was an icon but he was born a man, this song 4 a woman

  • i guess 2 ppl understood what you said, but i have no idea wtf you just said lol

  • My Mother is 50 YEars Old old enough for princess diana and grew up roller skating to micheal jackson ill be there and this song and any other song played by Elton John should be at his funeral

  • definately for Michael Jackson

R.I.P i love you so much....i hope heaven is all you've dreamed and more! :') Michael is watching down on us, i know it, i hope he knows how much the world loves him.

    i do. xoxox

  • R I P mine friend MJ !

  • This reminds me of Micheal Jackson

  • THIS IS FOR MJ!!!!...and marilyn...and diana...and

  • ADVERTS IN THE BEGINING OF THE MOVIE!? I HOPE THIS ISNT A TREND,

fucking people and their ads, their is a fucking point that people will stand, and then stand no longer, no wonder so many people free fucking download everything.

  • i thought it was tacky of elton to dedicate this to diana after it already belonged to marilyn. bet marilyn would be irked too.

  • This is the best version ever made, I love the rolling of the piano

  • "Despite his sad homosexuality, Reginald Dwight still created the perfect song???"

Sooooooo..... The choice in who you love has an effect over how poignant your art can be? Well, thank god that I'm straight so I can make art that's worth a damn. I gotta get me some fly crounch real quick so I can write a song that has meaning. Lord knows I wouldn't be able to otherwise (unless I was Reginald Dwight that is.)

What's going on with your grammar, by the way? That's two things going against you now.

  • Def. the best version.

  • The best version never heard

  • it's amazing how he was able to find a new style of singing his low range is actually awesome then his higher falsetto range which i know he obviously can't do anymore cause his voice is too deep now since he needed vocal surgery

  • After decades, Elton John can still out sing/ outperform/ out piano play any artist today! Such soul and passion!

  • what about josh groben he can sing real good but not sure if he can play piano

  • I think Josh Groben is a great singer, but he's not the outrageous performer that Elton John is and has been for decades.

  • to write this on piano and play it so perfectly and sing it is simply amazing to guitar player.

  • this was the best vocal arrangment of any other live version i cant really understand what hes saying but everything about this song touches me and im 24

  • Goodbye norma jean

Though I never knew you at all

You had the grace to hold yourself

    While those around you crawled

They crawled out of the woodwork

And they whispered into your brain

They set you on the treadmill

And they made you change your name

  • thats good if you were younger it would be illegal

  • The best version never heard....

  • why this costume??

  • think its a tribute to Liberace

  • Grand très grand Elton John.

  • he goes sick at the end i think its awsome when he dose it ;)

  • This was December 14, 1986, just a few weeks before his throat surgery.

  • Wasn't this 1974?

  • no 1986

  • Well the song itself was 1973 or 1974, but yeah, this video was 1986 or at least in the 1980s.

  • 1986
