  • 5 haters had BSOD on theie old Windows.

  • :)

  • Hw was this recording used in win 3.x?

  • RIP Bill Gates. Cancer finally got the best of him :(

  • @Nutmegowns1 i'm pretty sure that's steve jobs

  • @Nutmegowns1 Not sure if trolling, or just stupid.

  • @Nutmegowns1 Bill Gates isn't dead. What have you been listening to?

  • Yeah, now I gotta listen to this song about 50 times to get the nostalgia out of my system.

speaking of "nostalgia" and "system" my 62-pin connector for SNES came in the mail today!

  • HOLY CRAP. HAHAHAHHAHAHA.... ah damn. I remember this. That's all. Awesome.

  • really long time no hear this music....

  • I remember this song in a golf game..... right?

  • sounds like a cheesy '80s tv series theme tune.

  • @evilkillerpenguin lol, Agreed :)

  • Why The Hell Do They Hide Songs Anyway?

  • How did you discover this file? I remember, in 1994, I just stumbled upon it while looking through the windows directory for something (don't remember what I was looking for). It was such a cool thing to discover on my old Tandy Sensation.

  • rip steve jobs

  • @SuperPhg This is not even apple NOOB!

  • @huskieplayer stil is is a computer

  • @SuperPhg Steve Jobs is Apple...........But I do agree with you about his passing.

  • Damn this brings back memories.

  • @LaurelVentura NERD

  • And now the news. That was the news.

  • this is from windows 3.1 or the other less than 4 versions.

  • I will be honest its not my favourite!

  • Yes I remember listening to this on my $1200 486 with win 3.1 and the sb 16 and thinkin' Yeah This is top of the line BABY! I was quite pissed when the lightning fried it!

  • good ol memories

  • I know it was in it was in Windows 3.1 to Windows 2000

  • Classic MIDI! *nostalgia*

It sounds dead with the MSGS synth, though, thanks to MSFT shenanigans. I may upload a video of an SC-8850 playing it via the SC-55 map, where it sounds a lot better IMO.

  • lol snoopy

  • Hahahaha, I re-rendered this MIDI on my Kurzweil PC3x. Sounds totally badass. I always wanted to play this live.

  • if a computer was real life, we'd all be using windows 98.

  • Sounds like Transport Tycoon Deluxe!

    At least for me... :D

  • W-wait, I know this tune... why? WHY DO I KNOW THIS TUNE?! WHY DID I HEAR IT BEFORE?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

  • FINALLY, the third song from Chip's Challenge! I knew it existed! I love this song and have been searching for it forever!!

  • @IAmClearlyTheBest Chip's Challenge!

  • One more thing that is great about the 90s!

  • It's a re-arrangement of the Doogie Howser theme

  • I had no idea that widows was into easter eggs

  • ah... this song brings back memories of when I was 15 and I first discovered pedophiles on the internet... Good times Chrishanson73... good times....

  • i played this at family bbqs on the outdoor speakers

  • why do microsoft hide awesome epic songs in this folder?

  • This would sound awesome as my ringtone.

  • (1:25) is when you KNOW this song is fucking hardcore.

    BTW, I'm 13 and i like this!!!

  • FUCKING MEMORIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now I know I'm not the only one who was reminded of TV news when hearing this. The intro sounds somewhat like the teletype effect common in news themes.

  • I remember this playing in Chip's Challenge on my Windows 3.1 computer, hmm...

  • This song was originally composed by Jazz Compser, Performer, Band Leader, and Educator George Stone. I was lucky enough (albeit unworthy) to have played in his very first jazz combo Syncopation in Jr, & Sr. High. His 2011 Big Band Release "The Real Deal" shows how his talents have continued to grow and excel. George never got credit or compensation for this song from Microsoft, although he was paid a fee by the original publishing company for it. Rock On, George. - B. Merich

  • Hey! Be sure to credit George Stone in the description, he's the man who wrote this. He wrote a comment recently on a remixed version of this MIDI where he stated it was one of the first times he'd been given credit for it, in about 20 years.

  • I used to listen to this while playing Solitaire and surfing the internet. For some reason, this song always made me think of Street Fighter.

  • This needs more views.

  • This is the song Bill Gates plays when he gets out of bed in the morning

  • This was composed by George Stone, primarily a jazz composer, who didn't get credit until years later. He was a mac user and didn't notice for years. He ended up not caring, but still a fun fact ^_^

  • @BeBattey

A MIDI composed on a mac licensed for use in a Microsoft product?

    lolwut?

  • Wow, this takes me back. Windows 3.1 with TabWorks. :D

  • is it just who finds this a cell phone ring? :\

  • This is the memory of installing and playing with my first sound card. Back when sound and music required an expansion card.

  • @tohopes my computer still runs a seperate soundcard. its a sound blaster, but it can play audio cd's as well. i like to listen to alot of pat benatar while playing minesweeper, or using encarta.

  • @jimmychungas hey, now, they're still making new versions of minesweeper! in Windows 7 they put [ Exit ] where [ New Game ] used to be... now i keep exiting when what i want is to play again! so frustrating!!

  • Comment removed

  • I remember first hearing this in Windows 3.1 on our Soundblaster 1.5... Good times.

  • @topsyandpip56 lol me 2 same card(lol no i use dosbox with sb 1.5 compatibility)

  • Onestop's grandfather.

  • I always thought this sounded very much like Mannheim Steamroller's later stuff - things that came after, oh, the first four Fresh Aire releases.

  • This is what a Christian version of DOOM would sound like.

  • @SharkWADs I know you're joking but I actually did that. Converted canyon.mid into a MUS file for DOOM and spliced it into a couple maps with DoomEd. I think I remember taking the Windows "ding" sound and changing it so that would be the door open/close sound. Why? Why not, and it's not like we had a huge amount of WAV files to work with back when most of this stuff had to be downloaded over BBS or early web, and it just wasn't easy to find.

  • sounds almost like the alf theme in midi

  • God yes.

  • hows possible i can find midi files on my windows 7 media forler from windows 3.1????? Lol i had no idea

  • my file of this i can't play for some reason, i am using xp and winamp to play it i found it in my large amount of files i don't need but may as well keep

  • "He's a straight laced no nonsense weatherman. She's an outgoing field reporter with a knack for finding the big story....and trouble! Can the two find love in the nightly news room?"

  • this was on the pac guy games

  • @SuperWario094 That's what I think whenever I hear this song, too.

  • omg! i remember this!!!

  • welcome to chink's challenge

  • sounds like the ending credits of a 90's game.

  • wasnt this on the windows 95 and 3.1?

  • I LOVE .MIDS

  • its not hard to convert to wav with modtracker and to mp3 with audacity and Lame Codec.

  • I cannot believe I found this on here... this is bringing back nostalgia like you would not believe! Sitting in front of our old Win 95 PC, playing with the instruments for each channel, making it all squarewave... man I had a blast as a kid <3

  • If the news was a sitcom, this would be the theme tune.

  • @alexvegas yep, and scott baio would've been involved. i can already see the opening scene... its like murphy brown... only that this one would be more of a comedy.

  • @alexvegas LOLOL

  • @alexvegas Good to see original comments instead of the typical

  • This was the first song I would try to listen to when trying to get a sound card working. Thanks for posting this!

  • THAT is music! Lovin' the 90's (and 80's too)

  • I remember this, it was hidden in the Windows directory or something... it's quite good.

  • I feel like I'm 10 again. This is amazing :D

  • Wait. I have a ringtone that is part of that.

  • Ooooh....Tuneful!

  • Lol what a terrible comment.

  • Oh man, this really brings back memories. I loved playing Chip's Challenge as a kid, and in fact, I got it again last year..........only to have my computer die maybe 5-6 months later.

Ah well, it's probably still out there.

    Thanks, tylerdjm ;-).

  • buen tema (cool theme)

    the chucho25 ¡que recuerdos!

  • One time I played a Doom map that used this for music o_O

  • Great memories. I remember listening to this song at school on the school computers back in high school. Very nostalgic.

  • @randomforum

    Chip's Challenge

  • love it! Though it sounded kinda cooler on my OPL4-Soundcard. This one here seems to be recorded with neither OPL nor AWE. Still great , thanx, tylerdjm!

  • Man I loved this song. Along with the other one that I can't remember. I gotta get me windows 98 again.

  • Could it have been passport.mid?

  • Yes it was.

I just so happen to also remembered it. :)

  • @tylerdjm ya passport was another one on there

  • @TKGB2006 OH man I love the other one you can't remember too! That one was by far the best.

  • @Radica1Faith I just remembered it. It was passport.

  • @TKGB2006

    Could it be onestop.mid?

  • @hideyyo Never heard of that one so that would be no.

  • @TKGB2006 - Is it maybe "Clouds.mid"? That was another good one. ;)

  • @TKGB2006 cloud.mid?

  • Oh. My. God. I CAN'T TAKE THE NOSTALGIA.

  • this is no canyon... this is kick ass jazz party music!!!! Lol they symboized the wrong thing

  • this needs to be charted for GH or RB

  • Ah, back in the day.

  • windows 98 lol... i never thought i would hear this again, there were a couple more original songs and then a bunch of classical music lol

  • Aún recuerdo mi primera tarjeta de sonido ESS compatible con Sound Blaster. Escuchar canyon.mid a través de los altavoces era escuchar la gloria =D

  • Did these songs have a purpose within the OS anyway, or were they just like sample midis? I never did find one.

  • go to C than WINDOWS then Media

  • No, I know where it is =P

I meant I never found a purpose for it.

  • such a peaceful MIDI sequence.

Its too bad assholes take this for granted in favor of highly sexual music! Besies, hip hop doesn't even qualify to the same musical standards!
