I raised a child from age 3-18. He had a lot of problems and I refused all the meds the doctors and schools wanted him on. I had my own history with drugs and was determined to raise a drug free child. Counseling was helpful but it actually helpful in making me a better parent. What a child from this back ground needs more than anything is a ton of individual attention. The child needs to be the most important person to at least one adult. My adopted son is a great 21 year old man now.

Same thing hapopened to my husband's sister. She was taken and put in foster care when she was 14 because she kept running away to be with her bf. In foster care the foster parents would make her tak eprecription pills that were not her and they would have men come over and rape her. She had her nose and jaw broken and my husbands parents faught and faughter for 4 years until she turned 18 and was let go.

You're a very strong women for being able to speak so candidly about your experiences. I was also placed in a therapeutic home from age 16 to 18 and prescribed seroquil. I was prescribed seroquil for sleep and did not know it was an anti-psychotic. They upped my dose 3 times while I was there. I was 1 of few who took only 2 different medications.. I still have a lot of difficulty sleeping. I admire your will to overcome your challenges and advocate for those suffering now in similar situations.

Hi, I was in 7 different foster homes but never did they offer me drugs, instead the Ohio system, offered counseling and group therapy's or one on one counseling which all were very good.

The President of the United States and the Suregeon Generals office has been put on notice about our children being druged. Many die and noone is held liable. this is the third video i have watched, where the kids have gotten addicted to the prescribed drugs, and then switched to an illegal drug to subsitute that need for it. How in the hell could a child, a small body handle 200mg of seriquel? I take 50mg and it knocks me out in 20 minutes, and I'm a full grown adult. I wake up with a med hangover every morning.

I *HATE* seroquel. I was on it for 7 or 8 years. They first put me on it in foster care. I don't think it should be given to ANYONE under the age of 18. I finally took myself off of it at 22.

Actually, the more I listened to your video, the more you sound like me. I always fell asleep in the bathrooms at school because they gave me seroquel in the morning...and I also didn't realize it was anti-psychotic until I was older. I was told it was for sleep too.

i was in care for 5 years and i agree, i witnessed so many pills everyone was on and for what? maybe if the focus was more on what our problems were in the first place pills would not be needed. i was on ritalin,prozac and imovane. it was to the point where i was pretending to take them. i didnt need them. pills don not fix problems, its closure we needed...talking to the ones who created our problems, like our parents/relatives..whoever was abusive ...pills are stupid!

I thought this may be misunderstood. You are the angels, in reality, and something deep and meaningful comes out of you. I was brought up in a state where happiness was a strange feeling: half-foster and with one on-off but struggling parent, and living in more places with more people than I can recall. They didn't hand out drugs like candy then, by-the-way, so that was an advantage.

OMG! This is almost my story exactly! I was put on so many meds as a kid in foster care. They made me take birth control when I wasn't even sexually active. I was on adult doses of adult medications for depression...it wasn't a chemical imbalance that depressed me, it life in foster care! I was put on hyperactivity meds as a kid because I was "hyper" but really I was just an active kid with no way to release my energy. I did independent living at 16 until I aged out on my 18th birthday.
