  • At 0:16, the guy on the right changes the way he's holding his sword to his off side. Why does he do this?? It limits the attacks he can perform, and all of them are going to come from the same place, making them predictable and easy to parry.

Sure, I'm no ARMA pro, but this doesn't seem like a smart move to me at all.

  • The guard he's using is called "First Ward" in M.S. I.33 and, obviously, is the first ward taught. One of it's advantages is that it can make attack towards the opponents right side which are slightly harder to defend against and are also useful for counterstrikes. In my own experience I can also make stronger cuts from my left side when using an arming sword. One can lift the sword up through third ward into a high guard (2nd or 4th ward) and down from the right in a strong Zornhau like cut.

  • Very good spar. I like the one with the dagger, technic and fast. The one with the buckler has no easy way to go. Goof for his prudence, but just keep the buckler forward IMHO,manciolino style, and do not push it introducing you sword attack,

but better move it WHILE you attack as to cover your hand. Just the advise I have if you might had to ask what i think about.

    regards

  • Respect, man. You surely have abilities!

  • Just to make things clear I am not in this video. This is a video from ARMA's official website of Jake Norwood and Aaron Pynenberg sparring at Iron Door Studios in Dallas Georgia. I thank you for the complement but I must admit that I am nowhere near as skilled as these guys. Although someday I hope to be. ;-)

  • MS. I.33

  • Very nice. Can you reccomend any good literature covering arming sword&buckler techniques?
