There is an anti-trust law that shields insurance companies from outside competition. So, I can't legally order drugs from Canada, or buy a policy from a foreign entity like I could a car. Ironically, this law was championed by, and is currently being protected by REPUBLICANS.

@lambinate I personally agree that the market will do a better job than the government in providing quality individual care, but there are still a lot of reforms that could be done to both lower costs and reduce government involvement. At the same time, however, i think that the government has a responsibility to cover anyone who the health insurance companies won't. This is not as black and white an issue as everyone thinks.
