  • $350 minus $117.= $233. minus shipping... average cost to fix it is $150-$200 .

If you think you can get lucky changing those parts would save you and be sure it will work... that was not a smart moved? those lamps has mercury and exposure would cause health hazzard? If you think all your trouble is worth $200, Many tried it and failed losing hundreds of dollars.... besides parts warranty covers only if it was installed by qualified service personnel.

  • sounds like you color wheel is broken.

Its an easy fix. tons of videos on here about it.

  • sounds like you color wheel is broken.

  • This happened to my TV last night and it had a loud popping sound followed by flickering black and white picture and the grinding sound.

  • I opened up my tv and finally got to the color wheel...yep, it exploded. About 1/3 of it was laying in fine pieces in the bottom of the wheel. I purchased a replacement wheel from for $117 and got the thing up and going again without any problems. A local repair shop wouldn't sell me just the wheel and wanted $350 to fix it. Just follow the videos on youtube and its a piece of cake!

  • I think my DLP had the same issue. It ended up being the color wheel. In my case -after the failed startup the three lights on the DLP just flashed. The way you describe it -it sounds like the color wheel shattered -and now can't get up to the speed that allows the lamp to turn on. You can check out my video and blog post to see if it helps.

  • The sound of it shutting off and cycling is the tv doing that on its own.
