  • He's so wild! Grrr I love that!

  • My dad had the same shirt!

  • pffff juste excelllentttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • cool shirt he is wearin

  • Thumbs up if the sound was too loud when the video started and you have been scared!

  • OK, give Jools a bit more credit - he's a well-respected songwriter/musician that also happens to have one of the best and longest running television programs featuring musical performances, some of which are absolutely breathtakingly good (check out Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, etc.).

  • Jules Holland is a creep from squeeze.

Stewart Copeland is a legend who started the police...

  • Ok, from my understanding Jools is very popular over in Britain, but he seems like an absolute nerd, no offense lol. To be more on topic, love Stewart's drumming and he's easily one of my favorite.

  • he sounds

    like david beckam, ahahahahaha

  • hes like a mutha fuckin joey jordison

  • Joey Jordison? Joey is a beginner and Stewart is an advanced player so no comparison!!

  • @paistekid well joey is going to become almost as great as him in my opinion

  • I love Stewart. He's one of the most skilled and vibrant dudes in music.

  • a cool motherfucker .

  • I had no idea Stewart Copeland was sampling in the 80s.

  • Man Jools Holland sounds odd!

  • jools holland's a cock

  • I'm a drummer myself and I'm amazed at how hard he's hitting the drums. I mean, all the time. Could that be part of why he sounds so amazingly sturdy and tight? Think I should try this out. I have a habbit of not hitting that hard really.

  • What an intelligent man. He has truly created a style of his own

  • this man, Ringo Starr, Roger Taylor and Keith Moon are my favorite drummers =D

    STEWART I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

  • @chibiqueenie I also love Phil Collins's early drumming. As well as Bill Bruford's drumming :) But all of those you mention as well :)

  • his billy cobham impersonation at 5:17 is hilarious

  • Goddamn he's sexy!!!!

  • The reason I got into the drums....a cool dude to say the very least, super intelligent also, back then he was way ahed of his time man, the drummers drummer.

  • he's ahead of his time today.

  • best drummer ever!

  • 4:50 4:54 good drum beats

  • "It's a paradigm for the cosMOSS."

This is fucking hilarious! Every nuance.

  • excellent video thanks :)

  • i masturbated watching this, them i came right at the 0.45 nice

  • 4:09 . Long legs? holy shit? or does he randomly have a shoe on his drums? i dont know...

  • his legs are long as hell and his shoe is like a damn boat

  • This was great. Learned so much

  • after all the times ive watched this i finally understand completely!!!! its so clear its like i got hit with a large piece of glass!!

hmmm maybe thats not the best analogy...

  • Sheer badass. All i can say.

  • def

  • the best drumer ever!

  • In time 1:33 to 1:43: The Copeland signature's

  • I too think the interview is quite good, actually. In this exchange Stewart shares how he himself experiences the drums. I just wish it had lasted longer!

  • I think you are all wrong for criticising Jool's interviewing technique. He is asking questions that Joe-Public would ask - as someone uninformed with drums and their origin would be. I'm sure he, he himself, knows the answers to all the questions he is asking Stewart but he is helping US understand better.

  • watch his face at 5:17 hahahaha

  • Why is he a cunt?

  • You would never know by this footage that Jools is a musician. He seems annoyed and really jerky, not to mention completely confused. WTF?

  • Well, he's probably all of 20 years old, and probably was still finding his feet as an interviewer. Who of us wasn't kind of a jerk at that age?

  • This is Summer 1981, during recording of "Ghost In The Machine", so old Jools was 23.....

    Drumming as Philosophy....Who Knew?!

    ...Sheer Genius.

  • This guy's a fuckin genius...long live COPELAND......

  • Ahhhh Copeland <3

He was the one that thought of the name "The Police"

I love when he talks about the back beats when playing Reggae!

And Holland is an English Dumby.

    "What are THOSE???"

    There WOODEN BLOCKS YOU IDIOT

  • He has to ask dumb questions for the viewers.

  • Copeland is one of the most unique drummer's I've ever heard...his style is sooo melodic...he not only keeps a beat...but he adds another dimension to every song...he's irrepaceable...and his style is a huge part to the police sound...brilliant...!

  • My fucking hero.....

    uh.. Stewart that is....

  • i love stewart!

  • hahahaha jool is a fucking weirdo ahahhah omg hes SOOOOO awkward!!

  • ahhahahahahah!! love it

  • copeland is a God, but Holland is a cunt.

  • this man is fucking brilliant

  • Copeland is a cut above slimy holland in every conceivable manner.

  • Bit lame that he says the drums are easy. I understand it's him being humble (Copeland is a brilliant mix of HUGE ego and HUGE humility) but the drums aren't easy. If you want to play crap like Meg White, okay maybe. But Copeland's skill level is very high and it's a pity people still make fun of drummers - drummers are the backbone of almost every song you love.

  • Each to their own. I think drums are incredibly hard to play but perhaps he just finds them easy. just because you find them hard to play doesn't mean everyone else does. The guitar i find is easy but others don't you know?

  • that true i play the drums, and when i first started i didn't find them thast easy, Stewart is just gifted with music that way so he finds it easy.

  • LISTEN to what he says. He says:

Drums are eayER than guitar, bass or s.e. for HIM

    ;)

  • @brainiacgames Re: Meg White: She might play what you call crap but I bet she is capable of a lot more than what you've heard.

  • LA MEJOR BATERIA, LEJOSSS... CON TODOS LOS CHICHES!!!

    ---

The best drum kit, they've a lot of things to play...

  • Holland seems like such a flake. I mean, COME ON, you're hanging with STEWART COPELAND! Show a sense of humor! At least LOOK interested...

  • very fucking cool...!!!

  • Paradigm for the Cosmos

we need more of them :)

  • Thank you for posting this! Stewart is cool as fuck!

  • Cool as fuck ! And such brilliant drummer. The man is a legend.

  • I agree that it looks very uncomfortable the way he has his drums set up. He's very tall and lanky so I guess that helps but it still looks weird. Hey, he's awesome so whatever works.

  • Awesome that someone ripped this. This is part of a very funny and informative interview series with the Police done in Montserrat. You can find the whole thing on the "Every Breath You Take" DVD.

  • That looks like a really uncomfortable way of playing the drums. The snare is waaay over to the left.

But Stewert looks hella cool when he plays drums. Haha

  • the snare is between his legs like most drummers. the drums on his left are 2 rack toms with effects.

  • Thank God you posted this sumbitch! We need much more of this type of stuff on YouTube. Hats off!

  • Most of people doesn´t know Stewart, and what is your real importance & influence in rock-jazz-reggae music, with a new, powerfull and amazing drummer style. Thanks Stu.......

  • stewar you are the most amazing drummer of the rock n roll historyy and sting sukss yu are the real the police men thancks for you music

  • I have a conspiracy theory. I noticed a few years back as Sting was exiting the Oscars with his Wife and Son, that his Son looked more like Stew than Sting. The age of the boy, give or take a few months, coincides with the Police breakup. Hmmmmmmm?

  • Man, that would be so great if true.

  • This is awesome thank you so much for this. I'm a drummer and have loved Stewart since I was a kid. What a cool and informative interview. So relaxed and candid. He's just hanging out and bullshiting about drumming and music. He's so young here he looks like a high school kid. Must be around 1980.

  • This was during the recording of "Ghost in the Machine", so it was 1981 which made Stewart about 29. Jools Holland was 23.

  • wonderfully informative.. i love his honesty about his art... no bull shit 'ere,

where can i get more of this stuff?

  • so cool

  • Amazing! I want to see the rest of Monserrat '81 now - anyone have it?

  • Well, Stewart invented The Police, so without him there wouldn't be "The Police."

  • OMG!

  • Stewart Copeland - Master of Drums!

And of course the REAL founder of The Police!

  • yes,you allright stewart is soul the police

  • this is so rad. i've always been fascinated by drumming since i started listening to tool. Yogiraj's son (the voice behind "India's Contribution" video) is also a musical/rhythmic genius - i've never seen anyone hold 4 different rhythm time codes with 4 different limbs at the same time..

  • Jules Holland is so small

  • He's right about drummers having to put down a track in a few takes and getting it right(hopefully). It sucks recording something and knowing it wasn't quite perfect and everybody says...ah it's fine it's just the drums.

  • The Police would have been nothing without this man! -P- x

  • He's a powerful ball of energy! What would The Police be without Stewart.... I don't want to know!

  • This is funny,he says they got it wrong...somehow

but actually they got it right.
