Kurt Cobain plays grunge rock music and can't be compared with Tommy who is the master of blues guitar playing. However, there are 2 best guitar players who were able to play every type of music and who are untouchable and that are Jason Becker and Shawn Lane. They are burst of emotions and soulful playing which can't be described..there is no enough words..

guys, at 56 seconds... what does he do... prety funky but what the hell is it__?

He hits some harmonics (looks about the fifth fret) and then bends the neck of the guitar to give it some variation/feeling. He does the body bend for 2 reasons. 1) It a crowd pleaser, as you just proved :P and 2) because the bridge of his guitar is fixed because it's a Telecaster.
