Usually takes about a lap to build up decent heat in the tires... This is the start. The video starts with the car in the hot pits, with cold engine, cold tires, cold me, ... This isn't a race - it's an open track event.
It's a Tex Racing T101a. It's a manual transmission with a clutch - designed to shift with out using the clutch. The gears are straight cut and the transmission uses a dog-ring mechanism for gear selection. Very similar to a Jerico.
Looks good man. I should have my coupe out there with you guys pretty soon. Pretty sure you know my dad Tony and I have seen your car quite a bit. I just did a 3 link in my coupe as well, interested to see your design.
I've not seen the valves float (thankfully), but per my calculations, they should not float until just before 10k... It's a matter of correct spring choice, and equally important, the valve acceleration (ramp profiles) and valve train geometry. It is a solid roller lifter.
Thank you for your comment! I won't be at Birmingham. There are some stills of the car on a web page, for which a link is provided in the sidebar. Once you get to the page, click "ON Track" which will take you to a few pictures!
When I read you had fitted a 3 link rear end I thought of the RRS 3 link. I've just purchased one for my 67 vert. Have you looked at the RRS coilover suspension for the front? Seems to me it was designed for pretty much your application.
Thanks for the comment! I have seen the RRS stuff. I'm not quite sure why they call their rear torque arm a 3-link? Maybe they call the very short link between the tq arm and the frame a 3rd link? Semantics aside, it looks to be a huge improvement over the leaf springs.
I have seen the front system too. Again probably a nice improvement over stock.
I really enjoy understanding and making the design choices for myself. The front susp. will use a coil over shock and A arms rather than a strut.
Well I hope to find out just how much better the rrs 3 link is soon. Unfortunately rrs are seriously slow with delivery. So I am still waiting for the shocks to complete my setup.
In the last 12 months there has been an explosion of all sorts of different coilover upgrades for the front suspension in these cars. Which is best I really don't know.
Good luck with designing your own. Hope you provide some details when its done further down the track.
Actually... all three bottles (where the dash used to be)are clear, one is full of "clear" clutch hyd. fluid, the other two are only half full of ATE Blue brake fluid. One reservoir for the front brakes, one for the rear.
Thunder hill track?

Love the whine of straight cut gears

Wish more people would add the rear view cam when they past and just kept it in the direction of the nearest racer..

Very, very impressive, you can tell watching the vid what a huge effect the rear setup has had on the car.
I don't think a stock mustang would have handled many of those corners.
I winced every time you came to the sharp left corner over crest BTW. Exactly the sort of corner I would no doubt forget about until I was on it.
highlands 2 years ago
A stock Mustang could take those corners. It mainly just depends on the driver, since no power steering.

Its crazy watching the fluid in those break resevoirs go up and down when you apply your breaks... Nice Car!

What is your engine setup? I take it you stayed with a solid lifter setup?
locosway 2 years ago
I just read your site, so no need to comment on the engine setup. However, are you not seeing valve float at 9k rpm?

... and the motor is completely done making power just before 9k...
jsr512 2 years ago
... and the stumbling of audio in the video is just the camera having trouble with the amplitude and or forces....
