  • How many rock bands nowadays an write a song with these types of lyrics and thos level of musicianship.

  • @lgadwords straight up, man.

  • Rush peaked with Power Windows. Nothing but powerful and thought-provoking songs that are timeless.

  • Man, when I heard first heard Territories on Power Windows, I thought it sounded waaaay too drenched in syhths and just way too reverb-y. But live, it just really explodes. I think Alex covering the keyboard parts via guitar make it sound way better live.

  • Wow, I haven't seen this for some time, and they are on fire here!!! From 2:30ish on they just kill it.

  • Territories must be such a hard song to play live! My only quam with ASOH

Why didn't they include lock and key on the video and dvd not just the laser disc?

  • @canyousmellicansmell They might have only had the master to the VHS version, with the laserdisc master probably either forgotten about or gone entirely...

  • Camera angles on Neil above all...

  • I think we all have to agree that camera angles have indeed gotten better over the tours :p

  • This song is tied for the "Best Song that Rush ever performed" with.......

all the other songs that Rush performed....FANTASTICO!!

    live long and prosper

    cygnus

  • @SuperDizzy12 You have a lot to learn about Rush. First of all. They are that awesome, you capitalize that shit. The rest shall be later explained.

  • YYZ sounds so weird when geddy plays it with the Wal bass, only the intro

  • Only two buttons needed for Rush songs-Like and Love

  • Underrated Lee bass line. Underrated album as well. Soo many gems on this, often overshadowed by the public favorites.

  • out of the frying pan into the frozen crab cake

  • Two kinds of people in the world..people who love Rush.....and people who should!!!!!

  • Mystic Rhythms and Territories should be part of the soundtrack of Aliens 2.

  • Every time I walk through Pearson Airport this song is playing in my head.

  • "Territories" is one of my all time favorites.

  • Why is there a dislike button in the first place?

  • I love how the more popular song in this video is YYZ and yet it seems almost all the comments are directed at territories. Means alot for considering its from my favorite album

  • Territories really comes alive on stage...

  • The late 80's and 90's Rush stuff are things that were hard for me to get used to.. but now? Now I have their whole studio discography on my MP3, and I listen to every single song! For those having the same trouble I had, I would recommend listening to Lock and Key, Mission, Tai Shan, Open Secrets, Territories, Emotion Detector and Mystic Rhythms. Those are the songs that did it for me.

  • Tracklist

    [1] 0:01 Territories

    [2] 6:21 YYZ

  • @loonman555, i know. territories is a good song, but people don't listen to cuz of it's name. i forgot to skip forward to YYZ, and territories ended up being on my ipod

  • I came here to watch YYZ and ended up enjoying Territories more

  • hahahaha,,,,sick,,,,imnot a big rush fan,,,but they are the most talented band of all time,,,,,unreal

  • it took a while for this song to grow on me but this whole album is full of unknown gems like this one, Grand Designs, and Middletown Dreams

  • @ieetemos4breakfast Ya I was the same..now really the only song on Power Windows that I am not crazy about about is grand designs...but that isn't saying much. If it was on the radio, it would still take precedence over pretty much anything else(except maybe another Rush song)

  • @ieetemos4breakfast Power Windows was and is still one of Rush's best collective pieces of work in a period where they were expanding their sound to include more keys and synths to their sound, which made them even better. i have been listening to bands since the mid sixties, and NO band compares to Rush's musicianship and live performances, and that includes bands like Floyd, Zepellin and the Who.

  • @ieetemos4breakfast And a lot of people dont like Big Money,Emotion Detector,or Mystic Rhythms,I love this album but dont really like Grace under Pressure, neither do a lot of people in my town...took a while for this album to grow on me but I love it now, people should do the same as well as for Test for echo...

  • i love both songs, and i like the weapon too.

  • Supreme version of YYZ here, plus I love the Asian style of playing Alex does at the beginning part of Territories

  • HAY UN SACO DE WEA QUE NO LE GUSTA.....

  • I'd love to see someone who will tab it...

  • Rush! Come to Moncton!

  • wonderful music

  • Jeepers!!!

  • They make other bands look so feeble.

  • Justin Bieber didnt like it ..... o well I guess we should have guessed that the Beiber would have not liked it ..... Leave it to Bieber

  • @michellephoto1 Leave it to some little KID douchebag that thinks he is funny and creative just by mentioning JB's name. You are an unfunny piece of shit. How dare you mention that name here!

  • I saw an interview where Alex said he didnt much like this era because he resented having to "work around the keyboards".I on the other hand think it was some of his best work.

  • @FoulOwl - i can see why in a way, could be the record company wanting them to sound a bit more commercial and or electronic for at that time it was popular, certainly a different sound.but nonetheless

  • Who posted a "dislike?" Let me buy you a beer and explain some shit to you.

  • @primemover17

    well said that man..

  • @primemover17 Excellent comment!

  • @primemover17

EXCATLY WELL PUT PRIME,RUSH HAS THE MOST BRILLIANT KNOWLEDGE LYRICS BY PEART ABOUT THE WORLD WE LIVE IN AND TO PUT JUST A TRIO TO MUSIC WITH IT IS FUCKING OUTSTANDING!!! I WILL BUY THE DISLIKE DUDE THE BEER.PUT IN ON MY TAB!!

  • @primemover17

I posted a "like." The beer still sounds pretty good though!

  • so good you gotta listen twice

  • They're dressed like they're attending a Bar Mitzvah in the Bahamas

  • one person tried to play this with a four string bass and got pissed...

  • @mujari ... geddy is playing this with a four string.... oh well

  • @belial1237 ha i mean the low low notes on the keyboard. you need a five string to do it

  • Geddy Lee's Swagger behind the bass is unmatched

  • @wolfpacguy he is just one extremely talented musician, enuff said!!!!!!

  • Whats the effect of guitar?

  • 21yrs later and they play it with more intensity than then...Slower, harder and just loud!!

  • @mr3n10 I saw the Time machine tour and they play song's at regular speed but it's true that a couple years ago they played Subdivision much slower but this year the song was played at the regular speed!

  • Geddy: "Hey" thumping beat, alex playing around, this song(territories) rocks and I'm liking it more and more.

  • I can understand Where's My Thing losing to Cliffs of Dover, Johnson did a terrific job on that.

But how could someone pick Behind My Camel over this?

Someday I'm gonna find the people who vote on these things =\

  • RUSH BRAZILIAN FANS THANX!!

  • Rush at their peak! And Geddys BEST bass tone by 1000000miles!

  • The thing about Alex, Geddy, and Neil is that they have always come across as good guys. Not to mention that they rock harder now than ever before!

  • when RUSH come trough my senses..

all my memories and felling dance agitated in my soul "

    its being 20 years ..

rush is the sountrack of my life "

  • there needs to be a remix of this. it's damn near house music anyways, so it shouldn't be hard.

    #@!

  • how the FUCK does geddy pluck that fast?? haha

  • @BassDude50000 hes been doing it for years he def mastered the bass

  • @BassDude50000 Actually, he's not plucking per se. It's all in his technique and attack...and he attacks hard.

  • Anyone who says Power Windows or Grace Under Pressure sucks are just idiots.

  • @vessel199 Agreed I have both on Record I love them !

  • Man I love this song. Mixalydian mode is just an incredible major sound. Especially with the way Alex plays it with the synth behind him. So great. Man, I wish they had played Middletown Dreams on the recording of this DVD. Man would I love them to play that on the Time Machine and/or the tour supporting their new album when it is released.

  • @mRtReMeLo If you're going to be that pedantic, at least be able to spell what you're talking about. D:

  • for me rush is the pinnacle of musical genius..

  • Has there ever been a better sounding 3 man band? You could argue The Police and they were good, but they can't jam like this. Geddy Lee is insane with the bass guitar!

  • @vboy808 The band Sound Tribe Sector 9 has some amazing live moments... The bassist and drummer lock in like nothing else. pretty intense, check em out.

  • @vboy808 of course they are in NO WAY a 3 man band :) just saying in terms of bass jammingness :)

  • Geddy's hair looks like a coonskin hat

  • Geddy's walk backwards at 1:30 and then immediate backtrack to the mic makes me laugh. He's adorable.

  • Cei la vie! Ja, why in the world, why can't we see ze end?

    Crack the whip!

  • why can't today's bands be this badass?

  • Territories is followed by an Anthem of sort for Canada with YYZ. Funny stuff, never noticed that. Sorta like Nobody's hero followed by CTTH

  • i love the wal bass

  • Huhn, I never knew the singer was also the bassist. Incredible talent.

  • @SuperDizzy12 Geddy is one of the most talented musicians i have known or seen, along with Steve Winwood, Jack Bruce, and Sting

  • Alex is the F 'n arpeggio master!!

  • same 3 chords played 333 different ways in 32 measures....BRILLIANT!!!

  • ged just walks all over the strings like a sunday morning stroll

  • Power Windows

  • I also agree with filmguy006. Geddy is well renown for his bass work. Bass Hall of Fame - Guitar Player Magazine 6 time winner: "Best Rock Bass" - Guitar Player Magazine 1993 - "Best Rock Bass Player" Bass Player readers' poll Best Album for Bass (Snakes & Arrows) - Bass Player Magazine "Coolest Bass Line In A Song" (for "Malignant Narcissism") - Bass Player Magazine

    That's some serious recognition!!!!!

  • I agree with thegr8HarV. There are some incredible songs during that period not to mention showing Rush's versatility and ability to play multiple instruments without adding any band members.

Prime Mover- Manhattan Project- Marathon- Red Sector'A'- Mystic Rhythms- Between the Wheels etc. Some of these are in my top 5 favorite Rush songs (and it's not easy picking 5!!!) lol I especially like this live recording because it has heavy drum and bass punch while Alex cuts through clean and clear.

  • gary weinrib's bass is amazing

  • @scrambles12 dude just call him geddy. he legally changed his name to geddy anyway

  • this is a pretty sweet video mainly cuz rush if fuckin awesome but also these songs aren't on the album version. Everyone is so quick to put down the synth period of Rush (Grace under pressure-Hold your Fire) but its still pretty awesome. not as complex but really calming and mistifying

  • divine music! i feel how power fills my body...

  • Lifeson in his Duran Duran phase...!

  • is geddy lee's voice naturaly that high?

  • yes

  • I'd forgotten all about Territories. I love this version. Blows the studio one out of the water. (:

  • @proudlyrushian Agree. This live version is even better than the studio one! Fucking amazing.

  • the bass line is killer!!

  • geddy is so under appreciated for his bass skills its not even funny

  • no dude, he is appreciated. He's got about every major award and acclaim for his playing - every major mag, every major place.

  • woah did not know that. Learn somethin new everyday

  • this song is fuckin great

  • They are all freaking unbelievable, but geddy is just from another dimension.

  • i saw them 5 times in chicago, best band ever!!!!

  • just geddy? fuck... THEY ALL ARE

  • love the bass line in territories Geddy did some great playing on the power windows album

  • i used to watch this on a big screen 60 inches projection when i was in college late 80's. hooked the projection to a fisher stereo on VHS. total joke compared to todays tech.

  • i was gonna buy this dvd but i put it back i wish i bought when i was going to

  • If you can, get the 'Replay X3' pack of the 3 concerts. Exit Stage Left and Show of Hands are both worth it, and Grace Under Pressure is an interesting watch from time to time.

  • what a tone... Wal basses: For The Win.

  • there is a guy by the name cableguy273 who is 39 years old and likes to call 12 year old boys on youtube cocksuckers im 34 and ready to beat the shit out of this guy so any info help me out because my son is 11 yrs old and i wouldnt want

any one talking to my son that way go on his channel if u dont believe me a 12 yr old kid named alec he is fuckin with

  • That is one HUGE bass. Hoe the fuck does geddy play that bass!!! The neck has to be at least 3 feet long XD

  • cause Geddy is God!! LOL!

  • The Ultimate Rock Band

  • Progtastic!

  • @darcsaster there never has and never will be a better progressive rock power trio, Rush is as good as it gets, muscially and lyrically, and no other band i have ever heard sounds as good live as in the studio as Rush, their songs are always played at same pace as when they were first recorded, thanks to Neil's perfect sense of timing

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Pink Floyd are especially good live, but I agree with all u say about Rush being incredible.

  • release it on blu ray!

  • i dont think they can because its too old and not a high enough quality

  • Amazing dvd

  • Simply unreal on their instruments, amazing!

  • melhor show do final dos anos 80 ainda nao tive a chançe de pegar esse material em video dvd mais tenho o cd original e uma porrada sonora do começo ao fim recomendo

  • they make playing bass drums n guitar look easy but when u try it like takes a while

  • Power Windows is GREAT! You can keep your Moving Pictures.

  • I like Territories but I never care for yyz

  • Thank god Lifeson uses Les Paul Guitars now instead of that bullshit Signature guitar.

  • Signature guitars were outstanding instruments for their day.Lifeson was integral in this guitar's overall design. And BTW as a rule Lifeson uses Paul Reed Smith guitars.RARELY Les Pauls. If he does pull out a Gibson it's usually a 355.

  • Well actually on Snakes and Arrows he uses nothing but les pauls.

  • For the 2007 Snakes & Arrows Tour, Lifeson replaced his PRS Guitars with Gibson Les Pauls. In a 2007 interview for Guitarist magazine, Lifeson states "I hear PRS on everything these days and I wanted a little bit of a change ... I love them [PRS] but they have a smaller sound than the bigger heavier Gibsons ... I just wanted to be more traditional."[

  • yeah you're right.I'd forgotten that he had made a shift on the last album.I just had the prior 18 or so years previous stuck in my head.I still stand by the claim the Signatures were some badass axes in the day.

  • Actually come to think of it,I'm just stoked to see how many people are watching Rush vids.I get two replies inside of 12hrs.

  • I'm interested to know what you don't like about that Signature. I know guitars sound different unplugged, but is it the sound on the video and on the albums that you don't like with the Signature? I really believe that the main cause of the sound is the digital effects, and hardly the guitar. I think if he had a Les Paul plugged in on this video it would sound very close to the same sound as the Sig... I actually love the sound & the Signature more so than any others (except the ES-355!).

  • I couldn't agree more.Alex doesn't strike me as the type to use a sub-standard instrument.Maybe one day I'll run across one of these at a yard sale.Just last month I found a short scale Gibson acoustic '60's era for $15.And a 1939 Bach Strad mod 101 Cornet for $10.

  • I have a Signature guitar! They are FANTASTIC. It does everything I could ever want and I use it to do everything!

  • Excellent. And what model Signiture is it? I own an Aurora (similar to Alex's here, however mine has a curved top). I also own an Oracle (bolt on, red, flat top). They are wonderful instruments indeed! Play one of these and you'll never go back to a lame, boring, regular everyday ordinary Fender Stratocaster.

  • (reg log in, still me) It's an Odyssey. Blue curved top, bolt on. I have found no other that sounds like it. I does everything!!! I would like to get another one, but alas, no one wants to give them up, and with good reason.

  • Dude,no shit,if you ever get hard up and have to part with it hit me up "foulowl.68@gmail"

  • Is it me or were those Tamas the best sounding kit to date? What the hell does he do with all these drums after each tour? Maybe I can get a snare or something Mr Peart? XD

  • /yeah I just gave Territories a second chance. I didn't realize how amazing it sounded. Whether Alex realized it, he's using that Mixalydian mode for that sweet lick in the intro. I love it! They use it more than I originally noticed. Gag-lly! Amazing performance. They need to take some of these tunes outta the vault... *cough* *cough* Hemispheres *cough*.

  • I haven't heard Territories in years, I'd forgotten what an intense song this is.

  • Comment removed

  • lol what is alex doing at 8:31?

  • Just Alex being Alex with his goofy antics. However you look at it, Rush is the epitome of rock - bar none!

  • YYZ is my fav Rush song.. dunno why.

  • Territorries is such an underrated RUSH song. definitley one of my favorite song s from them! And what??!!! and another tour and album??? cant wait!!!

  • Hahah, Geddy at 3:00. Amazing band. I can't wait for their next album/tour (which I hear is likely).

  • Snakes and arrows live? it is a great album indeed.

  • ive bought 12 rush dvds and albums combined

  • Neil's cranky, hunched look got him all the chicks in the 80s

  • Well, how would you look if you had to focus on hitting 30 things correctly (and in time) for 3 hours

He smiles alot off stage :)

  • why the fuck does that matter? they don't care...theyre all about playing their music....not scorin chicks like alot of other

    80s bands.

  • all of them are married...

  • i'm not gay, but neil is damn sexy.

    haha

  • a whole wide world, an endless universe

yet we keep looking through the eyeglass in reverse

  • I love the guitar at the beginning and main riff of Territories

  • yeah i agree, i thought it was pretty unique myself. i thought i was the only one in the world that liked this song! rock on dude

  • Amazing musicians. It's not just Geddy and Neil who are multi-tasking but even Alex plays the bass pedals simultaneously with his guitar. I take a bow to all of them. It's very inspirational to watch them live on stage, just playing their instruments and just enjoying themselves!

  • awesome!

  • Just discovered this song. What a great tune, and lyrically as deep as Rush usually produces. Getting my Rush Tattoo this week, Yea! For the jazz enthusiasts out there, both Burning For Buddy CD's are excellent. What I would like to see someday is a Neil Peart Big Band show. Jazz is a lost art form, and rhythymically sophistocated. This generation needs to rediscover

  • just because you just found jazz doesn't mean it was lost - welcome to the tribe, brother. 8-)

  • Rush is always amazing live!!!

  • Territories is better here than the studio version IMO

  • Neil played bongos on the buddy rich tribute and cymbals first album last cut, picking up the pieces. With Kenny Arnoff. And the filled in on rehosatics (sp) whale music.

  • all the drums besides the simmons the timbale and the "open 6'" was the only open one he had on his hold your fire kit besides the gong bass drum of course.

  • To the folks below who where debating about who's a better guitarist.Eddie VH or Alex. Its like comparing apples to oranges. Both are incredibly talented. But TOTALY different styles.I will say this though,if one had to stand-in for another in a pinch. I think Alex could pull it off fairly well.If Eddie stood in front of Geddy and Neil,I think he'd pretty much get lost and bow out gracefully. Not to knock EVH,but that's just how complex some of these arrangements are.

  • You're so right, Eddie is great and has a legendary sound, but Alex is much more technically sound and versatile. His chops are legendary.

  • If there's one Rush song that should get a remix, it's this one. It's damn close to a house music
