Well the comments are going round in circles! Supermarkets open sell things cheaper to pull in the customers till the comp dies then put up the prices. They also buy land and dont build on it to stop rival developments (land bank) Supermarkets resposibilities lie with share holders not customers supermarkets helped kill off the music/film shops and they will soon be the only shops, the government don't care as some of them are share holders, an ex Asda CSO is a Conservative MP for example

It's not supermarkets that turn your high streets into ghost towns it's you. People are choosing to shop at Tesco instead of the butchers because it's better in every way. What is this obsession with the remnants of the past. Specialized shops are not good enough for the majority of people and if they can't attract the customers then it's no-ones fault but there own.

People have freedom of choice and they are freely choosing to shop at Tescos, they aren't being tricked or brainwashed, they are making a conscious decision. The amount saved at Tesco is nothing compared to the quality loss, I used to shop there fairly regularly and I've noticed an improvement in my eating habits since I stopped.
