  • 5:41 LoL

  • do they have their own amps?

  • thats one lame way to get in the record books

  • I found my kiddo, Shae, at 6:00, hee hee, cute!

  • my guitar teacher was there.

  • haha that's me at 3:12.

  • @Kloiterra u must be proud lol

  • Proud to say I was one of those Guitar players. I miss you 99.7 ky

  • at one point you can see me

  • Sadly, I think the only reason this sounds so smooth is because they were unplugged and all you can hear is the actual band playing. I'm not even sure all of them could really play the song, hopefully they made some kind of selection or casting to make sure they all did. Still, kinda disappointed, I was wishing to actually hear all the guitars. Not saying they'd play bad or anything, but if they were plugged it wouldn't be smooth for the simple fact sound gets delayed for players in the back.

  • I was there, my son played with them, it was cool.

  • alot of fakers between them tho

  • Fucking AmaZING

  • You are not guitarist if you dont know to play Smoke On The Wather !!!

    :)

  • the Smoke On the Water day! that's pretty cool and it was a great tribute to this amazing riff and song!

  • 3:00: skip's all the borin stuff

  • The reason Smoke is chosen is because it's so distinctive; there's no other riff like it, and it's easy enough for a beginner to play, hence - lots of people can get together to play it.

Note how it takes amusical genius to come up with something that's so simple yet no-one ever thought of before?

BTW- did the Guiness record book people check that all these people could actually play it? It's not just the main riff that has to be played y'know.

  • 7:33 min, dimebag darrell!!! xD

  • GEIL

  • Ok this video has restored my faith in humanity! And put a huge smile on my face. Thanks for posting it!

  • awsome

    ǝldɹnd dǝǝp

  • 4:44 looks like slash from GNR

  • epic! :D

  • deep purple must be proud

  • Too bad a city in Canada beat that record.

  • no we beat the city in canada they made that record in 1994 this was 2007 we beat it buy about 400 but 6,000 in poland beat both of us :(

  • paranoid!!!!! or seek and destroy!!!

  • Raining Blood with that many people... Talk About A Mosh!

  • Wow i wish i were there. I'd like to see 1683 people play eruption at th same time

  • when i see all this people, playing smoke on the water and thinking 'wow, this is awesome',

    i feel ashamed

  • 16830 fingers playing!

    time for Godzilla!

  • are you dumb you dont play with your second thumb or is it first thumb i dunno still not 168300000000 fingers

  • Ok

    Maybe I am dumb.

  • maybe:D

  • -_-

  • now now we don't know if anyone of them are missing a finger

  • Haha, I'll agree to that lol.

  • Look @ point 6:06.

There is a guy rocking out on a ukulele!!!

  • Wasn't the beginning of 'Smoke on the Water' done with a keyboard though?

  • uh no?

  • Nope.

  • Actually, it was both guitar and keyboard playing the part.

Jon Lord doubles the guitar part on a Hammond B3 organ played through a distorted Marshall amp, creating a tone very similar to that of the guitar. Blackmore uses two fingers to pluck so the pairs of notes can be played exactly simultaneously, to match the organ's timing more closely.

So in essence, its a guitar and keyboard riff, being played simultaneously.

  • now rekord is for Los Angeles, but tomorrow wil returns to Wrocław :D

  • yah cause if the guitars were conected that wouldbe huge..

  • thank goodness they didnt film in the back lolz

  • cool

  • imagine how many cables x.x

  • actually there werent that many

  • jaja awesome

  • cool :)

  • im proud to say that i live in kc and that was wasome

  • ha! nice idea in theory... it amazes me how many of the players have to look down at the guitar while playing this... its such a simple riff! 1,600+ players and probably not one of them got it right.

  • meh come on they needed a bunch of guitarists, not good guitarists, in that case they couldve played something harder

  • bad organisation and bad record...

need amps for all those electric guitar fuck off!

  • santas guitar was orgasmic!!!!! haha

  • HOLY CRAP

  • I think its kinda risky carrying a guitar on ur back when you know the only thing thats carring it is the strap. my friend did that once, and his Ibanez was no more.....

  • if u combine a leather strap and some strap locks your guitar wil be just fine thats what i did my guitar never fall of my back again

  • THAT'S AWESOME!!

  • Dang that guy's guitar is out of tune, the one in the white shirt

  • you coulda discribed the guitar almost every one is in white

  • Ohh, of course I´ll describe the guitar, I´m the one with the guitar, wearing white, with the guitar strap, and standing up.

  • Just get a pignose amp. I have one and it runds on AA batteries

  • bththththththththth

  • allah!!!

  • I don't know why some people are saying they didn't break the world record. You can see it at the Guinness site I believe for largest ensemble and certificates were issued from Guinness. Who is going to beat it so we can get it back? Next time time I'm not going to be shy and play and won't be wearing a speedo and an Am. flag cape or Slash gear or horns or any of that silly stuff. You guys are hilarious though!!!

  • You had to bring your own small battery amp. I like this video the best from the others, btw, because I spotted my daughter in it. She was 8 at the time. I'm sorry now I didn't play. Even I can play THAT song! It was a lot of fun but had to be rushed out for a ballgame. Some people hung out in the parking lot and jammed. People were honking their car horns to the riff of SOTW.

  • muitos aí não estão tocando porra nenhuma

    ahuahaa

  • SORRY, BUT YOU DIDN'T MANAGE TO BRAKE THE RECORD.

IT WAS SET FOR 1881 GUITARS JUST A MONTH EARLIER, IN POLAND.

However, even if you don't believe, this year it was about 2000 guitarists playing hey joe.

  • qba - has Voltar been portained?

  • nope you're right, we didn't "BRAKE" the world record, we just broke the world record. There's a difference. Get your English straight or don't speak it at all.

  • To get it clear, autoreboot: This year (2009) it was over 6K guitarist at the same time, 'Hey Joe' again. Yeah, maybe I need to improve my English, but still you are pathetic

  • This is one of those things where you say to yourself, Why the hell didn't I think of that!? That must've been so much fun to play. I wonder how many were playing the bass riff in there.

  • ITS OUR GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO ROCK !!!

  • ROCK ON DUDES !!! IM LIKE SO IMPRESSED !!! \m/

  • the person at 5:27 looks excactly like my sisters boyfriend, and he plays guitar, especially this kind of music.

  • I find that funny cause thats a girl haha

  • it is! omg! i couldnt even tell, and she looks exactly like my sisters boyfriend!

  • same here, 6:30 looks just like my sisters boyfriend

  • its like a giant "rock orchestra" with so many people!

  • so many guitars <3<3<3

    i wish i could be there!:D

  • if thay have that many guitarists thay should have an amp 100x100 and a speaker 1000x1000

  • was that a ukulale at 6:04?

  • wow, it was!

  • this is the 3rd video i have seen of this

  • HAHAHAHAHA 6:04

    LOOK AT HIS GUITAR

  • whats the point with having a acostic one there

  • fuck any body who doesnt agree with me i know this is an awesome song and a all time classic but its to fucking easy

  • fuck you

    i donnt agree

and gues what NO ONE CARES ITS STILL COOL

  • Guitarhero3004: We all know its easy, and that is exactly why it was so popular and still is with almost every guitarist out there who has a passion for great rock and roll. What made Ac/Dc so popular. It was the very stripped down, simple guitar riffs and very easy drum riffs. And thats it. But there still an amazing band. And Smoke on the Water is an amazing song for exactly that, everyone can do it. Everyone can relate to playing it when they first started rockin' out with there first guitar.

  • to easy play something like one or raining blood

  • realy? xD

    think

do u think so much people could play raining blood or one? :D

  • yea i do think so all the metalhead guitarists

  • Many of them plays it wrong , even this song

  • if youre gonna put this song down for being too simple, dont pick a song like one or raining blood if youre into technical stuff, pick something that most people cant learn on guitar.

  • thats about how many people you'd need to do a live cover a cacophony song with all the over dubbed guitar tracks lol

  • lol my cousin was in that

  • lol 3:42 see the guy in the weird helmet

  • bunch of redneck all in one spot

  • Yeah, sounds great, but it's not a world record. The world record was broken in Poland. On 1st. May 2007 1876 peoplce in Wroclaw played Jimmi's Hendrix song: "Hey Joe"

  • that woman is hot

  • very nice vid but omghow many fat americans and mot of them kids omg :S

  • @nemeckaly hmmm mot........ alotand yea we know we as americasn that we are way to fat

  • @nemeckaly hmmm mot........ alot and yea we know we as americasn that we are way to fat

  • Hell yeah.

    I was there!

    Lots of fun.

And the little kids were so cute with their little guitars.

Once in a lifetime experience right there.

  • do they do this every year? or will they do it this year in 08 i would love to go to that

  • no they dont do it every year because the people whos idea it was got fired from a the radio station to be replaced with talk radio stations and now the people are sueing

  • led zep?anyone?

  • FUCK! They look so pretty. All of them playing the same :3

    COol indeed

  • that was sweet i was there to with 57 srtatocaster

  • Hell Yeah!! It was a blast I was there

  • did they all have amps or what? sounded like shit

  • Dude, you try get good sound quality from 1600 guitars.

  • Indeed-after all, most bands today have problems with -one- guitar.

  • They should have done Iron Man.

  • i wish i was there , here in mexico the average people doesn't like rock as i do, fuck them btw i hope somebody will do something like these event un the us

  • Very Nice!!

    WICKED

  • I was at this =) at 1:27 im in like the back left corner

I sure hope we sound as good as the people in KC. We are only allowed to have accoustic guitars tho..

    Love, Peace and Harmony

    BluzStringer

  • is there a vid up? its shit that its only acoustics but meh...

  • there was kid next ot me playing behind his back

  • yea right like you were there =p

  • i was man i played a black and wite electric i was on cnn

  • lol 5:40!

  • i just love this song!i think its very cool to play it like that:D

  • thats so cool! I love this song, I listen to is all the time, Im in the process of making a slide show to it

  • all of them were not really playing smoke on the water, at least not correct..

  • i was there and that was the official cords of smoke on the water i dont know about everyone else but a lot of people only knew how to play the riff i knew how to play the whole thing

  • Well, you obviously either watch your CNN, or read some Purple forums, because Ritchie just revealed that little secret for the first time, recently on CNN.

    (BEETHOVEN'S 5TH INVERTED, WOAH!)

  • you can do something like this only with smoke!!!

    thanks blackis

  • AWESOME!!!

  • I was there and it was amazing. Very sureal. It kicked ass and I would doit again. 1600+ guitarists and all the egos where left behind. I had a great time.

  • this was really fun

  • wat row were u in i was in first row

  • Haha, nice!!!

    Trombones suck ass!!!

  • ya that cute kid who sticks his tongue out first was me and the second was my cuz jackerlope

  • You can make that number 1684... Cause I just ripped it up with them!!! WoooooooHooooo

  • This would be SO much more interesting if it was 1683 TROMBONES

  • well...thats not what Marco Friggati of Guiness said...he said we will be in the 2009 edition. Go figure.

  • Congrats !!! But the best score in the World is 1881 guitars playing together "Hey Joe" and other songs... We set it 1st of May 2007 in Wroclaw Guitar City - Poland during the 5th Thanks Jimi Festival - you can find an amazin' documentary video on YouTube

  • I was there and it was an awesome event. Of all the Videos of it I've see on YouTube this is by far the best one. Thanks for posting it.

alipbob, about half the guitars were Acoustic. Of the Electric Guitars, most people had little battery powered, Belt Clip Amps. It sounded better than I expected it to.

  • How are the 1.6k guitars amplified?

  • they where not

  • I was there and of all the videos I have seen so far on this. This one is the best. Kudos to you. For all the Ney sayers out there who dont like the song....this wasn't about the song. It was about a world Record. At it was acheived! Enough said.

  • krazy! kool!

  • I actually participated in the the 1st one in 1995 at Hard Rock Orlando. It Sucked.. it was hot and all I got was a T'Shirt and a certificate from Guinness

  • Awesome!

  • yaya misty mountain hop @ the beggining

  • I hate smoke in the water since so long. Good song, but more and more is too much. What about smells like teen spirit ? :)

  • You crack me up LB, for one, Smells Like Team Sprit riff is nothing but a ripp off of the Stones 'Heartbreaker' know your riffs, and where they originate, SOTW is king of all riffs, and no other riff comes close to earning this as a record.

  • yes no maybe I don't know, ok ! Maybe that's why everybody knows SLTS but not heartbreaker :) Anyway, SOTW vs SLTS : both piss me off now.

  • I can accept that, but now I'm luaghing harder, cause you're right, both Purple and Nirvana were pioneers in their own right though.

  • indeed...purple in coolness and musical skill...

nirvana in gheyness, sucking at guitar, (for kurt)beeing such a big junkie that he couldnt even play live during the last few years.. and of course shotgun mouthwash

  • hahahahhahaa

  • SOTW is also a coverd riff of a classic song, Blackmore just turned the riff into a rock riff.

So that make's both of the riffs stolen :P .

  • Whew Hoo!! Love it, the Show me State has Shown !!!

Good job on the video-captured everyone doing their thang!

  • they showed me!
