@Mattiafederer Ok let me tell you something, if you update your iPhone/iPod to iOS 4 GM, that means replacing your current firmware with the new one. So the answer is yes, it will work flawlessly on your iPhone/iPod since it is (truthfully) the final release of iOS 4 beta. Actually the GM means the last beta version, however it is a perfect beta which can be published to public (which also means this firmware is 100% safe).

I got it at an officially authorized Best Buy. They had the Apple Retailer sticker and everything.

Apparently they left the 8 GB models out when they updated the internals.

@Supersoradude Oh then that's too bad. I believe you went to the right shop. Apple may have mistaken when they distribute the iPods. Most probably they shipped the 2G iPod (which is yours) altogether with the 3G.

OR maybe yours is not considered as iPod 3G since they have detected that it's the way older than 3G.

Anyways what's your complaint about your iPod? Is it just because it is 2G or anything else?

@achidada iOS 4 GM is not hacked. It is original, however it is candidate version of iOS 4. Yes you can download and install the official one when it comes out.

@Mattiafederer When did you buy your iPod/iPhone? The 2nd generation iPod is around 2008, and the 3rd generation iPod was on 2009. You have to know that since you have to download the correct firmware for your iPod/iPhone.

@t0mkennedy Then if the message says so, there must be something wrong with your ipsw. You may have accidentally downloaded a version for iPhone 3G or perhaps iPod version of ipsw. You should re-download the firmware and try it again. Just ask me (through message or comments) for further assistance on updating your iPhone.
