You fuckin' people that believe that Kurt and Co. started "grunge" are seriously out of your minds... The Seattle sound we know today started with Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone. Grunge was not a style of music as it was more of an attitude... If you listen to any of the seattle bands, none of them really sound like the other, they all had and individual sound. The only thing similar was the attitude and the city.

Actually, if you want to go ALL the way back, it was Malfunkshun...formed by none other than Andrew Wood...who later formed Mother Love Bone. Green River and The Melvins would be another couple of founding bands... In fact, look at the Deep Six compilation. Malfunkshun, Green River, The Melvins, Soundgarden, Skin Yard, & The U-Men really started it all... Not to mention, grunge came in forms of blues (Pearl Jam), metal (SG and AIC), and punk (The Melvins)

Although I will kind of agree...you're not entirely correct. Kurt's death brought about a landslide for the "grunge" you heard on the radio. However, here in Seattle, you still have the "Seattle sound". Grunge became a lifestyle, more than music. "Grunge" was comprised of many styles of many different bands... It was Mark Arm from Greenriver and Mudhoney who is credited with coining the term "Grunge". It's the only way he could describe the guitar sound
