nice to learn icelandic. there are some words that have the same sound and meaning of some brazilian native tribes .... weird ... but in the end we are all one ... jah bless
Great video's but I dont understand this - I thought "Good evening" was "Goðan kvöld" or "Góða kvlödið" (what is the difference for anyway? Is it male and female?)
@42LightYears - "good evening" is "Góða kvöldið" or "gott kvöld", kvöld is neuter, and good in icelandic is a word that takes on the gender of the sentence, basically.
like
he's good = hann er góður / góður bíll = good car
she's good = hún er góð / góð jörð = good land
it's good = það er gott / góða kvöldið, gott kvöld = good evening
I hope that helped you get some understanding of how the word is used :)

Mizenki17 would it be ok with u if u made another vid for slow learners like myself would be much appreciated and by the way ur videos are really good oh yeh can u say in the video Alv896 loves anna thanks :)
Gah! New ways of saying things! I always thought that: "How are you" was "Hvernig hefurðu það" and I am fine was: "Ég hef það fínt" Meh, well, I know even more Icelandic now. :L
Hvað segirðu is a something you would say but not write. You would write "hvað segir þú" but when you talk the stress on the Þ goes away and it becomes weaker. (I think you have noticed that ð is just a wimpy Þ).
"Hvað segir þú" becomes hvað segirðu when you say it out lout and and fast.
@egmigmervara Actually there is a grammatic rule that allowes the combination of 'segir' and 'þú' and putting it together into 'hvað segirðu', so it's not only spoken, but also written. Same goes for 'gerðiru', 'hefurðu' and 'heyrirðu'. The shortened version of THAT which is spoken is 'segiru' and 'heyriru' f.ex. ;)
Og ég býst svona við að þú sért íslensk/ur, en vildi bara hafa þetta á ensku svo útlendingar gætu lesið :)

Icelandic sounds hard, but very beautiful. Golly I wish I could speak it already.
Bless is cute, I'm going to say that instead of 'bye' now.

,hvað segiru´is more like ´whats up´ and ´how are you´ more like ,hvernig hefuru það´. fantastic work youre putting out there kudos:)

Takk fyrir! <3
Mizenki17 3 years ago
although "hvað segirðu gott" is also a very common way to say "how are you".
It's just that skipping the gott makes it less formal, like "what's up" as tbjarna said.
