Carlos previously worked at KNBC from 1995-2001, he did a radio show for a while, but like most people, he's on the beach. In other words, little is known about him now.
They had the best news music ever until they adopted generic NBC-themed news music earlier this year along with ridiculous new graphics. They didn't even get a new set. I hope we don't have to listen to the new music for 15 years.
KING used that set for a loooong time -- from 1990 to 1999. I believe it was retired because it looked too shabby for the new HD installation at the time. IIRC, in the very early days of the set, the center panels of the world map would be rotated inward to reveal a monitor during some live shots and satellite interviews.
The SkyKING helicopter still wears the same paint job seen in the intro... even though KING's logo has changed and the colors look very dated.
I remember when KOMO's Air4 wore the same paint scheme for about as long as SkyKING does now. before they got their Bell 407, they used to run a Bell 206 JetRanger that wore a Newstar4 Satellite-esque paintjob for almost two decades.
The Bell 407 could use new livery too... it's stuck in 1998 -- KOMO's image has changed twice since then. Neither KING nor KOMO really market their helicopter like KIRO has always done, however.
Just think, if Chopper 7's paint job was updated as infrequently as SkyKING, it would still have the very old (O)7 logo! (Broadcast House still has the red News Channel 7 emblem on the helipad, but no one sees that unless they're at the Space Needle.)
That reminds me... I've always wondered where KSTW's short-lived helicopter, SkyEye, ended up. I remember it even made it briefly into the UPN era as Sky 11 (or was it Air 11). While the other three had Gyrocams, they still had the photog hanging out the side door.
If you listen closely to Danny Dark's intro, you can tell they spliced him into the spot where Tony Ventrella used to be... the volume seems a bit lower and the delivery rushed. Carlos del Valle might have been OK, but he just didn't have Tony's personality.
Notice also that a young Paul Silvi is sitting in for del Valle that night.
Still my favorite KING 5 news open.

NBC's own voiceover Danny Dark voiced over the intro/outro back then.

Isn't Carlos De Valle now doing sports in Los Angeles?

I still say that they have the best news music opening and closing.

Really. Hopefully they'll go back to the original news opening that's been there for years.

I'd have to disagree. KOMO's theme that they used from 1992-1998 was the best news theme ever used. Same with their graphics.

Today: NBC Tower V2 by 615 Music
Graphics: Belo's Standard Graphics, by Giant Octopus.
hkfreak 4 years ago
@hkfreak Those graphics are only standard for Belo in the Northwest, I think - KTVK's HD relaunch in 2008 had a completely different look to it.

good stuff :) BTW Barry Judge was fired.

Judge seemed very wooden and just didn't fit the KING mold to me.
tkaye2 4 years ago
Really?! I didn't know Barry Judge got fired! When did that happen?!
srosenow98 4 years ago
I didn't know Carlos had a 'stache', He got rid of it when he joined KNBC in LA in 95, He was good then!

I would assume he's retired -- I'd bet he is in his late 60s now.

after he left KING for whatever reason, he went to KXLY in Spokane WA. He was there for a few years.
